Programs: Intellectual Disability Supports Coordination This program is uniquely designed for children and adults diagnosed with an Intellectual disability and/or Autism. Supports Coordinators focus on locating, coordinating, and monitoring a broad range of services and resources to enhance their quality of life so they may live an “everyday life.” We advocate for the social, health, safety, and emotional needs of the individuals we serve while assisting the family and caregivers in navigating the social service system. We recognize that each individual and family has their own distinctive needs and dreams, and we work closely with families, caregivers, and community organizations to ensure personalized support that meets individual needs and goals. We encourage community empowerment, independence, and inclusion by fostering strong relationships. Through ongoing assessment and collaboration, we strive to offer the most effective strategies and resources that promote personal growth, social connection, and well-being. These services are provided under fee-for-service contracts with the Pennsylvania Office of Developmental Programs and the Allegheny County Department of Human Services. Seniors on the Move ~ Our Seniors on the Move program offers activities and services to keep individuals age 60 and over active and independent within their communities. By fostering an environment rich in social interaction, recreational activities, educational opportunities, and health and wellness programs, we strive to support our seniors in leading vibrant, fulfilling lives. Three days each week (currently Monday, Tuesday and Thursday), participants can enjoy a nutritious and freshly prepared lunch, which serves as a meal and an opportunity for further social engagement. Our diverse array of activities is designed to cater to a wide range of interests and abilities, ensuring that there is something for everyone to enjoy. Artistic souls can explore their creativity through our art classes, while those with a competitive spirit might find delight in the lively rounds of bingo. Book lovers can delve into captivating discussions in our book club, offering a platform for shared insights and literary exploration. For those interested in keeping up with the digital age, our computer skills classes provide valuable knowledge to navigate today's technology confidently. Our exercise programs promote physical health, featuring activities from gentle stretching to more dynamic options. This also serves as a fun way to stay active and socialize. Our program director provides relevant senior information and referrals to outside partners. We partner with several healthcare providers to educate and advise our seniors on important senior-focused health topics. We've launched an “Ask a Nurse” program that connects seniors with a familiar registered nurse (RN). Having an RN check in regularly, especially for seniors who might be isolated, can make a significant positive impact on their health and well-being. It provides a sense of connection and security, knowing there's someone to talk to about medication, health issues, or simply to have a friendly chat with. This approach not only addresses physical health but also supports mental and emotional well-being by reducing feelings of loneliness. This service benefits seniors living alone with minimal interaction beyond our program. We are continuously expanding our program offerings based on the feedback and interests of our participants, ensuring that our seniors remain 'on the move' and engaged, empowered, and enriched.
