My family is all hands on deck when it comes to the Reading Ready Pittsburgh Program! The excitement when they receive their bag of books — to have reading time! Enjoying adventures, learning new stories, relating to the characters. It give them a chance to open up to me — and tell me of a time when they were happy, wishful, sad… We are all learning together with the Reading Ready Pittsburgh Program. The bond it’s created is magical and we are grateful to have it continue to bring new journey’s on bright pages our way.

It has been inspirational to see a relatively new organization such as Reading Ready Pittsburgh have such significant impact . Working with families and young children, RRP addresses the importance of early childhood literacy, especially helping working parents learn how to engage their young ones in reading. Innovative projects such as reading centers in laundromats enables parents and children to read in what would otherwise be lost time. The distribution book bags gives every family the opportunity to find enjoyment in reading together. The benefits for these children are -- and will be -- enormous.

Reading Ready Pittsburgh has greatly improved our relationships with local daycares in the area. Their volunteer readers were a HUGE hit pre covid era. Their reach is expanding with great programs such as the Ready to Read and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. I am so thankful to have this group promote reading in our area.

We are absolutely pleased with our partnership with Ready Reading Pittsburgh. They are in the process of building a free library as well as a reading nook for the children at our community center. We also plan to partner up with them on introducing an early literacy program to the mothers and their infants/ toddlers of our community. The staff are very friendly, easy going, and overall a great help. They are so caring and so eager to help give back to those in need . 10/10 would recommend !!!!

Our program has had such a great experience with Raising a Reader. We have been able to offer these fabulous book bags to parents that typically would not be purchasing these books for their children. We have parents that truly look forward to new books every week and tell us stories of the interaction they have with their children during reading times. We have had several parents that openly admitted that before this they have never read to their children at home. Because of this program and the wonderful women that operate this program reading and its importance is being reintroduced to families in early learning centers and educating parents on the importance of reading. We have such a wonderful reader Mary that comes to our center regularly, the children now recognize her and you can just see the excitement when she walks into the classroom. Her energy and passion for what she does is amazing. We are proud to be a part of such a great organization.

Angels’ Place centers on the North Side and in Swissvale are so pleased to be a part of the Raising a Reader program provided by Reading Ready Pittsburgh. Raising a Reader provides our parents the opportunity to take part in a weekly book lending program, encouraging them to read books daily to their children. Our parents have embraced this opportunity and rave about the program. The children also enjoy being a part and look forward to receiving their new bag of books each week. The teachers switch the books weekly and shared that it has also really enhanced literacy in our environment. We are so excited to have this partnership and hope it will continue in the future, allowing our families to continue benefiting from this amazing program.

Reading Ready Pittsburgh is a great organization that gives all children access to developmentally appropriate books. Reading to children is crucial for their language, social, and emotional development. As a non-profit organization it is fabulous to collaborate with another organization that values our same beliefs on child development.

I met the founder of Reading Ready Pittsburgh in the Fall of 2018. Mary accepts the research that demonstrates that it is essential to read to and otherwise use language with children under 4 years of age, or their brains will not develop the capacity necessary to maximize their potential. Reading Ready Pittsburgh's mission is to train parents and caregivers to enlist them in reading to their small children, It sounds simple enough but it takes passion and lots of volunteer effort. Both can be found in RRP.
