Reach community development allows my ex husband to sale drugs house the families that are currently robbing me and withheld footage from February 11 of the crime conspiracy to commit murder and fraud. I have proof. Manager tells my ex husband everything that goes on in court. Yes I'm suing them, because if they would have provided the evidence to proved where and how and who from the incident they would have been put away. Instead they offered me 1500 dollars to be quiet about it. My life. My boy's. Letting the 3 families currently residing in the building to be free. $1500. I'm in tears now.......no way!
Unfortunately REACH isn't the non-profit they set out to be. Building neglect is rampant. They do the bare minimum to patch things until the next time they break.
In one building the water is shut off at least twice a month without notice to the tenants because of plumbing issues. They do not do maintenance on the apartments if they're occupied unless it is absolutely necessary. When tenants have concerns about the state of their property they are ignored. Work orders consist on one page that tenants submit to the office there's no.digital option or paper trail once submitted. They receive massive amounts of tax subsidies yet buildings are falling apart, ceilings are collapsing in older buildings and water pressure and heat are sub par. One building doesn't have working heaters in over half of the units. When code violations are brought to management attention they are ignored and dismissed.
The rate of manager turnover is astronomical. One property didn't have a manager for almost 2 years (and that wasn't during the lockdown). When they do get managers that care about the tenants mysteriously those managers are let go and then buildings go unmanaged with no maintenance for months. In one building. the elevator was broken for a week causing the disabled residents to be stuck in their apartments during a heatwave. The front door of the same building wouldn't open for a week from the inside causing a fire hazard. They neglect to update any of the apartments yet continue to raise rent when they turn units over and yearly on current tenants. Yes, they do provide "affordable" housing...but is it really affordable if people pass away in units during heat waves and flies infest a building and tenants aren't told? Or if the appliances are so old that they cause a fire hazard? Or if they endanger their tenants by neglecting regular upkeep on the apartments?
Hopefully these reviews will be a wake up call and they'll get their act together. Until then I'm donating my funds elsewhere.
I have volunteered with REACH off and on for years. I have never seen anyone in management be anything but selfless and totally focused on the mission. Recent law suits have all been brought by one attorney who likes to scare nonprofits into settlements and who tips off the newspapers before even telling the non-profits that he is suing them. This is a hard space to work in and REACH is a very valuable and well-run organization.
10+ people have died in just one of Reach's buildings in the last few years. No one looks into it, because they are the poor, the old, the disabled, the people no one cares about, or will miss. Reach is being sued by elderly tenants who organized formed a union to demand basic living conditions.
Reach is a company of multi millionaire slum lords, using a non profit as a tax shelter.
Tenant death insurance, rent insurance , renovation insurance for leaving dead bodies to rot in the buildings, is part of their for profit business plan. They are criminals. Last year they let a 56 year old man die from the heat in his apartment. Half of the people who live in this slum die every year. No one cares. They get credit for "helping" with the homeless population, but sleeping outside is not as bad as these slums.
The slumlords here are criminals. They kill by neglect, and malintent to profit from the insurance, on dead tenants.Malintent- An act performed with the intention of doing some act which is not authorized or illegal.

Review from Guidestar
This company allows its tenants to threaten its neighbors without repercussion. We own our home and one of their tenants charged at my home and threatened my family. I asked the landlord to speak with the tenant and they ignored me. Later I learned that this person is also harassing other neighbors and creating an environment that is unnerving and hostile. REACH has ignored my emails and continue to ignore other neighbors. I am in support of companies trying to help another person find stable housing, but at what point is REACH expected to keep Home owners and neighbors safe? When do their tenants have expectations to create and maintain a safe community? They are ruining my neighborhood.
I am commenting on behalf of a a young woman whose manager did not allow a co-tenant attend a meeting about their tenancy , ordered another manager to leave so “they could have privacy” (what for?) went to the the front door and flipped the open sign from open to closed, shut the blinds, made sure the lights were out, locked the door and put the keys in his pocket then informed
My friend “that is so
We aren’t interrupted. Is there any person that could provide a single (not science fiction)explanation other than what we all know this man expected my friend to do before he would unlock the door. Fortunately for her her repeated demands worked and he eventually let her go
So after he was served with an elder person/ disabled person restraining order they again They made the choice to have him work more hours on site instead of temporarily reassigning him to another property. Please can someone tell me why
Sadly, REACH has taken on a fully corporate personality. They protect their executives and management at the expense of their tenants. They keep their well healed foot on the throat of the housing insecure. Double sadly, management perpetuates their own paid positions by bribing politicians through campaign contributions.
REACH has been building communities through three key programs in Portland, Oregon for 27 years. They preserve and maintain affordable housing, provide services to support and educate their residents, and provide free home repairs to homeowners who need help due to age, disability and low income. I have volunteered with REACH for several years now and each time I learn of a new, amazing thing they have done for our community.
