Causes: Animals, Fisheries Resources, Protection of Endangered Species, Wildlife Sanctuaries
Mission: To protect and care for endagered birds in indonesian rain forest and to raise awareness of the need for conservation of these species.
Programs: Parrot rehabilitation and release center:following a confiscation of rare birds from smugglers, birds are brought to the rehabilitation center, kembali bebas ("return to freedom") and cared for until they are able to be released back into their natural habitat, the indonesian rainforest. Released birds appear to be surviving based on follow up observations.
education and conseervation awareness:program introduces conservaton and pride to the children of indonesia. By instilling such concern i the younger generation, the illegal trade may be curtailed in the future. The program targets both the eastern part of the archipelago, where trapping occurs, and the western, where smuggled birds end up. Tlaks are given at the grade and high schools in jakarta.
merchandise sales:include malucca nuts provided by villages in indonesia to establish an alternative sustainable source of income instaed of bird poaching. Other merchandise includes t-shirts and dvd's.
