This nonprofit does great work. They are focused on health and they support a lot of projects that help low income families and provide opportunities they would not otherwise have.
i wish more agencies did what they do. They help programs with great ideas around health get off the ground. Very cool.
My experience with this nonprofit has always been excellent. Their WIC program is the best in the country. I know families that have survived because of this program and now they are getting into helping the kids that come to WIC read. I hope they keep growing!
PHFE is one of those rare organizations that has a nonprofit mission but the size and smarts of a private firm. The agency is adapting to the changes in both public health and technology in interesting ways. Surely a nonprofit to watch.
PHFE is so impressive. They are involved in so many areas of public health and even education. They work both on the front lines and also in the background. I am a huge fan.
What an amazing organization to help bridge the gap and truly give kids and families a fighting chance at success! Education and Healthcare is a privilege for everyone - not only the elite.
Public Health Foundation Enterprises, Inc. has been InDependent's fiscal sponsor for two years. They provide us administrative support and 501c3 certification. They are very professional and easy to work with. I would recommend them to anyone interested in their services.
PHFE is an organization which has amazing impact in addressing pressing needs of our community, from its role in serving the WIC program to its active involvement in the “Little by Little” program which addresses school readiness challenges in children. In addition, PHFE serves a key role in enabling other organizations to succeed and have impact by providing fiscal sponsorship. All of this is enabled and executed by the impressive leadership and staff of incredibly committed and talented individuals who strive to make a difference. I am proud to be part of this organization that lives its values and actively serves its mission.
PHFE creates solutions for our communities to improve health in challenging funding and regulatory environments. As a board member, I have been continually impressed by the dedication, professionalism, and collaboration of PHFE staff to help organizations meet their mission to improve the public's health.
PHFE continues to provide the highest quality administrative support to population health organizations throughout the United States. Its expanding list of clients and low cost structure are a testament to management's professionalism.

PHFE is a unique organization in that it provides high quality administrative support critical to grant recipients to ensure compliance with grant objectives. As a non-profit, PHFE's services are lower cost than alternatives. Thus, more grant money is available to achieve grant objectives and grant recipients can spend time on what they're truly great at and not worry about administrative details.
I joined PHFE's Board in January 2013 and have seen its innovative approach and committed staff achieve impressive results on a variety of public health issues. I'm proud to be part of an organization that is active in so many critical health areas, such as nutrition, education, and HIV. New programs, such as Little by Little, represent exactly the type of creative initiatives that reflect the dynamism and vision of PHFE.
The reason I've been a Board Member of PHFE for the past 9 years is because of its commitment to serving the public good -- from serving over 300,000 women and children in Los Angeles County's WIC program to the innovative Little by Little literacy program for that very same group. I couldn't ask for better colleagues on the Board of Directors, and I am extremely excited for the future with Dr. Blayne Cutler joining as our new CEO. We are going to be bringing our unique set of services nationally. So stay tuned!
I have been serving on the PHFE Board for a little over a year, and I can say it is one of the best experiences of my nearly 20 year career in public health practice. What we do in government is always challenging especially in these days of emergency response and budget cuts (at the same time!), and it's important to me as a Board Member that PHFE operate and deliver what I would want if I were the client. The transformation in the organization with a new CEO has been amazing, and I can honestly say that everyone I have worked with personally over the last year is focused on keeping PHFE on its path to become a great organization.
PHFE continues to inspire me... While I serve as a board member (as such, I'm cognizant that I come equipped with a certain measure of bias), I nonetheless continue to be blown away by PHFE's capacity to impact so many nonprofit public health programs (large or, most critically, small); giving them the ability to simply execute on their respective mission(s). PHFE exists as this "behind the scenes" partner - receives none of the fanfare, yet makes it so each and every public health program maximizes it's efficacy. Thus, PHFE is an unsung hero in a veritable sea programs - saving valuable resources of same in order to be able to help ever more people, and concomitantly improve the health of the community. While it might not be glamorous, there is no denying it's impact.
Any organization that provides outstanding public health services requires an equally outstanding infrastructure that allows it to deliver those services. PHFE excels at providing this infrastructure to organizations both large and small so they can focus on their main task of improving health and quality of life.
I have become connected to PHFE WIC through their Little by Little (LBL) School Readiness Program. I have very much been impressed with the dedication and professionalism of the PHFE WIC team working on LBL in both the delivery of the program but also in terms of thinking about long term sustainability issues and capacity building of local WIC agencies. I very much hope to continue working along side the PHFE WIC team so that I may too contribute to the success of this critical School Readiness Program.
I was a recipient of the PHFE-WIC program in Los Angeles; it gave me a great start on life and I now want to ensure PHFE can provide similar programs in the future to others to give them the same great start I got! Thank you PHFE-WIC!
Agility and nimbleness is what I love about PHFE. This organization is responsive and understands what it takes to be successful when facilitating the outcomes of important programs. Working to reduce disparities in communities through collaboration and training; and working to improve programs that support children's success are both huge reasons to me why they are a great nonprofit!
PHFE is a catalyst for bringing organizations and researchers together that would not otherwise be able to make coalitions and partnerships work. It's really an amazing organization!
It has truly been a pleasure, honor and privilege being part of PHFE’s Little by Little School Readiness Program.
Over the course of my career I have worked with many nonprofits, including the American Red Cross, ACLU, UNHCR, Children’s Wish and others. Yet Little by Little has carved out a special place in my heart for a number of reasons.
For one, I have been especially impressed by the credentials, dedication and passion of the staff, all of whom work tirelessly to keep the mission of the program front and center: facilitating home literacy for the long-term success of families, children and greater society.
But I am also proud to be associated with Little by Little because it—
- Leverages an already well-established and highly successful program: California WIC
- Differentiates itself from similar programs by dint of the fact it has been statistically proven to work
- Reaches and helps a shockingly large but much underserved segment of the population
- Boasts a smart growth strategy aimed at bringing the benefits of the program to more people, while preserving essential quality and integrity
It is my sincere wish to continue being a trusted advisor to PHFE and contributor to the success of the Little by Little School Readiness Program.
By providing fiscal sponsorship and a range of other administrative support services PHFE enables others - non-profits, government entities, academic institutions, etc. - to more sharply focus their skills and assets to the provision of services and the conduct of research that contribute to the improvement of health and well being for the population. PHFE has tremendous experience, skills and assets across these fiscal management and administrative service areas not typically found in the types of organizations served.
My relationship with the non-profit sector dates back to 1981 and I have served as staff member, volunteer and/or consultant to more than 50 arts and social service agencies. When I was introduced to PHFE for the first time I really noticed a difference - staff and board are united around doing the greater good together and I was immediately welcomed onto the team. I am grateful to have had the experience.
I have been associated with PHFE for more than 20 years first as a client, then as a Board member and past Board Chair. My initial contact was when I was employed by the California Department of Public Health as a medical officer in the State Viral and Rickettsial Disease Laboratory. With the advent of HIV/AIDS, there were a large number of funding opportunities from CDC and NIH for everything from basic research to enhancing diagnostic capability. Due to restrictive personnel and acquisition policies, the State did not have a mechanism to receive such grants and execute them in a timely matter. By word of mouth, we discovered PHFE which was created to solve this situation. It has subsequently served as the fiscal sponsor for numerous projects over more than 20 years at several million dollars per year. Examples include the San Francisco Men’s Health Study, laboratory services for the HIV vaccine network, the Arbovirus Surveillance project, and the Enhanced Laboratory Capacity and Emerging Infections program grants from CDC. Without PHFE, we would never have been able to conduct this work. PHFE services could not have been better, with the ability to hire people rapidly and flexibly, purchase supplies and quickly execute subcontracts as needed. This partnership made the CDPH a thought leader in viral diagnostics and emerging infections which continue to this day. I am proud to have been associated with such a fine organization.
I have been involved with public health for several decades. In my view, PHFE is an organization that defines the essence of working to protecting the public's health. What PHFE does successfully is to work with clients to ensure that the client organization's administrative and programatic needs are paramount, allowing the client organization to focus on achieving its mission. At a time when many public health-related programs are facing resources constraints, PHFE's dedicated staff helps its clients provide efficient and effective service delivery. Thus, PHFE facilitates the ability of public health programs to have a broad and positive impact improving the health of millions of Americans.
I have had the fortune to be affiliated with many wonderful organizations that serve the community through public health, the performing arts, education and literacy, etc. PHFE stands out in my mind as one of the most impressive of these organizations for numerous reasons. They are uniquely positioned to have a huge impact on the communities we serve in so many beneficial ways. The organization's leadership and staff truly embody the values of service, respect, and professionalism. They truly strive to help organizations, researchers, and other community agencies fulfill their greatest potential. As a board member and donor, they have done this for me as well!
I am very impressed with the good work done by PHFE in the greater Los Angeles community. My experience is with their Little by Little WIC program, a successful program where parents receive literacy coaching and materials for their children 0-5 when they come to a WIC site. This is a solid program with a proven track record now attracting funding to become sustainable.
The professionalism of the leadership and program staff is amazing. They are extremely dedicated professionals. It is a pleasure to work with them and to be part of the effort to grow this particular program's ability to sustain itself.
As a PHFE donor, I feel like I can have an enormously broad impact on hundreds of public health programs at once. But I can also give to individual programs like Little by Little that themselves impact tens of thousands of children with literacy and school readiness programming delivered through PHFE WIC centers. I really feel like they care and are eager to help me make a difference!
