Project Grad is a program to BELIEVE IN! They truly do MAKE A DIFFERENCE! To work with them is an HONOR!
Hello, I am a current student at Georgia State and Project Grad has given, not only me but fellows students a chance and opportunity to be a part of something great. Being an African-American Harpist, I was also offered to play at one of Project Grad Events, making myself more credible in my involvement with post secondary success. Project Grad and their member, Ms. Ann is a team I would love to tell the world about. This Scholarship Program really loves its students.
Project Grad Atlanta is the best thing that has happened to me. They are very helpful and give me the opportunity to utilize the help given to us. Project Grad goes above and beyond expectations in order to keep us focused, on the right path and ensuring us the best college career possible.
What a great organization with a great mission to help high school students prepare for and succeed in college! I am proud to be part of this successful and worthwhile organization that is making a difference in thousands of lives.
This is a great opportunity for students! Not only does Project GRAD provide students with a scholarship to attend college, but provides them with the essential skills needed to be successful in high school and college. Project GRAD assists student with SAT/ACT prep, encourages all students to strive for their best, gives real life college experiences, etc. I only wish my daughter who recently graduated from high school was given the same opportunity!!!
We are grateful that Project Grad is still supporting some of our APS schools. It would be great if this initiative could be in every school as the mission begins with our babies in elementary school. A great option to reach more parents within the District of APS and even to support them would be to connect with the Adult Literacy Center and PAPAC (District Wide Parent Center) and many having a office in these areas or possibly doing workshops with our school Parent Centers to help drive academic goals of the school. Great job thus far on taking our youth, schools and communities higher.
Project GRAD Atlanta has a passion and commitment to improve students’ academic success. It is the most comprehensive approach to increasing awareness to the idea of college enrollment that I have ever witnessed. They continue to establish creative strategies for addressing the identified needs of students from low-income backgrounds. Their partnership with Atlanta Public Schools has changed the lives of thousands of families and will make this city a better place for years to come. By helping students and parents understand the importance of college, they are changing the world. Now each year, hundreds of low-income students appreciate that college is realistic option.
I don't have any kids or haven't benefited from Project Grad, but I know a couple staff member and I know how hard they work to serve the kids. Graduations, summer programs, after hours programs. I know they are making a difference for the youth of our city. Thanks
The work that Project GRAD (PG) does to enhance the lives of underserved families is unparalleled. As a product of the readiness, access and success services, I can attest to the impact it has on First Generation College students. I am the fourth of five children, and the only person in my family to graduate high school and college. This would not have been possible had it not been for the exposure I received through Project GRAD. I was taken on various college tours, individually advised by informed college admission & financial aid specialist. As a result, I learned what was necessary to successfully enroll and graduate college. Project GRAD really understand that value of a college education and empowers students and families to understand it life altering impact. As a 2013 graduate of Morehouse College and currently a Consultant for a Fortune 500 company, I understand that Graduation Really Achieves Dreams.
I have seen Project GRAD serve thousands of students of Atlanta in the Metropolitan area by providing them with guidance from teachers, fellow peers, and the Project GRAD staff. Each person who has worked with Project Grad has provided the students with support and education required to graduate and prepare for college. Through my experience with Project GRAD, I was able to help students who were just like myself when I was in school. I was able to show the leadership skills that I developed through my experience in college and spread the word of how I was made into the person who I am today with the help and determination of the Project GRAD staff. Thank you Project GRAD for providing opportunities for students in the Metropolitan area of Atlanta
Project GRAD Atlanta is impact in action!!! I have donated to the organization for the past 8 years and have watched the impact of the organization grow as my annual donations have increased. The organization retains meticulous documentation and data on program participation and outcomes, and I have always received proactive updates on the programming, mission, values, and vision of the organization. It's also amazing how well the organization has adapted to the needs of the Atlanta Public Schools, the city of Atlanta, as well as national trends in college readiness, access, and success. The organization is fiscally-conservative and nimble, which is a testament to the organization's visionary and capable leadership. Any time I have requested a meeting with the ED to find out about how my and others' donations are being utilized, I have been responded to immediately and without hesitation, and all of my questions have been answered. I have also witnessed feedback and ideas that I and others have offered to the organization being infused into the work of the organization, demonstrating respect and malleability as it relates to the organization's openness to new ideas. I recommend support for this organization on every level! As a matter of fact, writing this review reminds me that it's time for me to donate again for the 2014 fiscal year. I'm going online right now to do so! It's true...Graduation Really Achieves Dreams!
Project GRAD continues to serve Metro-Atlanta students by providing the guidance, support and education required for students to move forward in the careers in life. Through my involvement with Project GRAD, I was able to visit my alma mater and spread word of how I was able to overcome various obstacles to get to were I am now. Without Project GRAD many of Metro-Atlanta students would not be provided the opportunity to visit various colleges and look beyond the boundaries of Atlanta. I thank Project GRAD for all the support they've given me and for the support they continue to provide to Atlanta's youth.
As a Brumley GRAD scholar, I was afforded the opportunity to work with many influential individuals, visit various colleges and receive motivation that kept me moving forward. Project GRAD Atlanta assisted me in completing my undergraduate studies at BU, I owe them the world for providing me with opportunities!!
Project GRAD Atlanta is an amazing organization that offers students inner city schools with their present and future studies. Not only does this organization provide financial support to students but professional development and other opportunities as well. I am grateful for this program and would recommend each and every parent to allow their child to participate with this organization.
When I first encountered Project GRAD Atlanta, I was pleasantly surprised by the programs and initiatives, which they offered their students. The students they server not only receive support and guidance throughout high school, they are continuously supported until they graduate college. As a college graduate and an educator, I understand the importance of such support, and the value it provides for their students. Understanding this and seeing the ultimate impact of such support, I fully endorse and support Project GRAD Atlanta and the work that they do without hesitation.
Project GRAD-Atlanta continues to be a leading organization for offering students the opportunity to attend college. I am an Account Executive at Atlanta Business Chronicle that works with nonprofits to build awareness to the community about their mission statements, goals, and needs. Year after year, Project GRAD-Atlanta is committed to keeping Atlanta's Influential Community members in-the-know about their success and contributions to these students! Awareness and support are critical and Project GRAD-Atlanta does a great job!!
As an Account Executive at Atlanta Business Chronicle that works with nonprofits to build awareness to the community about their mission statements, goals, and needs, I know the importance of making sure the corporate community is kept informed and engaged. Project GRAD Atlanta does a great and consistent job informing Atlanta about their success and the increasing amount of scholarships that are awarded. With their commitment to celebrating the graduates and thanking the supporters, they continue to grow and remain top of mind for support consideration. Great job to Project GRAD Atlanta!!
I have watched Project GRAD over the years as it has worked to make college possible for many students and gone even further to change the culture at schools to include college-going. Working with students who are already at college to help them be successful there is also a valuable part of what they do to prepare students for life. As a volunteer at two GRAD schools, I have seen the benefits first hand.
As a marketing businessman and advertising designer, I have helped to tell the Project GRAD-Atlanta story and have become very familiar with it. As someone who has worked with other non profits, I have great respect for Project GRAD-Atlanta as an organization. Having worked for years in the field of education I value their mission and their contribution to young people in the city of Atlanta. I have witnessed their profound effect on countless young lives in our city.
Project GRAD Atlanta continues to make college a reality for students. As a College Access and Success Manager, I understand that "College Changes Lives"! Kudos to Project GRAD Atlanta for providing millions of dollars in scholarships to the students of the Atlanta Public Schools!
As a College Readiness professional I can firmly say that Project GRAD Atlanta is a quality player and leader in the work of College Readiness, College Access and student retention. To date Project GRAD Atlanta has awarded over 2,250 scholars with the George W. Brumley Memorial Project GRAD Scholarship.
As a provider of in-kind technical services to Project GRAD Atlanta for a number of years, I am continually impressed by their unwavering commitment to and appreciation of the students they serve and support. Despite the financial challenges they face, the Scholar Support team, supported by and often in addition to the administration, fosters and maintains relationships with each individual student. The Project GRAD Atlanta team expends their personal, too often unreimbursed time and energies into programs and activities, simply because they understand that it is unreasonable to expect success from students without consistently and substantially investing in them. It is an honor to be able to support Project GRAD Atlanta.
As a provider of in-kind technical services to Project GRAD Atlanta for a number of years, I have worked with the team members remotely - via telephone and e-mail. Earlier this year, for the first time, I had the opportunity to visit their offices and work with some of the team members on-site. While I had always found the staff to be very professional our dealings on technical projects, I was significantly more impressed by not only the way in which they regard one another, but more importantly, the commitment to and appreciation of the students they serve and support. Despite the financial challenges they face, the Scholar Support team, supported by - and apparently often in addition to - the administration fosters and maintains relationships with each individual student. They put their personal, too often unreimbursed time and energies into programs and activities because they understand that it is unreasonable to expect success from their students without consistently and substantially investing in those students.
Project GRAD Atlanta has impacted my life beyond what I could have ever imagined. I have had many opportunities to grow and achieve my goals both personal and professional. Though, I had already earned an associate's degree several years before knowing about Project GRAD, the amazing work and impact on they made on the community, inspired me to return to college. Since that time, I have accomplished several goals, including earning a bachelor's degree and a job promotion.
I am a social worker and first came into contact with Project Grad Atlanta because of my career. This program has helped all the students that I know who have been apart of it! The staff always seems so knowledgeable and shows genuine concern for the students.
Project GRAD Atlanta works! The proof is in the outcomes and the data that support these outcomes. More students from Project GRAD high schools are graduating from high school, enrolling in 2- and 4-year colleges, and then graduating from college with options for further study and career mobility. Project GRAD Atlanta offers students hope that their dreams of college can be fulfilled, then outlines a pathway, with a compass, for how they can actually get there and be successful. That's the definition of a great nonprofit working on behalf of students!
I'm so impressed with Project Grad! When I first heard about what they do I couldn't believe there was an organization out there that helps young people have a better future beyond high school. I've spoken to first generation college students who have said they would have never thought they could go to college until they were exposed to Project Grad. Please keep up the wonderful work you're doing!
Project GRAD Atlanta IS a great nonprofit that has an immensely positive impact. In a crowded nonprofit landscape, Project GRAD stands out as an organization that offers a hand up to those who need it most. Elevating students to excel at both the secondary and higher education levels, Project GRAD is a crucial component to public education.
What a wonderful, wonderful opportunity for rising seniors to begin the college app process, ehance math skills and become proficient in Language Arts. I had all-men classes on the historic Morehouse campus. A wonderful experience for those young men. Project GRAD Atlanta--the BEST.
Project GRAD Atlanta is one of the best non-profits that I have had the experience of working with. I have seen Project GRAD Atlanta touch the lives of countless students, parents, and teachers by exposing everyone to different things. For example, I have seen students benefit by being exposed to out of state college tours and college rep. visits. I have seen parents benefit by being exposed to other parents who have experienced the process of having a first generation college going studnet go off to college. Last but not least I have seen teachers benefit by being exposed to a new curriculum and way of veiwing our inner city youth as it relates to the possibilities of going to experience post secondary options. Project GRAD really achives Dreams and I have been witness to so many dreams come true during my experience with Project GRAD Atlanta.
I have been a board member for about a year and continue to be impressed with the both the board and the executive leadership. The meetings are crisp and the say/do index of the organization is high. Real impacts on the lives of children are taking place.
I've gotten to know the work of Project GRAD Atlanta very well the last couple of years as a volunteer and Board member and could not be more impressed with this organization and all it is doing to move the needle when it comes to impacting the lives of young people and the work they are doing in the classroom on the path to high school and college graduation. This is an organization that doesn't just talk the talk, they act every single day while working with a broad range of aspiring students and show the fruits of their labor with exceptional metrics. The bottom line is Project GRAD is having an enormous effect on the lives of hundreds of young people in Atanta every year. The staff is topnotch, led by executive director Dr. Yolanda Watson Spiva, one of the most accomplished educators in Atlanta.
I first became aware of Project GRAD in 2003. I went on my first Walk For Success at South Atlanta High school. It was a chilly Saturday morning, as we knocked on the doors of ninth graders, introducing the opportunity to sign the GRAD scholarship covenant so they could earn the $4,000 GRAD Scholarship. Up and down Jonesboro Rd. we knocked on doors and stood in the living rooms of families encouraging the student and parent to sign the document. I was impressed then, but since then, I am much more familiar and I am hooked! Project GRAD is THE local leader in college readiness. Their program is unique because of their holistic attempt to provide students and their parents with college readiness. They do not select only the top students and their scholarships may be used at any accredited college around the nation. They serve a population that is primarily first generation college bound students and for many families GRAD is their first exposure to college.
Without question, Project GRAD Atlanta has helped the Atlanta Public Schools make an impact the needle on college awareness, readiness, and college enrollment.
As the coordinator of the Early College Program at Georgia State University, I have had the privilege of working with Project GRAD for close to five years. Over the years, they have proven to be supportive to the Early College students in the students' efforts to successfully earn college credits while in high school as well as take part in study abroad opportunities. Project GRAD has consistently paid for Carver Early College and Washington Early College students to take a 2-credit course at GSU in conjunction with their study aborad trips. This class represents the students' entry into college-level courses within a small, nonthreatening, and supportive environment. Additionally, Project GRAD has supported two Saturday Academies at GSU in support of the Early College program. Once again their support allowed the students the opportunity to enter GSU girded with the proper academic and social preparation. Project GRAD has proven to be an invaluable partner to and supporter of the GSU/Early College program.
Project GRAD Atlanta is making great progress with their work within the Atlanta Public Schools. The increase of the graduation rates since the existence of the organization is tremendous! Their ability to work with the students throughout high school and provide a scholarship to college, sets them apart from many other organizations. A major selling point is their continued support of the students once they enter college. Many organizations seek to get students there, Project GRAD Atlanta seeks to get students to college prepared, and go the distance to ensure they are successful once they arrive on campus! Kudos!!
Having served on the Project grad board for more than 3-years, I can truly state with confidence, that Project Grad is an outstanding provider of opportunity for young people wanting to further their education. Project Grad's mission and purpose is helping youth tp dream beyond their borders and to make those powerful dreams to become their reality. The staff and volunteers at Project grad are dedidcated seasoned professionals, who in addition to being hardworking are caring and principled individuals working to get kids through college.
I have served on the Project GRAD Board for more than five years and each has been a very rewarding experience. This is a very important organization because it makes differences that are sorely needed. Students who are unlikely to succeed under normal circumstances are able to do so because of what Project GRAD does. Graduation and matriculation rates have increased because of Project GRAD and so has the inspiration to achieve along with the belief by students that they can. It is a critically important post-secondary readiness program that deserves extensive support.
I have been a Board member of GRAD for five yerars now, serving as Chair for two years. In my experience, GRAD has both a terrific mission and staff committed to executing that mission. It sets assessable goals and does an excellent job measuring its progress against those goals. Worthy of all our support.
I have been involved with GRAD Atlanta for several years now and have always been impressed by their commitment to our children and their success in navigating turbulent times. One criticism I have had of certain non-profits over the years is that always want to do more but never look at roles thay have served that are being served better by others or whose time has passed. That has never been the case for GRAD. They are constantly examining and re-examining the work they do. GRAD is extremely worthy of our support.
For the past 11 years, I have worked directly with Project GRAD as a teacher in Atlanta Public Schools high schools served by GRAD and Summer Institute teacher. For the last four of these years, I have served as the GRAD Summer Institute Site Coordinator at our partner institution, Emory University. I have seen, through varied lenses, the deep and strategic impact that GRAD has had on the Atlanta Public Schools at the high school level. GRAD has greatly influenced students, parents, business/community leaders, administrators, teachers and higher education partners to be more focused on the foundational preparation needed to undergird the dream of going to college. GRAD is an effective, practical, and valuable reform within its target ausdience schools.
I have worked directly with Project Grad to help increase awareness of programs focused on improving high school graduation rates and the success stories that come from such work. The Executive Director and staff at Project Grad are experts in their field, strategic thinkers and caring mentors. This program is truly making a difference in the lives of students. The results are measurable, apparent and worthy of mention. Project Grad is an important component of the Atlanta educational model and deserves continued financial support from the community.
I have been involved with Project GRAD as a board member for just under a year. My company is also an active financial contributor to the organization. It has been a priviledge to witness the committment and expertise of the Project GRAD board at work in making real and measurable impact on the lives of students in the Atlanta School District.
I have been involved with project Grad for a couple of years. I have found this organization to be totally committed in its efforts in assisting students to graduate high school and obtain a college degree. The staff is hardworking and dedicated and maximize the dollars that are entrusted to its care for the better of the students and parenst they serve.
Congratulations on a job well done!
Project GRAD Atlanta has true commitment to its core mission of providing guidance, support, and incentives to public school students in under-served and under-resourced neighborhoods to ensure that those students have a real shot at not just graduating from high school but also succeeding in college afterwards. Unfortunately, Project GRAD Atlanta has directly suffered from the problems and challenges faced by APS and the current economic downturn. Project GRAD Atlanta has overcome these challenges through creative commitment to its mission and its participants -- at the sacrifice of its very committed staff. Project GRAD Atlanta is really an example of that saying "They have done so much with so little for so long that they can now do the impossible with nothing." Imagine what this dedicated and focused non-profit could do when fully resourced.
I was conducting a study on science and mathematics teachers and was having trouble identifying teachers to participate. I sought the expertise and networks of PROJECT GRAD ATLANTA --and they delivered. The staff responded immediately to my needs, worked intensely to help identify teachers, contacted several teachers on my behalf and recruited them into my study. My study would not have been completed without the expertise and support of PROJECT GRAD ATLANTA. THANK YOU!!
The Atlanta Public School system has been under much scrutiny since it was revealed in July 2011 there was evidence of a widespread cheating scandal, however it is important to remember that there are many, many outstanding students, teachers, administrators and supporters of the system who have not been involved and don't deserve to be dragged down as a result of some bad apples and a situation that continues to be fully investigated and rectified. A perfect example of both progress and success comes through the work the nonprofit Project GRAD Atlanta is doing. The organization is making a significant impact through its mission to engage in collaborative efforts with Atlanta Public Schools to increase the number of students graduating from high schools and colleges. Under the leadership of executive director Dr. Yolanda Watson Spiva,
the number of Brumley-GRAD Scholars has increased by 55% the last three years, from 159 in 2008, to 289 in 2011. They have now awarded more than $1.5 million in scholarships to students to date, and the number of B-G Scholars has exceeded 1,750 total scholars from traditionally underrepresented groups who tend to be low-income and first-generation college students. This is an organization that needs to be recognized as a difference maker and clearly supports the premise that there is some extraordinary work being done by students enrolled in the Atlanta Public School system.
As the CEO/Founder of God's Hands & Feet Global Ministry, I've often witnessed non-profit programs that initially begin with the best of intentions and great fervor only to quickly start and burn out with little or no results left in their wake, especially as it pertains to the youth in the community and their education. When I first encountered Project Grad and was introduced to the Executive Director Dr. Yolanda Watson-Spiva, I was impressed by her and the staff of this program and their level of commitment and dedication to accomplishing the mission of increasing the number of students who graduate from high school and continue on their academic journey by entering college with clearly defined goals which will lead to successful completion of college as well.
I am the CEO of GivingPoint, one of PROJECT GRAD ATLANTA's partners to increase volunteerism and keep student engaged in school and community. They are wonderful. Through our partnership we are helping more than 1,000 students get meaningful volunteer opportunities, lead social entrepreneurial projects, and create robust civic transcripts.
