Heaven on earth! Such a beautiful, serene sanctuary for these precious equines. I've had the pleasure of a tour with Mary Adams a few years ago and it thoroughly did my heart good.
May any bad memories fade away as they sun and run and graze and laze the rest of their lives in the quietude and peace of such a beautiful place.
Thank you Mary and the staff and volunteers for all that you do for these sweet souls in giving them a calm and a safe space.

Sincerely,
Whitney Ward

I am soo impressed with Red Bell Run Foundation and what they do to help our beloved equines. I am so proud to stand up for Red Bell as well as support what they do. These wonderful people are so dedicated. You can tell that by the disasters they have gone thru. Their main and only goal is to help their beloved equines stay healthy and safe. I live halfway across the country but I am with these wonderful people in spirit and with donations. I will always support them. God Bless what they do.

This is an amazing, well run sanctuary for equines of all sizes who need a place to live out their lives in comfort, despite health and other troubles. And there is an active volunteer program that I participated in with my partner, who had dementia. We had moved on from our farm, but Sandy really missed having horses. We were able to volunteer by grooming mini donkeys a couple of times a month until it got too hard for her physically. Those gentle creatures were perfect in size and temperament for her. And the staff was careful to make sure she knew who each one was and was safe.

I was privileged to visit Red Bell 2023, and little did I know that in 2024 I would be witnessing their amazing work in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene and the wildfires in 2025 in Western NC. First of all, Mary Adams provides amazing leadership - hands on, always visible and involved. She has managed both a wonderful Sanctuary and far reaching relief efforts - both receiving and dispatching much needed supplies to serves all sorts of livestock and at critical times human needs as well. Having worked with non-profits for many years, I can tell you this is a sound and outstanding one.

I had the most amazing experience volunteering at Red Bell Run. Each equine that was there, was treated with love and dignity. Most had been rescued from horrific conditions. Here at Red Bell Run they would be able to live their years out of this amazing sanctuary in peace and quiet with
24 /7 around the clock Love and Care. Truly, a Shangri-La for abused animals.

The hay I've gotten from Red Bell Run since Hurricane Helene has been such a huge help in keeping my equine therapy practice going. I've been able to use the money I would have spent on (more expensive now) hay on building a new fence line and getting the property restored from the flood and wind damage. Thank you so much to the donors and most of all for what RBR does for equines, they are amazing!!!

From the management to the every day operations this rescue is an exemple of dedication and organisation to its best. This is heaven on earth for all these rescued equines. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful place so close to us. No matter how little or how much you can volunteer/visit it is well worth the experience.

We have visited Red Belle Run twice and each time we were so impressed with the beautiful pastures, clean barns, and healthy, happy equines that live there. I am a retired veterinarian and my wife and I raised burros and horses for 40 years and loved every minute of our farm life. Red Bell Run takes care of their equines with the same diligence, passion, and medical supervision that we did for our animals. Their facilities are the closest thing to heaven on earth for burros and horses. Every caretaker that I met there takes their job very seriously and loves what they do. We have been donors for several years and will gladly support them for many years to come.

I visited last year and had the most incredible tour being taken around on a golf cart and hearing stories about all the wonderful animals and how they are cared for. We stopped at many barns to visit the very special animals who are so well cared for both physically and emotionally. Red Bull Run is an incredible place and I'm so glad I got to experience it first hand. It is truly a beautiful place.

I also love the photos of all the wonderful equines in their care. I occasionally forward these newsletters to friends far afield and they love the touching stories too. Although we live in Idaho, I hope to plan an entire vacation some day to include seeing Red Bell Run in the near future.

I am a proud volunteer at Red Bell Run. My first impression of Red Bell Run was/is the obvious. The property is stunning. The approximate 150 rescued equines are beautiful and precious. They are truly blessed to be cared for at the levels I have witnessed and have since deemed as necessary. During my first week of training, it was clear to see how well run and organized it is. Throughout the next few weeks, I noticed every person I met was knowledgeable, kind, helpful and appreciative. They also seemed happy. My initial intentions were to take things slow. With little or no delay, I found myself wanting to dive in. Any expectations I may have had were exceeded beyond imagination. To merely say Red Bell Run is "well run and organized" is an understatement. Almost a year later... I still find myself thinking WOW!

The obvious is just one reason I enjoy volunteering at Red Bell Run. It is very clear to see what Red Bell Run does for numerous rescued equines, their employees and community. New to the area and recently retired... I needed to find something meaningful and rewarding to fill my spare time. It was important to me to find the right fit. Not only is Red Bell Run the right fit for me but I now find myself prioritizing my volunteer work over my "spare time". There are not many things I do in my life where I am 100% in the moment. I am extremely organized and driven. It is often difficult for me to quiet my brain. I clean my house meticulously which can be therapeutic, but my brain is still on overload. I enjoy boating and bass fishing with my husband as it is relaxing however find myself reminiscing in the beauty and the calm. I enjoy riding my road bike. It is my choice of fitness as well as a great form of stress relief when I feel the weight of the world's troubles.

That said... soon after I started volunteering at Red Bell Run it occurred to me that 100% of my time spent was in the moment. I am not thinking about anything else I may need to do. My brain is not wandering to other places. I do not feel the stress of the world. When I am grooming the equines, I am only thinking about their care. When I am cleaning stalls, I am only thinking about their care. When I look at them... my heart melts. It is instant love. Becoming knowledgeable with the rescues past history is important for caregivers but quite difficult to hear. The saving grace is witnessing the crucial and top-level care they receive on a round-the-clock basis.

I mention what volunteering at Red Bell Run has done for "me" in this review because I would like others to know what volunteer work of any kind can do for them... especially when it is the right fit. It feels good to help a cause so close to your heart. Red Bell Run and others alike need and appreciate people that can help. I am so grateful for the many people and organizations that have given their life and most often their life savings to help make the world a better place.

The people I work with at Red Bell Run have become very important to me. The equines I help care for have completely stolen my heart.

I have been rescued...

For me, the Sanctuary at Red Bell Run is a haven of peace and love. I feel overwhelmed to see so many
animals living a safe life, surrounded by the love of their caregivers who constantly display the devotion
they have to their jobs. My first visit to the Sanctuary was with a social group. I couldn’t wait to get the
grandkids out there. For a three and five year old they were very responsive to the animals. It’s hard to
explain the strong feelings I had on a visit with my stepdaughter. She has endured the pain of lung
cancer for over 11 years, a rare feat. Her engagement with the animals was immediate. I stood back
and gave her all the time she needed to stroke and talk to the animals. It was as if the animals shared
her pain. Like her, they look healthy but they are all dealing with the pains of the past. Like many of the
horses she has neurological issues. We shared our awe with Zander. She could feel his connection to
her. Moses is her favorite which is easy to understand. I hope spirit will keep Laura with us to enjoy
another trip. After that visit I decided to become a volunteer. I am happy to do any chore they need
done. I sometimes run late and am given to speeding down Highway 9 and Chesnee Road. When I turn
off at Blackburn Road, and arrive among the grape vines, my heart rate slows down and I feel part of a
special universe.

I toured Red Bell Run with the hopes of volunteering. They far exceeded every expectation I had. I have been involved with horses for over 40 years and I have NEVER been to a facility so well run, so immaculate, and with such an incredible, knowledgeable staff. Our tour guide Chloe knew so much about every animal there, what their particular condition was and how they were being treated. This is the first and only facility I have been at where the animals TRULY come first. I will be starting my volunteer service next week and I can’t wait!

I contacted them regarding donations. The owner took the time to explain her rescue and sanctuary. She wasn’t in a hurry to get off the phone or just looking for a donation. She actually sent me a calendar of some of the recent rescues. I get a weekly update on what’s going on at her sanctuary. These stories are amazing transformations-heart wrenching. They are constantly taking in some of the most horrific cases and without them these animals would be doomed to Death. They are truly animal lovers and the kindness and compassion they have is unbelievable. I live in RI and stumbled upon their sanctuary by Gods Grace. We don’t have anything close to this rescue/sanctuary here. I am considering after retiring in 2 yr a move to NC to volunteer & be a part of this wonderful sanctuary. Please honor them with an award. Red Bell Run is the most amazing equine sanctuary where miniature hinnies, donkeys, and ponies, as well as horses, draft mules, and even Mammoth donkeys, live out their natural lives. In 2022, we were fortunate to meet Mary Adams (founder) and tour the 200+ acre property in Western Carolina. She recounted many harrowing stories and specific medical needs of the 150+ rescued equines. The non-profit encourages community engagement and welcomes guests; it's well worth a visit.

The first time I went to Red Bell Run I was delighted to see how kind the staff was when they greeted us. The grounds were spotless and so well kept up. The flowers were in bloom and it’s a place I was just happy to be there. But then as the tour began seriously I was blown away at all the stories of the mules and horses and how badly they were abused, which made me so sad but at the same time a great sense of joy as I looked at them today and how happy they all seemed. These people at Red Bell are truly amazing, honestly the hours it must have taken and the money it must take to nourish these poor neglected animals back to health, not just physically, but emotionally as well was mind blowing to me. They address every possible issue with the best qualified people that they can find. I’ve been taking a lot of people there and as a result have gotten to know the volunteers there, and how they have bonded with each animal that they are responsible for is truly incredible. I see and hear about so many abandoned and abused animals that no one even cared about and it’s truly heartbreaking, so to have a non profit like Red Bell is a gift to us all who love animals. Let’s all do our part to keep donating to this wonderful place these lucky rescues can live in peace and be loved . Deb Isabell

If the Sanctuary at Red Bell Run wasn't so good at what they do for abused and neglected equines, a visit there would remind you of a well maintained park with beautifully manicured fields and flower gardens.

Mary and her staff do not cut any corners in caring for these animals who all came from horrid situations that would literally make you cry.

I had the privilege of volunteering at Red Bell Run prior to Covid. Once Covid began, opportunities for volunteering became quite limited. I approached the owner of this organization and asked to be employed by her. Gratefully I was employed part time in cleaning stalls and working with miniature horses. After a few months I was given additional responsibilities in developing and leading tours of the organization. This then lead into developing a volunteer training program and leading the Read with Rescues program. The Sanctuary at Red Bell Run rescues equine and people alike, providing the best environment and care of both. It was an honor and privilege to volunteer and work for Red Bell Run and to play a part in the care of the dear equine rescued by the founder Mary Adams.

As a member of an Oklahoma rescue group, I have had the privilege of working with Mary Adams of Red Bell Run to secure the futures of some very fortunate equine. Red Bell Run is a blessed sanctuary to so many equine that found themselves in bad places, standing in kill lots, uncared for in pastures or otherwise abandoned.

The blessing of Red Bell Run is that, to a person, they are willing stand in the breach for horses and donkeys which are largely unadoptable due to chronic medical conditions, physical or emotional trauma. The veterinary and farrier care and feeding protocols are of course top notch, but the hands on care and love they are given daily, the knowledge of each animal’s physical, social and emotional needs sets them apart. I imagine that any horse or donkey arriving at the stunning setting feels peace and contentment, maybe for the first time in their lives. Everything done here is done for the betterment of the lives of all animals who are happy to live out their lives with love and care in the most beautiful sanctuary setting. I couldn’t recommend them more!

We heard of Red Bell Run through a friend, invited grandparents and their grand children to go on a hay ride with us. One young man who is not terribly verbal, was transported by his visit with the donkeys, as somehow they felt his pain. My granddaughter, who was deathly afraid of horses, fell in love with the minis, could not help petting them. The level of care given to the service animals and abused animals is exceptional. Local schoolchildren regularly read books to the animals, improving their reading skills as well as providing socialization for the animals. This gift to our community is available free of charge to anyone who wants to visit, with the backdrop of a stunning mountain view and vineyard.

What a wonderful thing to see and we are so proud to live close by and be able to support and visit Red Bell Run. Each equine gets the individual care they require and deserve. So many of the animals have histories that create mistrust, but with the caring environment, these animals are lucky to have found a wonderful place to live out their days.

I cannot adequately describe the heroic and generous rescues of The Sanctuary at Red Bell Run, where the near dead animals were taken in, rescued, and nursed back to health. The beautiful lives such animals then live at Red Bell Run are truly miraculous. I know of amazing rescues, and one of a little pony whose story of abuse was horrendous, and was too brutal to even describe. Her name is Willow, and she resides at the Red Bell Run where she has recovered, and where she lives a happy and beautiful life. It was not thought that Willow would survive, and there are many other animals who were rescued, taken in and nursed back to health at Red Bell Run. Many of us are forever grateful for this wonderful, caring and spectacular place where many rescued animals now reside.

This is a beautiful place run by large-hearted and knowledgeable individuals. I toured it on Saturday, and the owner, Mary, told me the background story of each donkey, mule, and horse. Most of these animals have experienced hardships that have left them scarred—physically and emotionally— but many of them are once again friendly and trusting because they’ve received good medical treatment and steadfast affection at the sanctuary. I also was delighted to discover that the sanctuary hosts reading events for children to encourage empathy and literacy. This is place is well run and well kept, a most civilized place I recommend to everyone of all ages.

I moved to the area from the coast of NC. I’ve always loved horses but didn’t have a lot of experience caring for them. I researched a few volunteer opportunities in the area and Red Bell stood out to me for a few reasons.
1. I’m an animal lover and treat my pets like family. They are not pets, they’re my kids. Every single soul at Red Bell has a name, a story, a personality, and something that makes them unique.
2. I’ve always rescued animals because they are so different from others. They have a story that may have been good or bad, I can’t change the past but I can change the future and give them a loving and caring home.
3. I suffer from PTSD and so have a lot of the equine here at Red Bell. I know what it’s like to feel hopeless and alone. Humans feel it and animals do too. I can understand how to be patient with them because it reminds me of how I want people to treat me.
4. Our past does not define our future but it makes us unique and special. Every equine here is different and requires certain care that many organizations just don’t have the time, finances, or energy to provide. Red Bell is the place where no matter the challenge, Mary will make things work. She will find a way!!!
5. After the tour, I had such an appreciation for the work that these people do every single day. Countless hours of care and dedication go into the process and it shows. The animals are happy, they are smiling with their personalities, and how can that not make you smile!
I’ve volunteered at a number of places in my past and nothing compares to the organization that this team provides.
Documenting your hours, progression in your volunteer abilities, clear direction, and safety was very important. As an HR Consultant, I was pleasantly surprised by the organization and attentiveness by the staff.
Tomorrow I will be getting my volunteer evaluation and a Red Bell t-shirt! I’m so excited and can’t wait to continue volunteering here!!

I 100% recommend volunteering at Red Bell and donating to this amazing organization.

I will continue to volunteer if I’m physically able and after that I’m happy to volunteer in the office or elsewhere as needed. I won’t stop unless they tell me to, or they get tired of me! :)
I LOVE RED BELL!!!

Red Bell Run Sanctuary is a blessing to all the residents there. It is a place where discarded and neglected equine find their forever home. Here they find medical attention, a healthy diet and an abundance of love!
I myself turned to Red Bell Run a few years ago. I found myself in a position where I was unable to care for my three mini donkeys. I reached out to Mary Adams, the founder of RBRS, and explained my situation. She didn't hesitate to help them and even traveled to Florida, where I live, to pick them up. I am eternally grateful knowing that they will always be loved and taken care of.
A few weeks ago I asked Mary if she would send me a picture of my little donkeys and as busy as she is, she did. Not just a phone photo but a beautiful picture of all.
It is a privilege to be associated with Red Bell Run and the incredible staff there.

A horse I knew was confiscated from a horrific starvation/neglect situation with 26 other equines and 17 goats. Zander, a Friesian, wound up at Red Bell Run. When I learned where he was, I asked if I could come see him and Red Bell Run graciously said yes.. I was given a tour of the entire sanctuary. What a peaceful and beautiful setting; what a dedicated, knowledgeable staff. Red Bell Run also has educational programs for kids like Reading with the Minis- children go into the mini barn and sit and read a book to the horses. Some of them-the horses- really seem to pay attention and like the reading. I have introduced several children to the programs and 2 are actually volunteers there now. This is me with beautiful Zander. I couldnt ask for a better place for him to be...

We recently discovered Red Bell Run by taking our granddaughter on a tour since she loves donkeys and horses. We were impressed with the love the staff and volunteers have for the animals. The sanctuary is so well kept and the animals all so healthy and safe.

I volunteer at Red Bell Run giving tours and helping in one of the barns. It’s difficult to put into words how in awe I am of the exceptional care and that each and every animal receives under the loving attention of Mary Adams and the whole staff and the volunteers.
It’s almost as if you can see the stress and tension from the life of abuse and neglect melt away from the equines that are given a lifelong sanctuary here.
It is an absolute honor and a joy to volunteer my tIme at Red Bell Run.

I have been a volunteer at Red Bell Run for over a year. I currently work at the mini horse barn, volunteer in the office as needed and assist with the children’s reading program. It is evident the mission and work of this equine rescue foundation is nothing short of amazing.

The effort made to rescue horses and donkeys, who often have had a difficult, inhumane life, is a true commitment believing that these animals deserve the best life possible. Many of these animals have suffered a lifetime of pain and neglect, some with unattended conditions that require love, diligence, strong medical care and maintenance. Some at risk equine are now given a tranquil and safe place to try to regain a comforting level of health for the remainder of their life.

This level of dedication to animal care requires a loving and caring team of employees and volunteers, multiple resources and an owner who treats both animals and team members as family. To see such animals return to their best life at this most beautiful and well- maintained sanctuary is truly rewarding. To gain the love and trust of these once broken animals is immeasurable. Love and hope are clearly in abundance here at Red Bell Run.

Red Bell Run is an equine rescue yet even more. Their aid and promotion to our local region, educational children’s reading programs, community participation, and support of equine owners and groups in the area is highly commendable.

As a volunteer, being a part of this rescue is life changing and healing of both animal and caregiver. It is time well spent restoring life, trust and love, one equine at a time, into a valued and beloved member here at Red Bell Run.

The Sanctuary at Red Bell Run is an amazing organization that I am grateful to be involved with. Volunteering is the highlight of my week, and it warms my heart to help take care of at risk equines so they can live out their best lives. Getting donkey smooches is just a bonus! Mary, the staff, and the volunteers all make RBR a special place!

Mary Adams and her staff at Red Bell Run Sanctuary do an amazing job of caring for about 150 very "special needs" horses, donkeys, mules and hinneys, all of whom were rescued from horrific circumstances. No expense is spared in seeing to their needs and the attention to detail is remarkable.
Having spent over 20 years in the animal rescue world, I can say with confidence that Red Bell Run is one of the most well-run sanctuaries in the United States and an exemplary role model for others to follow.

Red Bell Run is phenomenal! I visited in 2020 to see my dear lifelong friend from childhood Mary Adams. This place is heaven on earth for donkeys, horses, minis, and even dogs and cats! Her dedication along with local veterinary staff, volunteers and people from the community make a real difference. I can’t think of a better place to donate $$ to or volunteer for. They even have community events like students reading to the animals! Staff are treated like family.

I volunteer with the mini donkeys at Red Bell Run two days a week, and enjoy every shift I work. From the owner to the office staff to barn workers and groundskeepers and on-call veterinary staff, everyone is absolutely dedicated to making the lives of the equines who are placed here as healthy and carefree as possible. I have worked for and with several non-profit organizations over the years and find Red Bell Run to be truly mission-driven and successful at providing what they set out to provide: lifelong sanctuary for abused, neglected and at-risk equines. No matter what kind of life an animal had before it came to Red Bell Run--and many of the stories are difficult to hear--they are now living out their days in a beautiful, serene setting. RBR also has a community outreach component which offers a lot of on-and offsite events for kids and families. I'm happy to be a part of it.

I took a tour of the farm last weekend. They have 152 animals and I didn't see one piece of manure. I couldn't get over how clean the place was and how nice everyone was. They have done everything humanly possible to give these animals an amazing life filled with love. They all have huge pastures to go into and they are grouped according to their needs. They have a memorial garden for the animals that pass away. They love these animals like every animal lover loves their own animals.

I took the tour offered of the complete facility. The first thing I noticed was the beauty of the whole area-some beautiful buildings (a barndominium and the owner’s small home), rolling hills, forests, and acres of grass for the few horses at Red Bell. Most of the equines kept there are donkeys of all sizes, along with a few mules, horses, and mini-horses. I learned that the animals being cared for at Red Bell have problems that other facilities across the USA are not equipped or able to handle, and therefore sent the animals to Red Bell. I was happy to see the special care taken by Red Bell of all health/physical problems of their equine residents. There were many workers caring for the animals and it was evident those workers handled the animals with love.
During the tour I saw that every type of equine had areas to sleep, eat, and exercise/play that each needed. This included buildings for their protection.
It was a wonderful and uplifting visit.

I'd never visited the Sanctuary at Red Bull Run as an activity for my grandchildren when they came to visit us. They live in Orlando and are very used to high-level experiences. The Sanctuary exceeded my expectations. We all loved it!

The Sanctuary is run in an outstanding way: The animals are cared for by people who are knowledgeable and caring. The spaces for the animals are clean and well-organized. The Sanctuary is an outstanding example of a place where its charges are treated very well - making their days as pleasant as they can.

The Sanctuary at Red Bell Run is a fairly magical place that I find myself wishing I could just hang out at every day. The grounds are beautifully kept, the staff is friendly and clearly happy to be there, and the experience of seeing up close and meeting so many rescued animals is one that will stick with you for a long time. Learning of the mission of the sanctuary is awe-inspiring…. We want to go again!
