REFPA's Blue Bag Program is a caring way to show foster families they care! We got a call one afternoon that a toddler needed an emergency family to care for her. I didn't have time to go shopping to get things she needed. When she arrived, the social worker handed me a blue duffle bag full of clothes and essential items including a beautiful hand made quilt to get us through the first four days without rushing to the store. Everything was brand new and just the right size. Thank you REFPA for supporting us during the first days of a new placement and making things a little easier.

Mission: Our mission is to support the Sonoma County foster care community and the children they serve.
Target demographics: foster youth in Sonoma County
Direct beneficiaries per year: over 400
Geographic areas served: Sonoma County, CA
Programs: Blue bag project - provided duffel bags packed with gender/size/season specific clothing, toys and a personal quilt to young children entering foster care while providing gift cards for youth nine years and older. So far in 2022, over 350 children benefited from this program. 55 scholarships were granted to youth for extracurricular activities and five birth families who successfully reunited with their children were presented with Target gift cards valued at $250 each during the holiday season. Resource Parents and Relative Placements are eligible for a reimbursement of up to $175 towards the purchase of new car seat that will become personal property of the child,
scholarship and senior expense program - provide assitance to children in foster care for extracurricular activities such as sports, art music, etc. Including supplies, medical and educational needs, and other school activity costs. In 2017, 56 children benefited from this program.
child and respite care program - provided support to foster/adoptive/kinship families for time away from their placements so that they may attend trainings and other functions to improve their caregiving skills. In 2017, 54 people benefited from this program.
provided various social and training events to aid and support volunteers, caregivers and children in foster care.
