I began volunteering with Project Home Again 10 years ago in 7th grade and PHA has helped me grow into the person I am. Through that time I have been amazed by PHA's commitment to serving ALL members of the Merrimack Valley Community. I have personally seen, volunteering during open hours, the hope and stability PHA provides to everyone who comes in. PHA has been a leader in the community, responding to the community's needs through storms and disasters, like the gas line explosions a few years ago, COVID-19, and everything in between. PHA has always been committed to helping the most vulnerable in the community including refugees. I am so proud to have been a part of this organization throughout this past decade.
I've had the privilege of working with PHA for many years now, as a volunteer, donor and community leader. They are by far one of the best run organizations of any kind with whom I have worked. Not only do they stay true to their mission, they have managed their growth in a measured and thoughtful way. One of their biggest strengths is knowing when to say no. Ensuring the quality of their intakes, and the completeness of their outflows, PHA has been able to sustain through location changes, the pandemic, and logistical challenges that have caused other places to fold. Their story should be a model for any organization looking to support the human services sector.
Project Home Again based in Lawrence and Andover, MA is unequaled in passion and resourcefulness. The founder, as well as supporters/volunteers, make it their mission to treat its clients with dignity and uplifting support as they are provided with home furnishings. A client family enters from a homeless or domestic abuse situation and leaves PHA with hope…and items to make their new dwelling their welcoming home.
It has been my privilege and honor to contribute to this cause in both time and money. The founder has spent countless hours during the course of her 19 years creating opportunities to harness the generosity of both local and national resources.
Nancy and the PHA team are incredible. Humbly serving an oft overlooked population and maximizing impact of both time and money. They are kind, creative, dedicated and a model for how non profits should interact with donors, advocates and those they serve. Full 5 stars!
I have been donating to Project Home Again for over 15 years. It is remarkable how their outreach and programs have grown. Nancy and her crew of volunteers go above and beyond for their clients, often under tight time frames.
As supporting donors and friends, we have been inspired by the work done by Project Home Again. The integration of schools, seniors and the community in general in support of the those in need is special and reflects the Project Home Again leadership. This organization makes a difference in the lives of those in need, empowering its volunteers and donors. Thanks you PHA!
Project Home Again completely transforms lives by transforming living spaces into a comfortable and beautiful environment. After volunteering there on and off for over 7 years, I can guarantee you that there's not a day I work with clients when tears aren't shed. It's amazing to see joy come into peoples faces, and to see the gorgeous furniture PHA is giving to them, free of charge. Nancy started this out of her garage, and has grown it exponentially in serving the community.
Having worked in the Greater Merrimack Valley with families in need, can tell you that Project Home Again meets the need for so many in a gentle, supportive, nonjudgemental way. They personalize services to suit each family individually, and go above and beyond to provide beautiful household items- linens, furniture, and many other necessities- quickly and efficiently. PHA does the nearly impossible task of providing household items, free of charge, so that folks in need have the clean, safe , necessary items to make a house into a home.
I still remember the day when President of Project Home Again, said to me I am going to change people's lives and to think it all started with a couple of used home appliances that needed to be rehomed. Change people's lives is exactly what Project Home Again does. It helps those in trying situations get resituated with household items while doing so by preserving their dignity. Thanks to Project Home Again and their founder/president Nancy Kanell lives have been put back on track while life has let them down. Project Home Again gives people back that feeling of there is no place like home, again!
Since 2010, I have been volunteering at Project Home Again as a truck driver picking up donated furniture and other large items. It has been a most fulfilling way to give back to my community. Project Home Again is a grass-roots organization that has served thousands of local families simply by filling a need to make an empty living space into a warm loving home for so many deserving people. I am inspired by their stories of survival and courage to make a better life for themselves and their families.
I heard about Project Home Again (PHA) when they were first starting out, because my parents were downsizing and we wanted to share things that they no longer needed. Over the years I referred many friends wanting to donate. I've been a volunteer at PHA for a couple of years now, and have seen the operation from the inside. PHA President, Nancy Kanell, is astonishingly good at innovating, adapting to challenges (e.g., COVID, loss of warehouse space), and serving clients with respect, joyfulness and compassion. She is a tireless advocate and has built an organization that is inspiring similar programs in many locations, and through TikTok is engaging thousands around the world. PHA lets us all share our desire to help others--which is priceless.
