Mission: Rappcats is a private, non-profit organization that rescues, cares for, and finds loving homes for abandoned, abused, neglected, injured and homeless cats and kittens in rappahannock county, virginia. It is supported entirely through private contributions. We operate the rappcats adoption center, a cage-less, no-kill facility that is the only state-approved cat shelter in rappahannock county. In addition, we work closely with the community to reduce cat overpopulation through our spay/neuter program, which provides residents with low and no cost spay and neutering services. Also, we provide family assistance to residents unable to pay veterinary bills.
Target demographics: homeless and stray cats, and our county residents.
Geographic areas served: rural Virginia
Programs: Rappahannock county is a small rural county, with fewer than 8,000 inhabitants. The county government does not fund a cat shelter (only a dog shelter). The RappCats adoption center, a private no-kill and cage-free shelter, acts as a de facto shelter for the county and is the only Virginia approved-cat shelter in the county.
Our shelter is comprised of an isolation room for contagious cats, an intake area for new arrivals, and 5 rooms in our main shelter area. Our cats are able to look out (and sit in) windows. They can run around & climb, which provides both physical and mental stimulation and health. They are each seen by a vet and treated for any illnesses or injuries prior to adoption.
To help reduce the homeless cat population, RappCats also provides no-cost and low-cost spaying and neutering to our county residents. The program pays, in whole or in part, the veterinary bills for cats owned by Rappahannock County residents. In many cases, this allows residents, who are willing to care for homeless cats and kittens that have arrived on their property, to pay for necessary medical treatment and vaccinations for their cats.
These guys are wonderfull. They take care of so many cats that and they also are sure that there is always a match between the adopters and the cats. Wonderfull
Great organization doing wonderful things in a rural community. They assisted my wife and I in capturing a stray 8 years ago. That cat has been with us since then and is a loved member of our family.

My first click of the day is RappCats, what kind & empathetic people they are. Every cat is an individual & has their own care plan in accordance with their needs. Respect to all the staff & volunteers, including the many foster carers, who open their homes to so many kittens & special needs cats.
Love this organization! It just keeps getting better and better, too. I love to follow and donate even though I am several states away. They are top notch!
I love this cat rescue! I am a regular donator. They are so good at working with the cats and earning the trust of the cats. They do a great job pairing cats together based on personalities. And they work hard to pair up cats and potential adopters.
Great volunteers who really care about the cats and kittens. They socialize them well and make sure they are healthy. Their cats are friendly and gorgeous. We adopted two of them!!
