I can’t say enough good things about Red Mountain Grace.
From the day we arrived until we left after 39 days of radiation.
We live in Valley Grande Al driving to Birmingham everyday would have been very hard. Red Mountain Grace was a blessing.
Austin meet us at the apartment the day we arrived he made sure we had everything we needed.
The apartment was very nice, clean and furnished with what we needed to start Roger’s Radiation journey.
He prayed with us before he left that meant so much to us.
Lindsey was always texting us to see if we were ok or needed anything.
Valentine’s Day she brought us cake. It was delicious!!!
Red Mountain Grace will always have a special place in our heart.
They are the most loving caring group of people.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
We love you!

My husband needed a heart transplant. We had to go out of state for surgery and post operative care. Our SWorker at UAB was able to connect us with Red Mountain Grace. They made living 5 hours from home comfortable and welcoming.

Our apartment was CLEAN, well decorated, completely furnished. Members of their team made visits with us and prayed over us. They made us feel treasured. We had so much to be concerned about but they relieved so much of the weight we were living under.

RMG cares deeply for our community by meeting people exactly where they are during their darkest hours and walking alongside them. Their approach to gracious hospitality is unlike any other. If you are seeking medical care in our city, reach out to RMG! These people will take care of you and love you well!

I've volunteered for Red Mountain Grace for more than three years now, and I've found it to be a nonprofit that provides an invaluable service to individuals and families from outside the area who are facing extended hospital and convalescent stays in Birmingham. By providing our guests clean, private long-term housing at VERY low cost, we are able take away some of the worry and stress related to both the serious health concerns they face, as well as the high cost of extended stays in hotels. Our guests include people with family members hospitalized for life-threatening or chronic health conditions but also the patients themselves when they are able to leave the hospital but must continue to recuperate in close proximity to advanced medical care. I appreciate that RMG is faith-based but provides its services to guests based strictly on need and regardless of their own beliefs, as I think this is a vital aspect of Christian service to others. My main contribution to RMG is apartment cleaning and laundering linens between guest's stays, helping with preparation for special fundraising events, and connecting with guests so that they know they aren't alone in a city they may be totally unfamiliar with. Before COVID, we also made weekly visits to those of our guests who were hospitalized, and I hope that we will be able to resume that activity when the pandemic is over as it was especially rewarding for me. Because of the seriousness of our guests' medical conditions, we sometimes face the loss of patients we're serving - this is very difficult, especially with guests we've come to know well (and those who are very young), but we are still grateful that we were able to serve them and their families.

When a good friend asked me to join her as a volunteer with Red Mountain Grace, I was a little hesitant. I knew I didn’t mind cleaning apartments when guests moved out, but I worried that I might not be good at visiting patients in the hospital and their family members. How would I know what to say to them? This was way outside my comfort zone, but I decided to give RMG a try, and I’ve never regretted it. I found that visits were as rewarding for me as to they were for the patients and families. I’ve had the opportunity to let people know that they are not alone in their toughest times and have been able to share my faith with them through prayer. Along with the other RMG volunteers with whom I’ve shared visits, I’ve been able to provide the patients and families a chance to share their fears and concerns and, for some, the joy they’ve experienced through good outcomes. I’ve heard many express how thankful they are for a clean, low-cost, convenient place to stay during their extended time in Birmingham. I’m thankful too – thankful for the chance that RMG has given me to be a small part of all the blessings this group provides to those in need.

After my retirement, I discovered volunteer opportunities within Red Mountain Grace. It is a blessing to serve guests of Red Mountain Grace with housing and hospitality.

I have been a Volunteer with RMG for 6 years… I became involved when a dear friend contacted me about her Grandson, who was 5 days old, and had been transported to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham from Auburn .. He was critically ill and for 5 long excruciating months was waiting for a Miracle …that Miracle arrived , he was given a new heart and he Is now a thriving first grader! Red Mountain Grace placed the family in an apartment close to the hospital where they were able to stay comfortably for the duration of the 7 months he was in the hospital… I was in awe of how generous this organization was to the family , providing not only the apartment , but visits , prayers and emotional support. I wanted so much to become a part of this Christian organization , and have had the opportunity to not only volunteer in various roles, but to also form lifelong friendships. I cannot say enough good things about RMG and the Ministry they provide to those facing the worst times in their life.

I have been a Volunteer with Red Mountain Grace for almost 4 years . I began helping after I retired from a 42 year Nursing Career. I am honored to be able to be a part of this organization because of the difference it makes in families experiencing life changing medical crisis. Imagine being in an unfamiliar city the size of Birmingham with a beloved family member clinging to life in a huge hospital, not knowing how you’re going to manage the long journey toward recovery for your loved one. The endless days and nights of sitting in a hospital waiting room, juggling phone calls , possibly your work , if it can done by a mobile device , the cost of meals, or even a cup of coffee . Red Mountain Grace steps in to provide a clean, completely furnished, low cost apartment to call home , where you can go to rest and recharge for the long next day. The linens are provided , Internet is provided, and place to lay your weary head at night. Also visits from the volunteers are frequent , but most of all are the Prayers for you and your family that this organization has become known for. It is truly a life line of hope and compassion and dedication to be the hands and feet of Jesus. The leadership of RMG is committed to bringing as much comfort , safe, and affordable housing to the city as possible . I’ve seen a grown man cry tears of JOY when he got the keys to his apartment, after spending more than 2 months ‘living’ in a hospital ICU waiting room. Just imagine! As a volunteer , I am Blessed, and RMG has changed my life also.

We are incredibly grateful for this ministry! Lindsey at Red Mountain Grace was so helpful and kind to work with. Red Mountain Grace really helped us out at a time that we didn't know what to do. They took a huge financial burden off of us while our family member was going through a lengthy therapy in Birmingham. We are SO thankful for the service and ministry they provide. Thank you to all the donors that make this ministry possible!

I was actually the first employee for Red Mountain Grace. Since leaving as an employee, I am a volunteer. Red Mountain Grace is the most amazing non profit because they not only provide housing, for patients and their caregivers, but they minister to their needs. Before Covid came along, we visited patients in the hospitals and also ministered to their families. WE have provided Thanksgiving meals and Christmas gifts and meals over the years. RMG realizes how hard it is to be away from home and in a city, many times without any support, so we try to make this a home away from home.

Red Mountain Grace is a phenomenal organization. We stumbled across them gem while doing a google search. We worked directly with Lindsey Smith on getting an affordable place to stay while in Birmingham for a surgery for my spouse. The apartment was within a reasonable distance from UAB, and it had everything we needed. I highly recommend Red Mountain Grace to other families seeking safe, clean, and affordable housing while supporting a loved one at a local hospital. Red Mountain Grace reduced a lot of stress for us.

About six years ago, Orren was diagnosed with a lung disease. His only chance at life was a transplant. After given several choices of where he could go, we chose UAB. We knew when the time came that we would have to leave our home for at least three months and had been told about a foundation that could help us with our stay.
On June 25, 2021, Orren got the call to go to Birmingham for the transplant. Fortunately, at the time we were already there for doctor appointments. He received a double lung transplant and was in the hospital for two weeks. God definitely held Orren and his health in His hands because Orren progressed each day! When it came time for discharge , we went to a camper until an apartment became available. ( better than a hotel) After only a week, Red Mountain Grace called and placed us in an apartment. The apartment was in a very nice area and had everything we would need for our stay. The cost was another blessing!
Everyone we encountered from Red Mountain was awesome. We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary while there and the foundation brought us a cake and meat and cheese tray! They went above and beyond just providing an apartment. They cared about us!
We are so thankful for Red Mountain Grace and all they did to make our stay the best.

The folks at Red Mountain Grace are excellent at what they do. From the first day we met them, they really seemed to care about us and what we were going through and made us feel at home. I can't imagine trying to find a place to live for three months in a city that I knew nothing about, but the experience with RMG WAS TRULY OUTSTANDING. They have the heart of Jesus and it shows through their actions.

Red Mountain Grace was started by a great friend just a few months after a family member had spent weeks in Seattle for specialized cancer treatment - 2,500 miles away from friends and family. Since that struggle was still very fresh in our minds, we intimately knew the value this kind of ministry could provide, and the difference it could make, in our own hometown. Though we lived out of town at the time, it was an easy decision to support their efforts from day one. Since we have moved back to Birmingham, we've had the privilege of serving alongside an incredible staff and loving volunteers that minister to families in need in so many ways - the least of which is providing a comfortable place to sleep at night while they face some of life's darkest challenges.

I’ve been a volunteer with Red Mountain Grace for 2 years and am always amazed at the heart this organization has for coming along side the patients and their families - not only providing inexpensive housing during a stressful time in their lives but letting them know that they are loved and cared for, shining the love of Christ. It’s the way I would want to be treated were I in the same situation.

I love helping care givers who are in Birmiingham to care for a loved one who is at UAB or Childrens Hospital for extended medical treatment. Red Mountain Grace allows them to have a clean, fully-furnished apartment to stay in at an affordable price. And we get to lift a little bit of the burden off of their sholders when we visit them and the patient each. A friendly face and a kind smile often times can bring hope when the days seem so long and the future so uncertain.

I learned of Red Mountain Grace when a member of our family stayed in one of their apartments while their daughter was in NICU at UAB. The baby was given a very grim prognosis but Red Mountain Grace allowed the family to be together during these stressful days and a place to retreat from the sounds of NICU happenings. They received so much love and support for the Red Mountain Grace team. It's like one big loving family! It is through this experience that I decided to become a volunteer.

They gave us a beautiful apt while my daughter was treated for brain tumor at uab we were there from june 27th until the middle of October. We went thru radiation and chemo. If it had not been for red mountain we could not have done it. They deserve a medal. We still go back to uab every two months but if it was not for them her children coukd not have been a part of her care.

This nonprofit provided housing for my parents after my father underwent a lung transplant over a year ago. Unfortunately, he passed away three months after the surgery. But, thanks to Red Mountain Grace, my two young children were able to spend countless hours of quality time with their granddaddy at the apartment provided by Red Mountain Grace. I cannot begin to describe the burden they helped lift financially from my family. The staff, Executive team, and board members are top notch and exemplify a true servant’s heart. We are forever grateful to this nonprofit.
