Counter Productions under the direction of Susan Grilli has given to the lower cape community quality theatre. The history of theatre in Provincetown with the work of Tennessee Williams up to the present has been a special treasure in our small artistic town. Counter Productions has been a precious part of this treasure. Three years ago, at the ripe old age of 63.. I was in my very first theatre performance. It opened my eyes to an amazing world where the words of a play writer come to life. A director takes these words using actors, scenery, lights and sound and creates magic. This is what CP and Susan do best ..make quality theatre come to life for our community..after being in six plays my world has certainly changed: i have many new friends, gained confidence, and learned so much about this craft. I urge everyone to support Counter Productions so young and old can appreciate this art and Provincetown can maintain its treasure.
I volunteered with Counter Productions a few years ago, and I accidentally ended up with a job! It has been a wonderful experience to work with Susan Grilli, the founding artistic director, and with all of the amazing actors and fellow crew members. I'm not trained at all in theater, but I have learned along the way and have been lucky to have patient teachers. Overall though, Counter Productions has done a wonderful thing by reviving the theater spirit in Provincetown and all of the lower Cape. We are a young non-profit, but we have so, so much more to do! So many plays to produce! So much fun to be had for all!
I have performed in or acted as an Assistant Director for five productions mounted by Counter Productions. I find that working with its blend of local and professional talent an exhilarating experience. The Artisitc Director's choice of material is always interesting and a refreshing change from what is often offered by community theaters and the encouragement the company gives to members of the community is exceptional. My experience with Counter Productions has been nothing short of wonderful . With its year-round programming I think it brings a gust of of fresh and invigorating theatrical excitement to Cape Cod- and the outer Cape in particular
Provincetown has been blessed over the years with a variety of theatre companies invoking the talents of amateur and equity players. Counter Productions has been one of the strongest and most creative of these companies offering a wide variety of productions for every interest throughout the year so that not only tourists but those of us hearty year round residents can enjoy theatre on a regular basis. As with all theatre groups in Provincetown, performance space and particularly rehearsal space is at a premium. Counter Productions has been fortunate to be able to find performance time at the superior Julie Harris Theatre in Wellfleet but they really need their own dedicated workspace here in Provincetown.
I am constantly amazed at the high quality output from Counter Productions. Under Susan Grilli's leadership they have managed to put out one outstanding production after another, reaching a wide variety of audiences. I cannot say enough good about the meticulous care that is put into the decision making process for each production and more importantly the support Susan lends to her "staff" of actors, stage hands etc. After being away from the stage for many years, Counter has reawakened my desire to get back on it. From an outsiders perspective, there are almost always positive reviews both in the press and from the local word of mouth and I can certainly say that the review from the actors side is just as excellent. If I didn't have to work a "real" job, I'd try to be a part of every show in some way shape or form. Love, love, love Counter Productions!
Counter Productions & Susan Grilli, it's artistic director, and the company of actors & tech. do a broadway worthy job every time. I have worked with the company at different times as the stage manager and I am continually impressed & honored to work with everyone. For the last 10 months other work have taken me away from working with Counter Productions. It has been a pleasure to be an audience member for the shows that happened over that time and see the continued growth of the company. It just keeps getting more & more polished. They bring NYC quality to our small community theater here on the lower Cape. I am grateful to everyone involved for this enriching addition to the community. Thanks Counter Production. Thanks Susan Grilli.
I've worked on many productions with Counter Productions, as well as having been an audience member at many many wonderful productions. This company is such a needed part of our community. The quality of work is always superb, and the experience had by all involved is always something to be treasured.
Provincetown Counter Productions is a prolific organization serving an under-served community. Led by the irrepressible, Susan Grilli, Counter's vision and execution is thrilling. She accomplishes so much with little support. I am a theatre professional who has worked all over the world and Ms. Grilli's accomplishments and perseverance are unparalleled. What she has done so far is something no one else in the community has been able to do and the community support should mirror that.
Counter Productions is a community theater of professional caliber-- they have brought a wide range of wonderful, thoughtful plays to Provincetown-- from Anna in the Tropics to Working: the Musical, to Philadelphia Here I Come. The acting, music, sets, costumes, direction, are superb. I'd rather see live theater than a movie any day-- and it's the rare city that has a company of Counter's strength and good taste. I have been deeply moved by every show I've seen there. Life in this small town has been infinitely enriched.
Counter Productions are a wonderful group of people operating with high standards while making the working experience fun and enjoyable. They are a strong community asset and are held in high regard throughout the region. I have worked in many theaters in the area and would be troubled to find a group with whom I have had a better experience.
I have had the pleasure of working with PROVINCETOWN COUNTER PRODUCTIONS as a freelance costume designer for the past year. I have always been treated warmly and professionally, with the utmost respect for my skill and expertise. The quality of the shows produced on a shoestring budget is amazing.
Counter Productions is a wonderful, community based theater company in Provincetown, MA that provides opportunities for Cape Cod residents to be artistically involved as actors, technicians, musicians and volunteers in year-round productions of plays and musicals. Its goal is to bring the arts and culture to the Cape year round. Its work is highly regarded throughout Massachusetts, and has garnered high artistic praise for its ambitious productions, often dramatically staged and directed.
Counter Productions has brought amazing YEAR ROUND theatre to the outer cape. they have produced challenging pieces while utilizing local talent to its fullest. Provincetown is lucky to have them.
Counter Productions has provided countless hours of AMAZING!! community theatre. At this outpost at the end of Cape Cod, they have drawn from a tremendous pool of talent and provided them with quality vehicles to display those talents. Their efforts have enriched our lives and the lives of many Cape Cod Theatre lovers. Counter Productions should be applauded and supported for the wonderful work they do.
I have had the GREAT pleasure of working on four shows with Counter-Productions, as well as seeing probably ten performances there. Each show is carried off in a flawlessly professional way, at the same time as being ever welcoming to a group of artists from local's appearing on stage for the first time, to much more experienced actors. Their shows are always moving, the kind of pieces that you walk away from saying "wow!". One particular show, "Wit", left me thinking for days, because of the depth of the acting that the cast displayed.
I have had the distinct pleasure and privilege of performing in THREE Counter-Productions shows--one being part of their Inaugural Season, "I Am My Own Wife," directed by Artistic Director and Founder, the fabulous Susan Grilli. Jefferson Mays, the man who created the role on Broadway, came to see one of the performances and said "you made my Summer," citing the dedication to telling the story of the play that Susan and I worked on conveying. Counter-Productions is invaluable as an artistic, cultural and community organization.
