I had the great pleasure of serving on the board of Rebuilding Together Arlington/Fairfax/Falls Church for six years. During that time, I witnessed first hand the incredibly deep impact this organization has on the people and communities it serves. It truly changes people’s lives every day by helping ensure they are able to live full, healthy, and safe lives in their homes. They do an incredible job maximizing every dollar they receive by utilizing a largely volunteer-driven service model. The staff are incredible and are deeply dedicated to the people they serve. While my board service with this organization has come to a close, I remain a steadfast supporter of their work.

Rebuilding Together Arlington/Fairfax/Falls Church (RT-AFF) is an amazing organization that does incredible work helping out homeowners in need in our community. I have been on the Board of RT-AFF for the past three years, and have been fortunate enough to witness the incredible, positive effect that the organization's work has on the lives of our neighbors. Whether they are organizing a large volunteer group to make significant repairs and modifications to a home on National Rebuilding Day, or making many small but critical home safety repairs through the RT Express program, they change the lives of their clients and help restore dignity and pride. I am so proud to be affiliated with this organization and to have the opportunity to help them achieve even more.

05/10/2022Good afternoon everyone, my name is Davon Hopkins of Annandale, VA . I would like to first say I'm still currently patently waiting for a response to many topics I feel need addressed. First topic on my list are hate crimes and improper facial surveillance in Northern Virginia. I say Northern Virginia is because I was able to pinpoint the cameras that put everyone's human rights at risk. Secondly the racial and minority tracking , casing, or monitoring what every you like to call it . It's a direct violation as US citizens, and I'm here to make sure all matters get addressed and handled the correct way. I will also answer your questions of why and how am I so confident in what I say, that's because its happening to me as we speak .

I can be reached at - Davon.Hopkins@snhu.edu or direct contact 571-331-5470

When calling please respond by addressing your name & position within this great non profit, how you can help or relate with what I'm currently facing in America. Thank you and God bless everyone

My first contact with Rebuilding Together was in April of 2019 and was only the beginning of a rewarding experience for which I am very fortunate and grateful. After a wave of bad luck having bedbugs and losing my furniture, being laid off and having expensive plumbing repairs, I was referred to this wonderful organization but I never expected anything like what would come next. The volunteers who came to my home went right to work, removing old carpeting and a ceiling fanin the dining area they replaced with an overhead light, repairing the kitchen floor and replacing the tiles, installing a new overhead light in the kitchen as well as a new faucet, repairing a broken closet door and installing a grab bar in the shower . The volunteers who were of all ages, were led by Mark H; both he and they were incredibly nice as they worked cheerfully in a team like manner . I left the apartment to stay out of their way and came back to find. my surroundings transformed into a beautiful new home that even included new carpeting! Seeing the changes gave me a new outlook on life I never expected . What a difference Rebuilding Together made and it was done in such a caring and respectful way. Who could ask for more and yet there was more to come. Not long after the transformation; Mark H made a trek to my home with a new full size bed to replace the one I had lost to bed bugs. He carried the bed and the box spring up the 3 flights of stairs to my apartment and put it together. For the first time in over 2 years since losing my bed to the bedbugs and sleeping on an air mattress, I had a comfortable bed to sleep in. It felt like I had won the lottery! And even after all that Rebuilding Together was still working to make my apartment into a home again. Don Ryan stayed in touch with me during the lockdown to keep me informed of the status of some furniture to replace to replace what was lost to the bedbugs. Last Saturday, he and Mark H delivered 2 beautiful leather chairs and a floor lamp, hauling it up the 3 flights in the scorching summer heat so that my son and I could be more comfortable in our living room. There are no words that could adequately express my appreciation to Rebuilding Together. This organization and its leadership and volunteers are life changers and I am so thankful for their help to us that really went above and beyond anything I ever would have expected!

I volunteered for Rebuilding Together Day in April of 2019 and was truly inspired by the experience. I loved that there was volunteers of all ages and both men and women. The couple we helped were so appreciative and their neighbors also stopped by the ask more about the organization and say how happy they were we were making a difference to the couple’s lives.

Rebuilding Together assessed tripping and safety hazards in my 90 year old mother's home in Arlington. They installed a 2nd hand rail inside going downstairs, secured a wobbly handrail outside, and installed grab bars in her bathroom. She feels much more secure and safe in her own home now. The volunteers were professional, friendly and considerate of my mother's needs. The work was done quickly with no mess - they cleaned up after themselves too!

Our organization had a great time volunteering with RT-AFF. Communication and planning was simple, and easy. The whole group enjoyed ourselves.

Over the last several years I have supported Rebuilding Together and participated in both large and small renovation projects. I have been very impressed by their commitment to helping the ill and elderly to stay in their homes, and even more taken by how much these homeowners have appreciated the work done for them. Living in Northern Virginia, which is overall very affluent, it is easy to forget that there are many, many people who are either too frail, too ill, or too poor -- or all three -- to be able to easily maintain their homes. The improvements Rebuilding Together does sometime seem small, but they often make the difference in whether these residents can stay in their homws.

I am grateful to have found this organization that helps people stay in their homes. Volunteering for this group is very rewarding. Rebuilding Together AFF is the perfect vehicle for me to give back to my community with my knack for fixing things. Even with limited skills, I have volunteered for several years and have seen wonderful results at each project. It is a great group of dedicated people who help assure safe and healthy housing for those that need help the most.

I’m a local contractor and have been volunteering for multiple projects over the past few years. I find the organization and it’s employees a pleasure to deal with, and the clients they serve very grateful. This has been very enlightening as far as seeing others in need, and how kind-hearted volunteers step up to help when and where they can. This non-profit brings out the best in people, and has been a heartwarming experience for me personally.

I have been a volunteer and donor to this organization for more than 10 years. It is amazing how much need exists for basic home repair. RT-AFF makes simple repairs such as installing a grab bar or railing to more involved work such as addressing drainage issues or installing a ramp. It is a totally positive experience to work with the volunteers from RT-AFF (both experienced and novices) and a blessing for the homeowners who could not to make the repairs on their own.

I've volunteered with this organization since 1989. It is such a rewarding experience. The staff is responsive and works hard to leverage every dollar they receive in donations/grants. The volunteers are friendly and knowledgeable. I've learned how to do a lot of repairs on my own home, too! The single most important thing is this: RT-AFF gives me the ability to help people live in safety and dignity. With just a few hours of my time I help a team change peoples' lives for the better. It makes my heart happy to make someone's life a bit easier.

Love Rebuilding Together AFF! Every April, we participate in a rebuilding project with our church. It is so well organized and someone from the staff stops by to check on us! They are great to work with and help underserved families in our community!
