Mission: Rebuilding together works to preserve homeownership and housing affordability for hundreds of low-income seniors, veterans, disabled, and families that cannot afford to make critical home repairs on their own. Our goal is to leverage government, civic groups, faith communities, and corporations to work together to not only improve the homes and lives of our clients, but the community as well.
Programs: Critical home repairs - most people who call rebuilding together for help have at least one critical repair needed to their home that presents a health and/or safety risk. Often the complexity of these repairs is beyond the skill or availability of the average volunteer. Therefore, rebuilding together recruits, screens, and manages reputable local contractors who make repairs to roofs, electrical systems, plumbing, furnaces and boilers, ramps, and flooring. Funding for these projects typically is through local community governments including the city of akron, the county of summit, and the city of canton.
volunteer events - our volunteer events, including our annual rebuilding day, kent senior service day, and veterans service day, provided excellent opportunities for volunteers of all backgrounds to participate in the tremendous work of rebuilding together. These "done-in-a-day" projects provided a chance for churches, civic groups, and corporations of all sizes to have a fun and rewarding team-building experience. This year, we conducted 12 volunteers days with more than 30 volunteer groups participating in akron, green, barberton, kent, wadsworth, and canton. 460 volunteers from corporations, civic groups, and churches contributed more than $60,000 in donated skilled and unskilled labor performing free furnace checks, modifying homes to make them safer, and completing a wide range of plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs.
professional services - rebuilding together provides it's experience and expertise daily to assist other agencies and programs within our service area and beyond. By providing project specifications and program design information to partners, we are able to significantly expand our missional reach without expanding our primary footprint. During this program year, rebuilding together provided this experience for 220 client referrals on behalf of local agencies on aging and mycare ohio partners in 13 northeast ohio counties.
home modifications - by providing items such as smoke and co detectors, handrails, grab bars, ada toilets, lever type door handles, door locks, step repair, visible house numbers, motion sensor lights, and other items, we are able to improve the safety and independence of the homeowner.
