I believe eyesight is the most precious of all of our senses, and have always marveled at how well so many of the blind adapt to this most devastating of disabilities. How much better it would be to prevent blindness from happening in the first place, or treat it in its earliest stages when it may be possible to restore sight!! That is what Orbis does throughout the world. I have been a regular contributor to Orbis since 2013. What impresses me the most is that many of their "workers" are actually long-term volunteers (such as doctors) who, besides giving sight-saving surgery and treatment, train native medical personnel in developing countries to do the same, thus stretching their resources by enabling others to continue the good work without becoming dependent on continued assistance (which is the problem with some other charities).
Orbis sends donors an informative newsletter several times a year and my only criticism is that I feel they send what I consider to be too many separate appeals.

We donate to Orbis instead of buying flowers or anything else for a funeral. I feel the money spent honors the deceased far more than the usual tribute of flowers. Someone somewhere can see thanks to our gift and I feel that would make my loved one very happy. I too feel that The coo should be paid a fair but not exorbitant wage. I feel this board should review this situation and make adjustments.....How many kids could be helped by that savings....

Seems to be well managed in that 86%+ goes to programs, but I can't give to an organization whose COO makes nearly 1/2 mil. in salary... over double the CEO! I call it the 'golden calf' corporate model. In this case mostly the COO. Allopathic medicine in general is a crazy system, though certainly restoring sight for children is a great cause. But, we need to go to the root causes of diseases and disabilities - then medical costs would plunge (and so would some corporate bank accounts). Better nutrition, clean up the environment with organic food production, stop toxic GMO food production, avoid toxic/RGBh/antibiotic and pesticide-laden meat (less meat in general, since amino acids from plant-based diet are sufficient, and some vitamin supplimentation). Expose the effects of fluoride in water and vaccines with Thimerosal (Mercury), etc. There are the causes of blindness and every other ailment. In particular, when gut biota is damaged all manner of problems occur with children (and everyone else).

ALOHA I RECEIVED THEIR SOLICITATION LETTER WITH A NICKEL TEASER AND POSTAGE PAID ENVELOPE. AFTER CONSULTING CHARITY NAVIGATOR I AM IMPRESSED WITH THEIR HIGH EFFECTIVENESS RATING INCREASING IN ALMOST EVERY YEAR FOR THE DECADE. I AM IMPRESSED WITH ARTICLE ABOUT THEIR USE OF AN OLD DC9 WHICH FLIES STATE OF ART OPTH SURGERY THEATRE TO REMOTE PLACES TO TRAIN LOCAL OPTHAMOLIGISTS AND PATIENTS. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE USE OF LOCAL VITAMIN A ETC. SOURCES TO PREVENT BLINDNESS OF CHILDREN. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE LOWER SALARIES FOR TOP EXECS PARTICULARLY CFO. I AM SENDING THEM A DONATION. ALOHA
