In March of 2020 I brought Pippin home. I'd fallen in love with him watching videos posted by his foster (that woman is a saint!) and, despite being 3 hours away in another state, rescue ranch worked with me to bring the puppy into my life. I could go on and on about how much I love him, and how clever and charismatic he is, but I'm here to tell you about RR and how great they are.
When the pandemic shut down everything, they were still hard at work. They still made sure every dog in their care had what it needed and they reached out to me to schedule a house call to provide my pup with his final round of puppy shots because, even though he was my responsibility by then, they still wanted to ensure he was well cared for.
Even before I'd found my puppy they were wonderful to work with. Every single person was willing to play matchmaker to help me meet the dogs that meet my needs. Walking around the sanctuary is also clear how much the dogs love them too. They truly want what's best for every single dog.
I highly recommend them.
PLEASE support Rescue Ranch in any way you can! We adopted our sweet Malit there 4 years ago and have discovered what an amazing and unique rescue this is. They genuinely care about each dog. We regularly see their staff and volunteers at the veterinarian ensuring the rescues get all medical care needed. They offer free training/socialization opportunities at the facility with knowledgeable and approachable trainers. Unfortunately, between fires, abandoned dogs and such, Rescue Ranch has been needed more than ever.
The most incredible volunteers work with the dogs to help them become more adoptable, others volunteer at the thrift store to help towards funds for food, medical care, and the facility costs, additionally, foster families take in the some of the harder to place dogs. In summary, this is an incredible organization that can only continue to save dogs with the help and support of those willing to care about the dogs. Please take a look at the website, fall in love with the dogs, then do what you can to help them... maybe even take one home...
Originally we went to visit with a bulldog named Kia however she wasn’t a fan of our dogs we already have so we worked with Rick and met Sally, a pit/lab mix who was playful and interested in our dogs and immediately fell in love with our daughter. Her name is now Piglet and she is thriving with our family. Her favorite place is curled up on the couch with her girl, or being walked to the park to play with her girl. I would absolutely come back to Rescue Ranch in the future!
We’ve adopted two pups from Rescue Ranch over the years and we love them both so much! Rescue Ranch is such an amazing organization, I don’t know what our community would do without them. Thank you Rescue Ranch for all that you do!!
Adopted my beautiful boy Brom from here!
Such a caring and kind rescue. The love and care these dogs receive is genuine
I adopted Sassafras 3 years ago...
She had waited over 3 years for her forever home. Once adopted and returned she never gave up hope.
That was because the people at Rescue Ranch made her feel safe and loved...
For that I am forever thankful
Adopted my darling Samoa from this wonderful rescue over 2 years ago now. Always have a great experience whenever I was there, they really are doing it for the dogs.!!
I absolutely love this organization! We have adopted 2 dogs from them now and each time has been amazing! The staff is incredibly helpful and truly wants to find not only the best dog for the adopter but especially the best adopter for each dog! I love that they take the time to find each dog their perfect fit!
We saw Trooper while living in Ecuador. He stood out to us because he looked so much like our Copper who was also a Shepherd/Hound mix.
Seven years ago upon returning to Portland we again saw that Trooper was still at the rescue. After contacting Rescue Ranch we drove to Yreaka with our 2 other dogs to adopt Trooper on the day after Christmas. John was so very helpful.
Sadly Trooper crossed the Rainbow bridge last year due to lymphoma. We are so happy to have him have 6 years of nothing but love, to which we received nothing but true love and loyalty in return.
Thank you Rescue Ranch for giving Trooper and us the short time to bond together.

Was so helpful through the whole adoption process! Kept in touch after to help me keep my new pup healthy and calming my fears and being a great resource the whole way through. I couldn't sing their praises more. Wonderful smoothe experience with great support.
I worked with RRY for years as a transfer partner and they were nothing but wonderful to work with. Easy to talk to, willing to help with more difficult cases that others would shy away from. I even trusted them with animals I thought about keeping permanently, because I knew they would always ensure the best homes were found.
So 3 years ago this month I ended up with liver failure in the hospital now mind you this is my birthday month. I was in there for a whole month right before I left I kissed my dog and told her I'd see her when I got home. Well a month later I get home and she died on my birthday three days after I went in the hospital. It's taken me 3 years to finally be able to look for a new dog. I started looking about a year ago realizing it would take me a while to find the right one well I and my girl narrowed it down to two one of them was karma in Eureka California. The other one was diamond yreka at the rescue ranch. Well karma finally found a home before I could get there and that left diamond so as you can imagine I had already filed an application quite a while ago probably 6 months and haven't heard anything back finally after calling and leaving messages. I finally got someone to answer remember this is 6 months after I filed an application. Well the man that answered his name was Rick. And he asked me questions and you know so on and so forth and then said hey well we need to get a picture of your yard. I said no problem I'll send them to you right now send them to him within 10 minutes. I wait a day or so I get no call back I get nothing so I call and I call and I call and I finally get a hold of somebody a week and a half later. Now just like Rick told me the lady that answered said that diamond has had no applications. I remember this because it seemed kind of odd for this animal not to have any interest from anybody. The lady tells me I'll have Rick get back to you and another week goes by nothing I didn't call him everyday cuz this is ridiculous. I finally get back to her and she says I will call you tomorrow and let you know what my boss says I said okay thinking hey no no applications no interest I've got this in the bag. So she calls back the next day which is today and says no we can't adopt diamond out to you your fence isn't high enough. Now mind you my parents own the first vet clinic in Redding reading veterinary clinic my dad God rest his soul is Dr troop my mom is Linda McMahon. So I know quite a bit about animals and how to take care of them. Instead of saying diamond you know is an escape artist would you be able to make your fences taller no instead. It's you may have a half an acre yard with giant fences and locking gate we're not going to let you adopt her. Along with the last six people that put in applications and we told them no also because there fence isn't high enough. I said wait a minute you and Rick both told me that diamond hasn't had any interest nobody's put in applications for her she said that's incorrect I should then why did you tell me that she's a well they put them in but they we didn't adopt out to them because their fences were too small. I said let me get this straight this dog that's been at your rescue for over a year has had six people apply and you turn them all down and I'm the seventh. I said that makes no sense to me you better than that dog just sit there in that little cage for another year let me talk to you supervisor I am the supervisor right now. I said you just told me that you're higher-ups told you that I couldn't adopt diamond and you were giving it all you had to convince them. Now they are having so many problems they have so many dogs they can't even take care of all of them this is what she told me. They only have two volunteers and they don't even have enough people working there. But yet seven people in over a year supposedly they turn down. Now we really like you to look at I said you know my story on a very particular person about the dog I get because I know what I can handle and what I can't. Then you lie to me and tell me she's never been even looked at. She said well why don't you just go to some other no-kill shelter in your area if you think you're so good.. and that's when I realized they are no kill shelters.. and they get donations and they get funding from the government. Why would they not want to get rid of an animal. I mean not even try. I don't know you tell me. I think it's because they're breeding her. She's still up for adoption it's ridiculous
We adopted our dog from Rescue Ranch and we can’t recommend them enough. They have wonderful staff. They allowed us to bring our current dogs to play with our new potential dog in a nice gated area. Everything was very clean and organized. This shelter goes above and beyond for these animals and it shows! They are dedicated to these dogs even after they’re adopted.
We love the Rescue Ranch! They are kind, helpful, and dedicated. Our latest adoption was a Pitbull, Chihuahua cross named Po. His name is now Cudley, Studley, Dudley Do Right, which is very fitting for him. He was a wonderful addition to our home. Our previous rescue is named Bugsy, also an amazing dog. He is so happy we brought home Dudley. The play and cuddle all the time. If you are looking for a dog, definitely go to the Rescue Ranch. You will find LOVE!
Our little dude Maverick is such a love! We are so thankful for him! Rescue Ranch was so helpful, kind and took such great care of him before we got him, held on to him between adoption and pickup, and while they had him to get snipped he was taken care of so well.
We love that he has a story, started his life with rescue ranch - and that we get to love him!
Rescue ranch is a great organization, you can tell how much they love all of the dogs they take in. My partner and I went for the first time in April looking to adopt a dog, and all of the volunteers were very helpful and knew the dogs personality’s really well. We brought home Hope (now Queenie) and she is perfect for our family, we love her so much. I recommend them to anyone looking for a dog to join their family!
Rescue Ranch goes above and beyond for the animals they save, taking time and care to match each dog with the best owner. I donated to this cause before I got my dog and will continue to donate. The staff and volunteers make all the difference. So thankful for the Rescue Ranch!
We have adopted 2 of the sweetest girls from Rescue Ranch. The first was my Pug/Lab mix Josie Drew, who is 3.5 years old. Adopting Josie helped my heart heal after the very unexpected loss of my 11 year old Dachsund. Josie was a 9 week old destructive puppy when we brought her home, but we loved her in spite of the puppy destruction. When Josie was 2, we decided she probably needed a sibling to keep her company. We knew we didn't want another puppy (we couldnt afford to buy another living room set!). Enter Midnight, the Momma of the 7 M&M girl pups. She was about a year old, and I thought she was a Petite Lab. I drove from Medford to Yreka to meet her, and although it wasn't love at first sight, I knew we could give her a good home. I filled out the application and waited. I was a little impatient, so I called to check on our application. Sadly, I was told a family had been selected for her. I was surprisingly very disappointed. A few hours later I got a call from Rick at Rescue Ranch, telling us we had been selected to adopt her. I guess the person I spoke to didn't realize she was talking to the person/family selected for Midnight. Seriously, just a miscommunication.
We took Josie to meet Midnight, and since all went well, we brought her home with us. I was a little concerned because I found out she was a Pit/Lab mix, not Petite Lab (my mistake reading her paperwork). We renamed her Annie Grace and our life with 2 dogs began. Annie without a doubt, has the sweetest soul of any dog we have ever had. She is big and lanky and hates going to the vet, but everything else about her is pure joy.
Josie and Annie are the perfect pair, and they love each other so much, and we love them beyond measure. I think a big part of their connection began the day we took Josie to meet Annie at Rescue Ranch, which was a requirement before we could adopt Annie.
I cannot say enough positive words about Rescue Ranch. They were there when I needed a new puppy to heal my heart, and they were there when we wanted to add another pup to our family. I wish I lived closer to them, because if I did, I would definitely volunteer my time with them.
I attended several wonderful events at the Ranch for introducing their dogs to the public. My husband and I adopted 2 dogs from RR and are beyond delighted with our darlings.
The whole crew obviously love the dogs! The Ranch is clean and areas are set aside for activities such as Agility Training and Obedience Training open to the public. The dogs are walked, trained, socialized and made healthy. There have been times (after large fires and other disasters) when they are overwhelmed with new dogs. They have a wonderful foster parenting program and have the whole community supporting them
When the time comes for another dog(s) we will return to Rescue Ranch.
I recently adopted an adult dog from the rescue ranch. The rescue ranch was so helpful in providing the support and tools for success. If you're considering getting a pet, I highly recommend adopting from the rescue ranch and giving a furry friend their forever home.
I adopted my dog, Larry, a couple of years ago. The folks at the Rescue Ranch were super helpful and accommodating, even bringing Larry to meet my friend's dog off-site at one point to make sure they'd get along fine. Everyone who works there cares greatly for all the dogs, and they do so much good for the community here. Everyone should adopt a dog!
Could not have asked for a better experience adopting our dog, Cooper, from Rescue Ranch. From our first contact with a volunteer at the county fair all the way through the process everyone from the organization was friendly, knowledgeable and caring. Their application process was thorough and asked excellent targeted questions, but was not restrictive. They are committed to placing the right dog with the right adopter and it shows in every aspect of their organization. When we made an appointment to visit the adoption center we met with the manager, John. What treat this human being is! He took all the time we needed, answered all our questions and never once made us feel rushed or like he needed to hurry up and move onto the next thing he needed to do. Rescue Ranch has a LOT of dogs under their care, and John knew so much about pretty much all of them…it was truly astounding and showed how much time their staff spends with these dogs and how much love and care they are given while at the ranch. The facility was fantastic as well. Exceptionally clean and well kept and all the dogs were super healthy and happy. Most of the runs are very large and are outdoors (shelters provided of course!). They have dogs in runs together who match in terms of personality and energy levels, which absolutely increases quality of life for those pups. Mary, the adoption coordinator we worked with, was extremely knowledgeable and responsive both by phone and text. Her adoption interview was thorough and thoughtful which gave me confidence that this was a well run rescue. We used to foster dogs through a different organization when we lived in another city, so we definitely know what a good rescue looks like, and Rescue Ranch blew us away with how dialed in they are. Everything was seamless and it’s clear they have excellent operating procedures in place. Our new dog is just the most incredible boy in the world and we are so, so grateful that Rescue Ranch pulled him from the shelter so he could come into our lives. I will continue to recommend Rescue Ranch to anyone in our area who wants to add a furry family member and when our oldest dog passes we will absolutely return to Rescue Ranch when it’s time to adopt again.
We went to Rescue Ranch in January 2023 to meet a dog that was good with kids (we have a 7yr old), cats (2) and a bunny(1). That dog wasn't out dog. Instead we locked eyes with Autumn(now named Shirley). A 2.5 yr old German shepherd that was unknown if she would be good with kids, cats, or small animals. When we she came out she licked our daughters face and melted into us. This was our dog. She is fantastic with our cats and Bunny. She has brought so much joy to our lives. We are grateful for all that the Rescue Ranch does. At our local dog park we have met so many pups that have come from the ranch and everyone raves about how wonderful it is. I continually recommend it to anyone wanting a dog.
We were thrilled to add another addition to our family. We decided to go the rescue route this time. After checking out several dogs and puppies with a patient staff we decided upon a three month old hound mix, Daisy. We were happy to find out the adoption fee covered vaccines and spay. Also, there is ongoing support from the rescue ranch.
Rescue Ranch in an amazing organization. They work hard to find great homes for homeless dogs, they take in dogs for those evacuated by fires and also help other local rescues. I tell everyone I know who is looking to adopt a dog or wants support a rescue to look at Rescue Ranch. They are truly amazing.
This adoption agency seemed more interested in filling out forms and intruding in applicants personal lives. In addition when I indicated that I was a disabled Veteran it was suggested that I go there for a dog. So, I conclude, the only want personal information (to sell?), they seem to be a bit preadjust about handicapped people, and they do not seem to want to put the dogs in a good home. I am glad I did not tell them I am not a white person, the do (now) have my home address. I recommend that you go to your local animal shelter as this place seems a total scam!
I originally went up from Redding to look at a small dog, she had a lot of applications so i checked out the other small female dogs and fell in love with a small little black girl named Violet! It took awhile with my work schedule but we were able to do a visit with our other young dog Charlie. They were a match and we were able to bring her home. She's ate 3 remotes for the tv, lol but she is such a sweetheart. Her and Charlie play until they can't play anymore. So cute. They are best buddies. She gets to sleep where every she wants and loves the dirt in the backyard and the back of the sofa.
When Covid hit I became a couch potato and made the choice to get a Dog walking/ hiking companion. I had previously had a rescue who lived for 17 years so I started my search. I looked for a
year and a half and even looked at specific dog breeds thinking maybe I should just buy one. I am so glad I waited! I kept my eye on the rescue ranch website and adoptable dogs and one day I saw some that looked promising. I had to have a dog that could adventure but I could pick up in case anything went wrong. I drove up to check the pooches out and there was my dog! He wasn’t listed yet, as he had just arrived from a kill shelter in So Cal. I took him out for a walk and I found out how much fun chasing a grasshopper could be and they let me give him a bath, which he did not think was so fun. Because I had been in so many times I just said he’s mine and showed a video of my home and that’s the beginning of my love affair. I remain steadfastly loyal to RR and am stunned by the massive work they do to help dogs and people during the tragic fires this county endures
On Christmas Day 2021, my 10 year old Chihuahua passed away unexpectedly. There truly is no way to mend the pain felt by losing a pet that is so dear to you.
When I saw Goober on the Rescue Ranch website, I just knew that it was meant to be. The Rescue Ranch staff were so kind and easy to work with. I couldn't have asked for a more pleasant experience!
The first thing I looked for when we moved here in 2017 was the local shelter. I have always shared my life with rescues: dogs and cats.
These are the kindest most helpful folks on earth. We adopted a pup (5yrs old) last year, and were thrilled with the kindness and helpful information regarding the different breeds, behaviors, and temperaments.
This shelter also provides assistance to all of the evaccuees from wildfires with dogs.
I can't say enough,
Thank you, Rescue Ranch!
My son was evicted and had 2 beautiful dogs that I couldn't take in. 1 was at a full term pregnancy. Rescue Ranch took both dogs in and with a smile and kindness. The female delivered 9 puppies with the help of Laura at Rescue Ranch and all dogs have been adopted out. Rescue Ranch is the most beautiful soul!
I have never met a person at Rescue Ranch who did not exemplify their slogan "We Do It For the Dogs". I cannot imagine what the situation would be in our rural county if Rescue Ranch were not here to care for dogs in need. They are constantly improving every aspect of the organization, while rising to challenges such as setting up (on a moment's notice) to be the county's evacuation center when wildfires have impacted our county. In the last fire, for example, they took in 71 evacuated dogs in a short 6 hours. Another challenge has been an influx of abandoned dogs (many pregnant or with litters). Again, RR has stepped up, fostering countless litters of puppies in home environments and then finding loving homes for both the puppies and their mom. They are able to do these things because of their dedicated and skilled staff and their careful nurture of programs that bring in volunteers and donors.
My most recent personal experience with Rescue Ranch was adopting a puppy. When my ILA's litter was rescued, several of the puppies were very sick with Parvo. They were taken to a staff person's home and carefully nursed back to health (injections, scrupulous clean-up, etc). That at-risk puppy has grown into a sweet and wonderful family member and I'm grateful every day to Rescue Ranch for her existence.
We adopted my dog from Rescue Ranch in Yreka in 2021 and she is an amazing addition to our family. She is a very easy-going girl who is happy and healthy. She is totally content to lay around home and take in all or nothing that is going on in the home. But, if one of us suggests going for a hike, she is all in. We worked with an amazing staff member of theirs Austin who took time to get to know us, and our lifestyle and he recommended the perfect dog for us. Though we trusted Austin's input, we wanted to also meet some of the other dogs at Rescue Ranch. Despite meeting several other dogs, ultimately, Austin's recommendation was right on the mark.
Austin, the shelter manager Rick and all of the staff at Rescue Ranch appear to be very hard working and they truly do stick to their motto of "We do it for the dogs".
The only reason we didn't give them 5 stars is because they use to do boarding operations, but now they no longer board dogs. Having them as a reliable boarding facility was so very important and their prices were reasonable. Unfortunately, they stopped doing boarding of dogs and consequently, their competition to the north and south of them immediately raised their prices because they no longer had low-cost competition.
None the less, all of the dogs at Rescue Ranch appear well cared for and they run a very clean facility. We would adopt another dog from them without hesitation.
Hi! My name is Faith and last year after my husband and I bought our first house I couldnt wait to get a dog of my very own. We decided to visit Rescue Ranch and they were so helpful. Right away we were given a tour and introduced to several beautiful dogs. Rick was amazing and understood our needs and concerns. We breifly saw a black german shepherd mix that was already in the process of being adopted and we saw several other german shepherds (my husband's preference). After spending time at Rescue Ranch we knew we were going to try to adopt from there. I followed up on a couple applications and a few weeks later Rick had told me that the black german shepherd was still with them and if I was still interested. We were! After that we started the process and did a home test because we had 2 cats. They were very thoughtful about all our concerns and helped us through the whole way. While we were waiting for Lucy to get to the vet to be spayed and before the adoption was final they let us visit as much as we wanted to take her for walks and be with her. They even offered trainings with a dog trainer open to the community for free. This was such a help in the adjustment and answered questions we had about her behavior. Lucy has been with us for 1 year now and she is truly an amazing dog and has been the most perfect addition to our family. Thankyou Rescue Ranch for all that you do!
We adopted our sweet puppy in February of 2021. We had not had a dog in many years and had lots of questions. All of the people at Rescue Ranch were so helpful in making sure that we were matched up with the perfect puppy. They also make sure everyone gets the medication and vaccines they need at an affordable price. We have called many times with questions and no matter who you talk to there they spend the time to answer all your questions.
Rescue Ranch also is the first to offer aide to fire victims (there have been hundreds!), they must work around the clock! We are so impressed with them that we now send a yearly donation. I would love to volunteer there if I lived closer. Amazing organization!
When my first dog passed away I waited one year before getting another dog - Several friends had found their dogs at Rescue Ranch, so I researched and found it was the perfect way to find my new dog, Rowan. He was born in a litter that was with a Foster Mom until he was able to be adopted. Rowan had so much loving attention and care, as do all their adoptees. I couldn't be happier - Rowan loves everyone and he is a wonderful companion for a 77 year old senior. Big thanks to Rescue Ranch !!
