Mission: Project Sunshine harnesses the healing powers of play and connection to help children and families cope with medical challenges. Our play-based programs - delivered by a dedicated corps of trained volunteers - alleviate the stress of hospital stays and medical procedures while promoting key aspects of childhood like socialization, creative expression, intellectual stimulation, and sensory integration. We partner with 475+ medical facilities and nonprofits in the United States and in four international locations: Canada, China, Israel, and Kenya.
Project Sunshine's staff and financial resources are all being directed toward the new TelePlay program, created by the executive director. This program has now been around for over two years. It does not elicit excitement from volunteers, many of whom prefer in-person programs, and pediatric patients are not excited by the program. Many sessions have few or no participants. The number of participants in the program is presented to donors by sharing cumulative stats, confusing donors and making them think there is much more involvement than there is. I would not donate to Project Sunshine again, as significant amounts of money are being used for the failing TelePlay program. There also appear to be significant internal DEI/racism issues with this organization.
Project sunshine is a great organization! The volunteers bring a tremendous amount of energy and spirit to the hospitals they visit and the kids light up when they see the yellow shirts come onto the unit.
