I interned with the Reporters Committee over the summer and I can't recommend it enough. The amount of meaningful work they do is impressive, and the organization is filled with top-tier professionals who bring unmatched enthusiasm, talent, and dedication to everything they do. The entire public - not just the journalism community - is lucky to have such a great organization fighting for the First Amendment and working to protect a free press.
I was lucky enough to intern at the Reporters Committee in the spring of 2019. The organization is a force to be reckoned with: When threats to press freedom — for instance, the Julian Assange indictment or the unlawful search and seizure of journalist Bryan Carmody's work products —surface, the journalism community looks to the Reporters Committee for leadership and for action. Those who work for the Reporters Committee are empowered and energized by their platform; these mission-driven public servants are eager to go the extra mile to protect and advance the public's right to know. And as an aspiring press lawyer myself, I could not have asked for a more fulfilling experience. The brilliant and collegial Communications team members offered so much mentorship and support as they edited my blog posts on the Reporters Committee's litigation and amicus work, and the staff attorneys allowed me to engage with the organization's legal work by completing research and editing assignments. I feel eminently fortunate to have been a part of this organization, and hope to find other ways to take part in the Reporters Committee's work down the line.
You will be hard-pressed to find another organization as dedicated to protecting First Amendment rights as the Reporters Committee. Everything they do, no matter what, is always centered around the goal of defending 1A freedoms and the newsgathering rights of journalists. RCFP is especially several steps forward of the current times when it comes to technology and press freedoms. I can't wait to see the great work they do in the future.
I spent the summer of 2019 as a legal intern at Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and loved every minute of it. I genuinely fell more in love with the mission with each matter I got the chance to handle. I will forever cherish my time at RCFP, and I am honored to have gotten my start at such a terrific organization.
