Renees Friends Fund is a great local charity. I like that the funds stay in Colorado for helping cancer patitents with basic needs of just living day to day life. They raise money in fun ways keeping a smile on the face of those they help as well as those that are donating and keeping the charity alive.
Renee's Friends Fund is a non profit all volunteer organization that provides women patients and survivors of breast cancer with non medical assistance. One of their fund raising projects is a calendar. In 2010 it was "Fine Men and Handsome Horses". In 2011 it is "Fine Men - Pink'd". All of the men were chosen out of many who applied to be a "calendar man". The selection process included having the men tell us what RFF means to them and how they have been touched by someone with cancer. It has been such a wonderful project and we will be looking for the 2012 men for "Geezers, Codgers and Grumpy Ole Men" Go to the website www.reneesfriendsfunds.org and put in you application. God Bless you one and all
We hosted a large fundraising event for Renee's Friends Fund recently. This was not the first year for the event and it has quite a bit of community presence. The RFF group was very difficult to deal with this year where as in previous years they were very present at the event. This year they did not send any board members or literature to the fundraiser and they did not even lend support through their website or email lists, contrary to our agreements and understandings with the organization. They also did not supply any financial reports for previous years' funds that were requested after several large donations.
Barnes Ranch in Larkspur, CO, has hosted the Best Bawl Versatility Ranch horse for the past few years. In 2009, I served as a judge, and in 2010, I helped procure auction items. The people involved in the Renee's Friend's Fund events are top notch! Everyone comes out to have a good time while raising funds, whether volunteers from RFF, for RFF or participating in the event. This charity gives 100% to the people it serves, so hearts and wallets open freely. Nothing is more worthwhile than knowing that you are truly helping someone else, not lining the pockets of the "administrators." Renee herself attends the events, and that personal touch means so much to those whose lives she's touched. In these days of dollar-watching, it's nice to watch your dollars make a difference!
Back in 2004, after already fighting breast cancer for months...it was apparent there was a need that was not being met in the community. Good friend Donna Baxter, wanted to start do something in my honor , and came up with the idea of a Dressage Show, accepted and hosted by Cottonwood Riding Club. This one day show went over with an unbelievable zest. Instant success...!! It was an amazing day, and Renee's Friends Fund was born. Six years later, and all grown up, the fund provides non medical expenses for those in CO communities that no one else will help. It feels great to know we are there, when patients need us.. no fuss, no lengthy wait, no embarrassing questions...Just there to soothe the worries of those in need. We are always striving to do more, and do it better, and I'm sure with growth, that goal will someday be met.
