It has been exciting to see the growth and variety of programs offered by SCIP for youth in our community. From low level engagement activities, sports and the arts, just to name a few programs... to the SHOCK program for youth in need of a high level of intervention. SCIP is making a difference in the lives of many youth, their families, our schools, and our entire community.

I have had a great experience with SCIP's program Coalition for a Safe & Healthy Arden-Arcade (CSHAA) as a member of the Arden-Arcade community and President of our local Chamber of Commerce. I have attended CSHAA events and meetings; they offer a variety of resources for local residents both adults and youth. Without their leadership, our community would have one less vital resource we absolutely need. I would like to see SCIP and their included programs continue to succeed and benefit our Greater Sacramento Region.

SCIP has transformed our family's life. I have seen SCIP's diversion program "SHOCK" transform a child's life. After the child is able to graduate from SHOCK, SCIP has other amazing programs for children to utilize such as boxing, outdoor adventure and skateboarding. What makes SCIP so powerful is that this agency creates a continued relationship with a child rather than a one time program. Thank you SCIP for all the continued effort to change lives!

The Sheriff's Community Impact Program (SCIP) is a Sacramento area non-profit that saw its beginnings providing positive experiences for cops and kids through a variety of recreational, educational, and athletic activities. As SCIP approaches its 10th-year of serving Sacramento County youth, SCIP has become more focused in delivering unique programs that target our most vulnerable youth.

SCIP has a collaborative mindset when working with our Coalition for a Safe & Healthy Arden Arcade, and the Project Lifelong program. This collaboration allows for a continuum of connectivity. We know that a sense of connection to one's community is a key factor in providing a safe, thriving community. SCIP is also a part of the Youth and Family Collective (YFC) -- a ground-breaking movement comprised of over twenty non-profits. This collective expands SCIP'S capacity, allowing us to deliver not just programs to keep our youth busy and out of trouble, but truly learn, earn, and thrive. The YFC supports SCIP'S mission to foster productive citizens by engaging youth in dynamic community programs.

Having spent almost 15-years in law enforcement before retiring in 2017, it is such an honor and privilege to be a part of a team of passionate people who believe wholeheartedly the significance and impact of the work we do.

Parents (or anyone for that matter) who may be searching for a meaningful youth program that will not just keep your kid out of trouble, but teach them leadership and other pro-social skills, SCIP/CSHAA and Project Lifelong are great programs to connect with.

Our agency (Inspiring Connections Outdoors) partners with Project Lifelong to provide their youth with outdoor experiences to enhance their already rich program. I have been continually impressed with the level of professionalism, enthusiasm and organization that I have encountered with my interactions with Sean Latour and Project Lifelong. The youth clearly have a deep respect for Sean and it is obvious that his program is providing them with structure, positive camaraderie, life skills, unadulterated joy, and communication skills, Of the seven agencies we partner with in the Sacramento area, working with Project Lifelong is by far the easiest and most inspiring.

The SCIP program, Coalition for a Safe and Healthy Arden Arcade, is a valued community resource, helping youth in this large unincorporated area of Sacramento. Notably, it works to inform the community of substance abuse issues impacting youth, works effectively in youth leadership training, and collaborates with the business community, the Greater Arden Chamber of Commerce, to educate merchants through the Responsible Alcohol Merchant Awards, which are rated through youth on-site surveys. I rely on this group for current information and recommend it to other groups as a model of collaboration.

Sherriff’s Community Impact Program has helped my son to find his place in the world. When my son entered the SHOCK program, he had a 1.07 GPA and was at risk of not graduating high school. He found two mentors he leaned on and they encouraged him to be a better human and to go to Discovery Challenge Academy. He excelled there and graduated high school six months early. He was invited to be a residential mentor at the next class and excelled at that responsibility. He moved on to enlist in the Marines and just graduated boot camp. Ethan has been closely mentored by Deputy Joe Gordon and has excelled. These officers who work this program are so dedicated to the youth of our community and work so hard to help out where they can. I am forever grateful that SCIP accepted Ethan into the SHOCK program. He is more confident in himself as a person and has mentors he can lean on and look up to as role models.

SCIP is a great organization that brings positivity to the interaction with youth as they empower them in their communities. The quality of the mentors in the program is outstanding. I had the opportunity to witness a mentor explain to a group of inmates his recent incredible success story of a youth he mentored.
It literally brought an attendee to tears as he said “If only I had had a mentor like you I wouldn’t be in here today’. Incredibly powerful team!!!!

I retired from the Sacramento Sheriff's Department in 2007 after 31 years of service. A good portion of my years were spent working with disadvantaged and troubled youth who were involved with drugs, gangs, and violent behaviors. Shortly after retirement I was approached by Mike Saigeon, (founder and director for the Sheriff's Community Impact Program), who shared with me his vision for providing services for the youth in the Arden Arcade area, and he offered me a chance to continue my work with youth. Mike and I had been linked together through the Sheriff's Safe School Program and Mike knew my interest in this area.

In 2011, the Deputy Friend Program was born. This program features uniformed officers from the Sacramento Sheriff's Department interacting on campus with 6 elementary school communities in the Arden Arcade area of Sacramento County. Sounds like a School Resource Officer Program. Yes, but this program is funded by a grant acquired through SCIP and not the area law enforcement agency. A unique program for our area, it has allowed officers to become a welcome addition to school sites as we have focus on supporting and building the positive feelings most students have towards law enforcement, allowing the students and staff a chance to have a 1 on 1 relationship with an officer, and learn first hand why we have police and what police really do in our communities. We walk the campus greeting everyone with a smile, shaking hands or giving high 5's. We read to students, provide classroom presentations on safety issues, and meet with staff and parent groups upon requests.

It is unfortunate law enforcement agencies don't always have funding to provide this type of service for elementary schools, but the Sheriff's Community Impact Program stepped in to fill this void and has supported Deputy Friend with grant funding from Kaiser Permanente and collaborative agreements with San Juan Unified and the Sacramento Sheriff's Department which has allowed the program to function and deliver these services to our community. I am very appreciative for the opportunity and without SCIP I don't think we would have the Deputy Friend Program.

This summer I volunteered with an outdoor program through the Sheriff's Community Impact Program. On just one of our trips we took a highly diverse group of young teens camping, swimming in the Yuba River, on a ropes course and hiking to the top of the Sierra Buttes just below 9,000 feet. For some, they had never been in a river before, some had never been camping, and others had never been on a hike. And none of them had ever been up high enough to see the tops of other mountains around them, or seen snow in July. I saw confidence build, friendships form, and a love for nature and the outdoors grow. I am sure this trip impacted these kids on levels they aren't even aware of. Without SCIP, this program would not exist and these children would not be able to experience the vast natural world that we are so innately connected to. Thank you SCIP!

The Sheriff's Community Impact Program is a tremendous resource to the youth of Sacramento County. They offer a holistic approach to youth programming and include diversion, leadership and recreation options. The SHOCK program provides youth with a diversion academy that treats the whole youth with physical training, emotional and social health education as well as providing students with a broad array of perspectives from Prosecuting and Defense Attorneys, Chief's of Police, Detectives, Probation, and incarcerated inmates. The Project Lifelong program within SCIP provides youth with the opportunity to experience the outdoors while camping, hiking, surfing and skateboarding. SCIP's Deputy Friend program provides valuable positive police interaction and reading opportunities with youth at title one schools in Sacramento County.

We cannot express how much we appreciate this program and it's representatives - Sean LaTour and Deputy Bob Hauck! Sean and the Outdoor Adventure program was exactly what we were looking for to engage my 14 yr. old son! He doesn't participate in traditional youth team sports, but he does love an adventure and Sean was amazing in making him feel comfortable from the very first meeting! He has a natural gift in connecting with kids and parents! He is responsible and communicates well and always has the kids best interest in mind. My son recently returned from a trap shooting trip with Deputy Hauck and could not stop talking about how much fun it was and how Deputy Hauck was a really a cool guy! He can't wait for their next trip and we're just so happy that he's wanting to do more than play his Xbox! Thank you SCIP for taking the time and effort to inspire young kids to break out and try new experiences!

I joined the board of Sheriff's Community impact Program over a year ago. I have lived in the Arden Arcade community for over 50 years and have strongly supported the efforts of SCIP the last five years. Deputy Mike Saigeon and team have made amazing strides in their efforts to engage and encourage the youth of this area. These youth are "at risk" for many reasons: location, family, poverty, gangs, and much more. They need role models, adults who are committed long term, who care about their future, and love what they are doing. Not only do the youth division officers work with students on a daily basis, there are many who volunteer more time to what they believe is important for the future of these children and the community. I have had the opportunity to work on various programs and activities including Unity in the Community (Sheriff's Department invites the community to a local park to learn about all programs available, interact with volunteers, have a free BBQ, demonstrations, etc.). I have worked on fundraisers, committee to begin our strategic plan, Christmas giving program, attended an activity at Solano State Prison working with inmates who are part of our SHOCK program, helping Sacramento County youth make better choices and more. The involvement of the sheriff's officers and local volunteers should be an inspiration to us all. I am so motivated by all of the people I have met through this amazing nonprofit. Mike and his wife Jennifer have made a huge life commitment to this community. Programs also include Project Lifelong, the after school boxing program, Deputy Friend and SCIP fit (both programs included within the school day at elementary and middle schools in the area). SCIP also supports the Coalition for a Safe and Healthy Arden Arcade (CSHAA) that has become a youth-led civic action program that continues to empower the youth to improve their lives through positive role modeling and positive action at their schools and the community. My involvement with SCIP has been both uplifting and rewarding. The friends I have made will continue to be part of my life. I believe we can and are making a difference.

Our school has been fortunate enough to work with the Sheriff's Community Impact Program. Deputy Mike Saigeon has come out to the school to sponsor families for Christmas and his team came out to visit our campus.

The families who were able to receive support from the SCIP were so grateful for the wonderful opportunity. Excited students came to me after Winter Break and expressed their gratitude. It was touching to see the joy on their faces.

Recently, the SCIP came to our school for a "Cops and Kids" day. The students were overjoyed to see the officers, talk to them and spend lunch recess with them. Even our 7th & 8th grade students enjoyed the experience. Our students keep asking me when the officers will be back! They had a great time!

We are very appreciative to have such caring officers in our community! There needs to be more programs like this one!!!

Sacramento California has a proactive Sherriff with a great leader. Mike Saigeon leads the SCIP PROGRAM for Sheriff Jones. SCIP HAS CHANGED YOUNG LIVES FROM CRIME TO GOOD STUDENTS AND GOOD CITIZENS. Many officers have spent their own time in a mireade of 100's of programs which help troubled kids change theirs ways of thinking from crime to good , healthy , productive citizens . As you know it costs 60k a year for each imprisoned person. We are seeing proactive cops changing youth, convincing many to attend school and do well with their classes and develop good habits.

I write about my community for a local publication. That is how I got to know Michael Saigeon and the Sheriff's Community Impact Program.Their mission is to foster productive citizens by engaging youth in dynamic community programs

There are a lot of folks out there with good intentions and big hearts who want to help our youth. But they don't always have the wisdom, intelligence and organization needed to sustain an effort like this. Michael and his crew do. They not only built this program, they did all the right things necessary for highly successful engagement with our youth . The variety of ways they reach young men and women and offer them alternatives is incredibly impressive. Those of us in the Arden Arcade Community who support this program know that our contributions of time and money will be used wisely and for the most benefit possible.

One only has to look at the faces of the youth attending the wide range of character-building yet engaging activiites to know they are changing lives. I know it hasn't been an easy job to build this nonprofit. Michael and the Sheriff's Department started it when the ecoomy was pretty bad. But I really appreciate his vision, passion, and commitment to changing lives. I plan to donate to their fundraiser today. It's one nonprofit I know will use every cent to help where it is needed most, our youth.

This is a great program for kids. Builds self esteem and provides them with a better understanding and respect of law enforcement, community and their role as a productive citizen. Thanks.

The job the SCIP does is no less than phenomenal . The team shows incredible heart every day to tackle the problems in today's community the way they do. Mike and his team have the right philosophy and attitude. Their activities are first rate and their programs are spot on. The SCIP program is a beacon in police community relations and should be emulated throughout the country as the standard of how to impact a community.

With all the negative news regarding law enforcement, Mike and his team represent the true picture of what officers represent. They are big hearted people that want to help save lives. What better way then letting kids know they have good choices available and that there are people who care! Awesome team Mike!

I have seen students really grow and challenge themselves while participating in SCIP programs. The variety of programs offered give students an opportunity to try unique sports and activities that they otherwise wouldn't have access to.

The Carmichael Chamber of Commerce is pleased to recommend the SCIP program. We have been a donor to the organization which has worked with kids to build into their lives. Mike Saigeon has been a valuable asset to this organization as he has helped to lead it with care and integrity. I'm sure we will all look back to see that they affected kids lives for the better. They are a valuable asset to the community.

My boys took a couple of the programs that SCIP offered that first or second summer the program began. It was the first time I let my boys go to a summer program that wasn't populated with kids from their school or other kids they knew (other than each other.) The sheriffs were so kind and friendly to my boys and the other kids in the programs. They were particularly excited about the ATV class. They got back tired, dirty and with great stories about learning and hanging out with the sheriffs and new found friends.
The experiences that SCIP provides are ones that many of these kids could only have dreams of. Any kid involved with a SCIP program comes away with true fun memories of not only the activities they participate in but also a better understanding that there are really nice people behind the badge that care for them and the community these kids live in.

SCIP has been in existence only a few years, but has contributed so much to the local Arden Arcade community and the youth of that community. The programs that they run are so enriching to lives of young adults and children. Many of the programs, these youths would never be able to participate in, without SCIP.
Their SHOCK program directly mentors trouble youth with one to one mentoring.
This non profit should be on everyone's to "help" list.

The Sheriff Community Impact Program is making a difference int he neighborhoods it services. Children that do not have the same opportunities are given chances to change their lives and to experience events or activities that they would never get a chance to experience.
The children beam with excitement and look forward to participating in the activities that are provided by the deputies and volunteers.
This organization makes a huge difference in the community it serves!

I work at San Juan Unified School District and collaborating with SCIP . I have referred community residence of all ages to the program that SCIP offer and have always receive positive fee back. Officer Michael Saigeon has helped the district on truancy prevention. I have taught parenting classes at Swanson Center . However the most amazing changes I see our in children eyes and the smiles when SCIP around and teenagers views that law enforcement is a resource to improve their lives and the community.

SCIP has been working with disadvantaged youth in the Arden Arcade community providing free recreation activities that work on character and physical development. Park and Recreation Departments are not structured to provide the quality no cost programs that SCIP continues to offer. SCIP is the recreation safety net for the underprivileged youth in our community. Many of the volunteers that help with the recreation programs offered by SCIP are volunteer Sacramento County Sheriff Officers. The officer's involvement helps generate a feeling of trust and respect between the program participants and the officers. Keeping the children active in positive activities with positive role models is helping change our community one child at a time.

We are very fortunate to have such an amazing program. SCIP has worked hard with our campus to form a positive relationship between our students and our local Sheriff's Department. From making the SHOCK program available to families who need the support, to the Strengthening Families Counseling services, to just coming out to have lunch with our middle school students, SCIP and Michael Saigeon have been one of the most easily acessible and effective resources available!

We are truly blessed to have such an amazing team here in Sacramento!

SCIP is amazing! There are so many different programs available for the youth in the community. My daughter is involved in YLC (Youth Leadership Council) which is giving her the opportunity to gain valuble leadership skills and an opportunity to volunteer with younger children in the community. I look forward to watching her grow and devalop with the program.

SCIP has been a generous supporter of my community after-school program. Thorough funding and other services from their organization we have been able to expand the opportunities for our participants and provide them more enriching activities. Many of our participants come from low-income homes and are considered at-risk. SCIP not only gives them exposure to extracurricular activities that they would not have otherwise had the capabilities to enjoy, but more importantly gives them a positive perspective on police in the community. SCIP at heart is an ideal program which sets the example of how community members and officials can come together for a greater cause which is the betterment of our youth and families.

SCIP has come such a long way since its inception a few short years ago. The amount of support it is gaining has allowed it to reach out to more of the at risk community and the young people they serve are being exposed to experiences they would never have had without their involvement in SCIP. The program is a life changer for those involved as they are exposed to many positive role models and activities on a daily basis. There is a need for more programs of this type.

I am so Thankful for the SHOCK program through the Sacramento Sheriff Youth Programs that I wish I could SHOUT it all out to the local area. I think programs like this need to be highlighted in the local news media to let some parents, teachers, etc., know that there actually is a program that is supported to help our At Risk Youth.

This has been heaven sent for our son and just in the right time. They came to our house, interviewed our son and my X-husband and I and he has been in the program just a couple weeks and I know when the 8 weeks are up, he will have more internal knowledge with what good choices and bad choices will do for him and his future.

I am an advocate for this program as well as all the staff involved. Specifically Sheriff Deputy Michael Saigeon as he has been in constant communication with us, allowing call's, emails, visits to my son's school and really made himself available even on his official "off hours time". This has given me a new look into the dedication of our Sheriff Department has to impact our local youth.

Thank you to the entire team, and to those who raised funds for this program to exist. I am happy to help in what ever way I can.

A Thankful Mom

SCIP was established to engage children and youth in their own positive social, emotional and academic development. SCIP provides connections among schools, law enforcement, families and community members to help young people reach their personal best. The dedication and commitment of staff and volunteers has created a momentum that is changing lives.

I have been working with SCIP for over a year now. I work in the San Juan Unified School District's SARB/Prevention department and have worked along side some of the deputies in an effort to increase school attendance and most importantly academic achievement. SCIP has been a great resource for parents and students that need help getting on track to becoming successful. The program is positive and provides alternatives for youth such as sports, photograghy and overall support and guidance. San Juan families have needed this resource for a while and we hope they continue to grow.

Sac State Community Engagement Center has partnered with Sheriff Community Impact Program (SCIP) since from inception. University students have volunteered and provided service learning hours of service from a wide breadth of colleagues and department from first year to graduate students of the years. Students report that their experiences at SCIP provided a knowledge of family and children at-risk that they would have never gained from reading or lectures and are grateful for the experience. SCIPS goes beyond serving the families with high risk youth but our students as well.

Our nonprofit, Omni Youth Programs, has been collaborating with the Sheriff's Community Impact Program in Sacramento for 1 1/2 years. We feel privileged to be a part of the great work they are doing in the Sacramento community. The officers do a tremendous amount of direct, hands on work with with extremely limited resources. What makes up for that is their incredible vision and contagious dedication to accomplish their goal of helping individuals, families and improving the quality of life for everyone in the community. All the officers pavement pound with a tremendous number of organizations, businesses, schools and individuals in their assigned region, and one contact at a time, they pull widely unrelated groups together for one purpose - kids and families, with an energy that is a marvel!
The officer's provide meaningful and personalized programs ranging from youth leadership, alternative activities for youth, skill building for future jobs or living life drug and violence free. Impressively, they manage to inspire huge amounts of volunteerism and donations from nearby small businesses. And our agency is only one of many they collaborate with to bring programs and services directly to where the children and families are, free of charge.
I greatly respect the work that the Sheriff's Community Impact Fund in Sacramento and very highly endorse the organization and officers involved.

The Sheriff’s Community Impact Program connects with at-risk youth and their families by providing rewarding activities (e.g. drumming camps and writing workshops) for youth, positive interactions in schools and on streets with Sheriffs, and additional resources through their growing network of other community-based providers in the area. I first met SCIP’s Founder and Director, Deputy Michael Saigon, at California State University, Sacramento’s Community Engagement Center luncheon, where we discussed SCIP, student volunteers, mental health, juvenile justice, and research. I was excited about SCIP’s approach to crime prevention through enrichment and promotion of children and youths’ well-being. Michael’s commitment to each and every kid and the community as a whole is inspirational! SCIP has what it takes to really make positive impact! I look forward to collaborating with the Sheriff’s Community Impact Program!

I have custody of my 13 yr old Grandson, I contacted SCIP because he was making some bad choices, failing /skipping school, drug use, shop lifting ,etc. Everything I tried was not working, so I contacted Mike with SCIP and he responded promptly. The program seems to have had a great impact on my grandson. The one on one personal involvement by SCIP members is nothing less than amazing. This resource is much needed in the community, schools and families.

It gives me great personal and professional satisfaction to recognize the fine work SCIP is providing for the needy youth of this area. SCIP recognizes that to reduce crime and increase job readiness, our needy youth need positive role models, educational support, and recreational activities. Through the efforts of Mike Saigeon and the volunteer officers, the youth in this area have an opportunity to reach greater educational success, develop character traits that strengthen their potential in society, and learn the social skills of working positively with others.

Often SCIP's efforts provide just one of the few positive opportunities for these youth. But it is a strong structure that provides for future growth and success. SCIP's efforts are changing the culture for these youth and the community in which they live.

Thank you SCIP for your unfailing efforts to support our needy students. May the program grow and reach out to even more communities!

As a neighbor of Sacramento's Arden-Arcade area, I'm directly affected by the positive impact the Sacramento Sheriff's Community Impact Program (SCIP) makes on the youth of my area.

Many of the at-risk youth have little or no role model by which to reflect upon to improve their lives. The SCIP provides these disadvantaged kids not only with healthy and constructive activities, but fantastic volunteers that help shape the lives of the participants in a positive way. Their approach to preventing crime from happening, rather than reacting to crime, is noticed by the surrounding communities as the crime in our areas continues to decline.

I am very happy with the work Deputy Saigeon and his team do with their limited funding, and am an advocate for their program in my neighborhood.

I have been very impressed with the Impact team and their efforts. They do do much to bring the community together. They have taken a huge role in getting Sacramento area youth interested and involved in various sports which promotes positive self image, self esteem, and gives these kids a feeling of belonging. It's an impressive effort.

It is amazing to see law enforcement reach out through this local non profit to our at risk youth in our community. They are touching and impacting lives through golf, scuba diving, after school programs and so much more. I am proud to be involved with such a great organization that is so well needed. Our youth need positive role models to show them life alternatives to make a positive impact in their lives. What better way to do this than through Law Enforcement officers showing them the good side of police activities! If only every community could be so lucky!

I have had the privilege of working with SCIP's and their committed group of professionals's through their SHOCK Program. I have watched them in our community reaching out to parents, educators, and students. Their belief is more can be accomplished through community policing, and they put this belief into action with a mission that is dedicated towards fostering productive citizens that engage our youth in dynamic community programs.

As a local pastor, I am looking for community members with whom we can partner to change the direction of so many unattended young people in our community. SCIP has proven to be that partner--dedicated to serving the entire community, redirecting the energies and attention of our young people into positive activities and character-building opportunities.

I am very thankful to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department for recognizing the needs of Arden Arcade and providing this much-needed link between law enforcement and community partners to provide healthy, positive alternatives for 'searching' and 'energetic' young people.
