Mission: The rare cancer research foundation is dedicated to curing rare cancers through strategic investments and collaborations that catalyze effective research and accelerate deployment of promising therapies.
Programs: The purpose of this program is to the increase the number of rare cancer cell lines available for use in cancer research and to identify and develop new treatments for rare cancer patients building from positive indications from new rare cancer cell lines. The organization administers a grant program called the "cell line prize program" the purpose of which is to present research foundations with a low-cost, pay-for-success model to fund the creation of a critical piece of cancer research infrastructure, the cell line. Cell lines are a crucial starting point for testing new drugs and therapies. Unfortunately, for researchers of rare cancers, either there are no cell lines to use in their research or the only cell lines that exist are not publicly available. The cell line prize program incents the creation and sharing of cell lines that can enable and accelerate research.
