Causes: Environment
Mission: Promoting environmentally safe operation of the alyeska terminal in valdez and the oil tankers that use it. The council performs a variety of functions aimed at reducing pollution from crude oil transportation through prince william sound and the gulf of alaska. The council increases public awareness of the valdez marine terminals oil spill response, spill prevention and environmental protection capabilities, as well as the actual and potential environmental impacts of terminal and tanker operations.
Programs: Oil spill prevention and response-works to minimize the risks and impacts associated with oil transportation through strong spill prevention and response measures, adequate contingency planning, and effective regulations; terminal operation and environmental monitoring-identifies actual and potential sources of episodic and chronic pollution at the valdez marine terminal; port operations and vessel traffic systems; monitors port and tanker operations.
