Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: Rescue From The Hart is a 501c3 Los Angeles dog rescue founded by Annie Hart and her husband - James Hart, after years of advocacy and animal rescue. We have dedicated our lives to saving abandoned and abused animals from local shelters and the streets and ultimately finding them loving forever homes. We provide each of our rescues with top-notch medical and emotional care through trusted vets, trainers and foster homes. We believe that these efforts - coupled with spay/neuter programs and educating the public - are the three key elements to eliminating pet overpopulation problems across the world. The first step to solving any problem is acknowledging that you have one. By sharing the stories of those we save, Rescue From the Hart demonstrates how countless animals are victims of circumstance and thrive when given a second chance - thus inspiring others to join our efforts and effect change. It Takes a Village Rescue From The Hart has built a community of engaged adopters, donors, volunteers, fosters and fans that learn from our efforts and take action within their own communities. With our village of vested animal lovers growing daily, this enables us to create small and large-scale solutions that will lead us closer to the day when no cat or dog is left behind.

Rescue From the Hart is unlike any other rescue I know, in that they find dogs that might not be easily adopted due to medical or behavioral issues. Once in their care, these dogs get the medical attention they need, and RFTH gets to work at rehabilitating and/or training them to get them adoption-ready.

My dog, who I adopted from RFTH, was found with a badly broken elbow. I’m so grateful to RFTH for getting her the immediate medical attention she needed without even thinking twice about the expense.

Once we committed to adopting, RFTH equipped us with information and resources to help us as we welcomed a new family member into our home. And there is great comfort knowing that RFTH will always be there for us with advice and additional resources.

I absolutely LOVE this organization and their dedication to saving lives of dogs in need.

This is gonna be long. I recently had lost my pet and wanted to foster. I searched and searched and was turned away because I was not available to attend events on weekends as I work. After sharing my frustration with a friend I was directed to Rescue from the Hart. What a breeze they were to work with. I filled out an application to foster. They asked what type of pup I would like to foster, age, energy etc. A lovely lady came to my home to check out safety and to see where they would be putting a pup (home check is what they call it ) this was 3 years ago.... I since Have adopted the very first dog I fostered for them and have fostered many others for them. This rescue is top notch all around. They treat their fosters and volunteers as valuable assets to a well run machine. As a new foster to a puppy (yup I said in the beginning I would take a puppy) I had questions which were answered promptly. I was given all supplies and tools to succeed. As an adopter my boy was fully vetted. And when questions arose they were there to answer and guide me. I highly recommend this organization.

The work this organization does is nothing short of amazing! Rescue From the Hart saves the lives of animals and places them in homes for forever happiness! We were blessed to work with Rescue From the Hart when adopting our dog. The organization was professional and personal! They did a home visit and spent time with us to make sure that we were the perfect family for their puppy. We were chosen to adopt the dog and it has been the greatest love affair of our lives! My daughter was so impressed with the organization that she now regularly volunteers at their pet adoptions! I recommend this organization to anyone looking to adopt their forever family member! This team does it right!

Rescue from the Hart does everything right. They often rescue dogs that have medical or physical issues that would preclude them from lifesaving adoption by other groups. They take great care in providing the best treatment for their pups, and then carefully screen prospective adopters to insure the best “match”. And then they are available to assist those adopters in insuring long term happy homes.
I feel secure that any dog I would adopt from RFTH would be a wonderful addition to our family

Rescue From the Hart sees the future and potential in every dog they save. Medical conditions, fearful, bonded pairs - this rescue rises to the challenge knowing they can help dogs that others pass by. It’s always incredible to see the transformations these dogs achieve in the care of RFTH. And RFTH insists in not just finding each dog a home but a good home, the right home, the one that is best for the humans and the pups. I’ve been a long time shelter volunteer and have worked with many rescue groups. Rescue From the Hart is one I always direct adopters to because I know the dogs they save will be magnificent family members in their new homes. And I love attending RFTH’s adoption events, especially when the alums show up with their proud and happy humans. It’s smiles all around.

Donor and an adopter. I got my big boy from RFTH and believe me my life has never been the same.

Annie and company always stood by their word. They have been a help throughout our life together. Could not recommend them higher.

Is not my personal experience but watched what they did for a dog who had been left starved to almost dead and this non-profit organization did everything possible in order to save this dog.
Today she is back to normal living a beautiful life with a new family.
Thank you Rescue from the Hart!

Resuce from the Hart is the best pet adoption group I have ever dealt with. We adopted our dog Domino from them and not only is he best dog ever, Heather who has been helping us through the whole process is absolutely amazing. She has gone above and beyond to make sure both Domino and our family are doing great together. I would highly recommend adopting from them! If I could give them more than 5 stars, I would

Rescue from the Hart is the most amazing dog rescue out there. Annie Hart is one of the most selfless human beings I've ever known, and all the volunteers are top notch. A lot of the times rescues can be slow at communicating with potential adopters, but everything RFTH does is in a very timely matter. RFTH rescues dogs many people would give up on (these dogs often have extreme medical conditions that can be resolved with patience, dedication and the help of the community). Thanks to RFTH, these dogs are nursed back to health and are found loving forever families. I myself have a RFTH dog and I also volunteer when I can. I am proud to support this organization. If there were a rating higher than 5 stars, I would certainly rate it more! Attached is my dog's before and after. Thanks to RFTH, he went from not being able to see due to foxtails in his eyes to regaining full vision! Forever grateful for everything this organization does

They go to the farthest extremes to save animals and rehabilitate them. Annie Hart is a gem-like none other-the best rescue I've ever fostered for by far.

Rescue from the Hart is the real best friend any animal could have. I've been rescuing animals for decades. Have worked with many of the "big box" rescues and have been disappointed in their priorities time and time again. I have seen "behind the curtain" how far Annie Hart and her group will go to ensure a happy, healthy and safe future for the animals in their care. If you support Rescue from the Hart you know that every single penny is going straight to the rescue & rehab of the animals.

We had a situation with 18 dogs that were chained outside to trees with no shelter, food or water and RFTH donated, money and materials to these dogs so we could build dog runs, bowls, food and shelter for them. I attached a short video of 3 of the dogs we got off the property that RFTH helped.

Their name should be. "Rescuing from their Hearts"

I have worked with Annie since 2012 in a volunteer, staff, and operations capacity. Her goal is to network with other rescuers to end abuse, neglect and overpopulation. Their focus is always on what is best for the animal first. Egos second. 100% of the donations go towards the operations, medical and administrative expenses of the rescue. It is very rewarding to see an animal to go from near death to thriving in sometimes a matter of weeks due to the work of this village.

Rescue From the Hart makes a difference every day. They are so deeply caring, they stand by every dog they rescue, no matter how serious their medical needs are. They have created and inspired a world wide community of support and the stories of many of their rescues have been shared over and over again on line. Athena, Luke, Snowman, and beautiful Angel! Everyone one of their stories will move you to tears.

Rescue From The Hart has the most compassionate, selfless caring person I have ever known at the helm. Annie Hart and RFTH are responsible for saving dogs nobody else will even attempt (usually extreme need, medically intense dogs ). I have personally witnessed RFTH repeatedly reach out to the public (funding over 2000 spays and neuters) as well as being a " go to" group for many other rescues when they need help. RFTH is always there to help with needed supplies, advice or to roll up their sleeves and get things done.
RFTH is a rescue group that truly puts the rescue dogs ahead of anything else.

Rescue From The Hart is an amazing rescue. They take dogs under their wing with greatest of challenges. They never give up on a dog no matter how expensive or challenging the dogs issues are. I started off by following them on Facebook. I loved their dedication and friendly heartwarming updates on specific dogs. It inspired me to do more. I volunteered at a few other rescues. I now am a volunteer and foster with Rescue From The Hart. Rescue From The Hart performs far above the others that I was involved with in both commitment and transparency. Annie Hart the founder went above and beyond to support me in my fostering efforts. She dedicates herself to each individual dog and happy and successful placement. It is truly a rescue like no other! It is 100% volunteer based with all donations going to the dogs lucky enough to be Rescue From The Hart dogs!

Rescue from the Hart started out as one of my favorite rescues to follow on social media. The rescues videos really pulled me in (and pulled on on my heart strings). I then became a monthly donor, followed by a volunteer. I had volunteered with other organizations in the past and didn't particularly enjoy my experience. With RFTH, however, I felt right at home. All of the people involved are incredibly kind and knowledgable. The adoption events are well thought, organized, and most importantly: FUN for both the volunteers and the dogs. Annie Hart is one of the most selfless people I have ever met and has a huge heart. She puts the dogs first and always has their best interests in mind. She forms a bond with each dog she rescues and never forgets then ( and believe me, they don't forget her either!). #DoSomethingItMatters

I have followed Rescue From The Hart on Facebook for some time, I began volunteering about six months ago. I had been looking to volunteer with a rescue and had focused my search to those close to me, thinking logistically it made more sense to volunteer closer to home. Although there are many excellent local rescues, I spoke to and visited numerous, none felt right to me. And these rescues do good work, just not a fit for me. I decided to go out of my area and since Rescue From The Hart had always impressed me, I contacted them first. Speaking with Annie, she was so genuine and I felt an immediate connection, so I decided this was the rescue for me! The extra miles are nothing when compared to the journey. I am a skeptical person by nature, not one to donate or volunteer, I have and continue to do both with Rescue From The Hart. Annie and the volunteers show integrity, passion and compassion (and of course have fun) in everything they do. This has been a great experience and I will continue to contribute to Rescue From The Hart by volunteering and donating. I highly recommend that anyone who has thought about volunteering or donating, do it!

My first involvement with RFTH was as a donor. After sitting on the sidelines for a while, I decided to step it up a notch and volunteer. Volunteering with RFTH is one of the most fulfilling things I've done, honestly. Annie Hart teaches you "the ropes" and patiently provides direction so that your time and efforts are spent well. Meanwhile, you have the amazing experience of watching pups go from scared and sometimes hurt to thriving and loved. I would recommend volunteering and fostering (I'm working on socializing my dogs for that experience) for RFTH. You will NOT regret it!

I love all animals but still I am so cautious about making donations to any charity. Rescue From the Hart has been so open to us with any and all information. I live too far away to roll up my sleeves with them but I feel so blessed to be even a small distant part of the village by donating. Thank you Annie, James and Village for sharing your love and passion.

I started out just as a donor to RFTH. I really appreciate the transparency that RFTH provide to their donors. Letting us know every step of the way what our donations are being used towards. Most importantly, they're honest with us as to the progress and outcome of the dogs that are rescued. I was really moved by RFTH's efforts to save animals that I became a volunteer when the opportunity presents itself. It was a lot of fun. I get to help dogs and hang out with great people that share the same interests. The RFTH volunteers are a group of people that have the kindest of hearts and sacrifice their time and money to help the dogs. Because I felt I could do even more for the RFTH dogs, I also became a foster. Working with Annie, the co-founder of Rescue From The Hart, has been an amazing experience. I was initially worried that I would not be a good foster candidate because I do work a full time job. Annie was able to match me with a foster dog that matches my home and lifestyle. It's been a bit over a year now since I've started this journey with Annie and RFTH and it has had such a great impact on my life. I am so grateful to have met a group of some of the nicest people I know and to be inspired by them daily.

In October of 2015, Rescue from the Hart saved us and our new dog from a desperate situation. We had arranged with a Canadian rescue to bring a 4 year-old terrier mix from San Bernardino shelter to us in Canada. No one had come forward to adopt her and she was overdue meaning she could be put to sleep. We paid the Canadian rescue $450 and then $432 more for her care, vetting, and transportation to Canada. It turned out they took our money and left poor Gemma at the vet that the shelter uses with the bill unpaid. We did not know what to do! Fortunately, we had watched Rescue From The Hart's videos in which they have saved many beautiful, defenseless dogs from suffering, homelessness, and possible death. We had made a small donation to support their work in early 2015. I sent them a message on Facebook. We had no contacts in Los Angeles and waited with hopes and prayers for at least a suggestion. We got more than advice! We got a rescue that went into immediate action, Annie Hart (the lead at Rescue From The Hart) called on her network of support and they got Gemma out before the vet sent her back to the shelter. They got her transported to their vets (VCA Westlake Village Animal Hospital) where she was treated for some health challenges and provided with amazing care. Rescue From The Hart helped us financially and with all the information we needed so that Gemma could get healthy and get a health certificate to legally enter Canada. Without Rescue From The Hart, this other rescue's bad actions would have resulted in Gemma's death and our endless guilt for starting a process we could not finish. Instead, Gemma has been with us for a week now and is the most beautiful, loving, cuddly bundle of affection and life that anyone could ever imagine. Annie met me at the hotel when I travelled to LA to bring Gemma back. Her kindness, gentleness, good sense, and extensive knowledge of dogs and dog rescue made a lifelong impression on me. I commend Rescue From The Hart and Annie Hart. I can never thank them enough! I wish you could compare the photo of Gemma in the animal shelter all flea and tick and parasite infested to how she is now - all fluffy and safe and well-fed and pampered (as all dogs should be - as all life should be). Thank you Rescue From The Hart! Thank you Annie! From Kathryn Brillinger of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada

Volunteering with Rescue From The Hart is the most inspiring work I've ever been a part of! From their community help with Spay/Neuter, to their fun and well planned adoption events, this group really does an amazing job helping animals, caring about the community and getting their "villagers" eager to help!
