Project Starfish has been an incredible blessing in our family. We obviously loved the monthly monetary blessings we received from them, but we also appreciated the built in accountability it instilled in us. We knew that they would be doing budget checks, which kept us accountable to them and each other as we sat down to do our budget each month. The extra funds were such a blessing. There were months where we had car repairs and unexpected bills, but no added stress thanks to the benevolence of Project Starfish! We cannot wait to be debt free and become regular donors to PS to help other families in the future. Thank you again Project Starfish!
Project Starfish continues to be a Blessing. As I have pressed forward to repair much financial hardship of recent years, their grant of assistance has enabled my daughter and I to cover necessary living expenses. Only God knows how we would get by without the much-needed, compassionate help of this wonderful organization. I am grateful for Project Starfish, and looking forward to helping them help others. - Melanie S.
My husband and I were completing Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University through our church and were offered a scholarship through Project Starfish in order to assist us with paying off debt. Project Starfish and it's monthly scholarship has been instrumental in helping us achieve our goals of becoming debt free - by creating monthly budget's and setting goals we are seeing the impact the scholarship is having on our lives. The most important gift this scholarship has been to us is by holding ourselves accountable through this journey. We feel very blessed and are so grateful to be a Starfish scholarship receipt!

We were recently married, 9/2/17. Shortly afterward, we signed up at our local church to participate in Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University workshop. Since completion of the course, we are applying the principles to our daily lives in baby steps with the goal of becoming debt free. We are on a budget; give back to God what rightfully belongs to him through tithing; established an emergency fund and have paid off $12,825.00 of debt.
How has the Starfish grant been used?
One Saturday morning in December, after leaving the bank, we noticed one tire on our car was totally flat. It wasn’t flat when we left home that morning. The tire was not repairable and the other three needed to be replaced as well. The money came out of our emergency fund and was replaced by the December & January Starfish checks.
Late January, Isaac experienced a bad toothache. A trip to the dentist revealed an infection in a tooth and a root canal was required. He was sent home with a prescription for an antibiotic and an appointment to return a week later. Due to some minor complications, the tooth was abstracted instead of having the root canal. The out of pocket cost for the dental work came out of our emergency fund and was replaced by the February’s Starfish check.
Janice will have some upcoming medical expenses because she has a high deductible. She established a HFS account in January of this year, but the cash balance will not be sufficient to pay the expenses in total. We will apply future Star Fish grants to these expenses.
We understand that how we view and manage money is a spiritual matter. It is our desire to always honor the Lord with the things He has entrusted to us. Psalm 24:1; Matthew 6:21
