I love that in one day we can make such an impact. Keeping people in their homes, and safe.
I am very proud to work with Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley. Keep up the good work!
Great time, great people, and always a great learning experience! We volunteered for the first time, and we will do this again.
Worked with RTSV for 20 years. They help people who may not be able to help themselves as much as they have in the past. They take a dollar of donations and stretch it into $50 by using volunteer labor and donated goods from ordinary citizens and companies like Home Depot, Lowes and Orchard Hardware. They help people who are actual home owners that can not afford to maintain their homes, some living with no heat or hot water and/or unsafe conditions. RTSV helps them get back to a safe, warm and comfortable environment. These volunteers come from all backgrounds and strata of life but with one common purpose to help a struggling homeowner. It is amazing to see what 20 volunteers, some tools, supplies and a little work can do to help these people get to a better place. Never been so proud of a group of people in my life!
This group provides the opportunity to spend a Saturday helping people who really need it and really appreciate it to have a safer and easier time in their home environment. Meeting the people who you are helping is especially gratifying and I highly recommend the experience. I have been to every Rebuilding Day since my first and hooe to continue that going forward.
I have been volunteering as a photographer for Rebuilding Together, formerly Christmas In April, for 10 years. I truly believe its cause. On Rebuilding Days I see so much joy and gratitude on home owners' faces. Wonderful volunteers transform living spaces from undesirable to 'Wow!" You can see the photos right on the websites of RT's local chapters. If you have not volunteered for or donated to this great organization, I strongly encourage you to start.
We would like to thank you so much for the work that was done by Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley. We are very great full for putting on the new wider door. Now my husband has more room to enter with his wheelchair and more safe for him to go in &out. We thank you again !
Rebuilding Together SV not only provides needed services for the community but builds a "family" atmosphere with the staff and volunteers. I work as a volunteer for two other NGOs, and RBT-SV ranks number one. If you read the letters of appreciation posted at the office, the comments from the homeowners tells it all. Seeing the happy homeowners and getting to know them is priceless.
Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley helped me put the pieces of my life back together. I was fortunate enough to be chosen by them in conjunction with a program of The City of Campbell, to become a recipient of their assistance. They arranged for trees to be cut off of my roof so that I could receive a new roof and also remove and relocate the huge bee-colony which had been embedded in my roof rafters for years. Rebuilding Together provided me with a huge dumpster so that I could clean and remove debris from my yard and provided me with a fantastic company to paint the exterior of my house, which hadn't been done in decades! Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley assisted me every step of the way while I was having work done on my house and provided me with a real sense of security because I knew that I could call on them personally to help me with any questions I had and to make arrangements for work to be done. Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley always sent professional and competent workers who respected my property and me and it was a pleasure to work with them! I needed to have major work done on my property for health and safety reasons and I can't believe how lucky I was to receive the wonderful benefits of Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley. I will forever be thankful for that!
After retirement I felt I needed a work-like structure and schedule to
keep me active and to give back to my community. I do volunteer work
with 3 local non-profits as well as donate to my favorite charities. That
said my weekly gig with Rebuilding Together is by far the most fulfilling
volunteer work I do. I not only feel good about the work we do helping
senior and disabled homeowners live safer and more comfortable lives,
I am learning best construction practices at the same time...a win-win
combination that's hard to beat. Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley is the
best, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone who wants to help others
while learning valuable home repair skills at the same time.
Rebuilding Together does a great service to the Silicon Valley. Each week a group of male and female workers gather at a house that needs repairs to enable the homeowner to live safer, more comfortable, and be less reliant on needing other people to help her move about. We do everything from putting in CFL lightbulbs and insulating the hot water pipes to installing grab bars and in some cases ramps. The most memorable project I worked on was installing a ramp for a lady so she could use her wheelchair to get into her yard. She said she had not been out of her house for two years, and her enjoyment in now being to move about was overwhelming.
Rebuilding Together is GREAT. They had a "fix it day" at my Mom's senior mobile home park. They spent the day helping seniors painting and fixing any handyman projects that each one had.
When my elderly Mother broke her leg, we need a lift because she could not climb the stairs and could not afford one. We applied with Rebuilding Together and within a very short time a lift WAS installed at no charge. The agreement we signed stated that when she was done using the lift, we need to return it to them.
When my Mother passed away, I called Rebuilding Together. They came out to the home, removed the lift and replaced the stair. THEY WERE GREAT!
THANKS REBUILDING TOGETHER FOR GETTING US THROUGH THOSE TRYING TIMES.
The concrete stairs to my back door were an accident waiting to happen. There was only one rickety railing on one side. The steps were uneven in height (rise) and depth (tread), and the highest ones were hard to climb since they were quite a bit higher than standard.
Volunteers from Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley came to my house one day and fixed the problem. I had been afraid that the concrete would need to be removed, but they were able to create new steps with even tread and rise over the concrete with lumber. They installed solid wrought iron railings. And they built a shelf on the side of the steps that I can use to put the groceries on when I'm unloading the car. That saves me from having to lug the bags up the stairs.
Inside the house, they installed a grab bar in the bathroom, CO2 detector and smoke detectors.
What a nice bunch of competent volunteers! I couldn't be more pleased at the way they did their jobs. Love this program.
When I became disabled and wheelchair and home-bound in 2006, I had no way to afford a ramp to get into and out of my home. A dear friend told me about RTSV, and I promptly applied thinking it would take forever, and I wasn't sure I would qualify. Within a few months, I was selected and my ramp installed. I was thrilled to know that I could safely and easily get into and out of my home with the RTSV ramp. The volunteers where so warm and helpful, and they installed the ramp with such professionalism and kindness in just a few hours one morning. I will forever be grateful for the biggest contribution to my ability to live a much less confined life because of RTSV.
On most Thursdays you can find a group of dedicated folks -- men and women -- working as handypersons on an elderly or disabled person's home. We do repairs that help enable people to stay in their homes. These repairs include half-steps, grab bars, safety repairs to bathrooms and kitchens. The comraderie between the volunteers is great, and we get a lot done. It is fun, and the homeowners are generally extremely appreciative.
Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley is the best non-profit organization I have ever had the pleasure of serving alongside. Their personal approach both with volunteers and the homeowners they serve brings a sense of community to the million person city in which we reside. I have volunteered in many capacities over the years, from swinging a hammer during their biannual Rebuilding Days, to doing office work in the "off-season" and every experience has shown me that I can really make an impact in my community. The combined expertise of the staff exceeds any organization I've worked with, and the homeowners we serve are among the best. Another volunteer once said "Rebuilding Together is good people at their best" and I agree- the work they do makes people reach their fullest potential helping their neighbors.
