Pro Mujer is an organizations that has impacted the lives of many women in South and Central America. This organization has informed and enabled women to support themselves and their children. The organization has also spearheaded a movement to better inform women of preventative health care for themselves and their children.
I was fortunate enough to visit a center in Argentina when the women were coming together to discuss their progress in their businesses. I particularly remember one woman who quietly sat through the meeting and said nothing at first. When she finally spoke up,she had stated that her husband and mother had strongly discouraged her from participating in the program and offered her no support. She persisted because the staff and women at Pro Mujer had supported and encouraged her to keep working at her little business. She said that without this kind of support, she would not have been able to do this. She has now shown her mother and husband the benefits and the profits, and now they have begun to support her efforts, but she feels that if it hadn't been for Pro Mujer, she would not have been able to accomplish all of this. She moved many in the group to tears. It is this kind of impact that ProMujer has on its women, and I strongly suggest that this work be continued in support of women and their children. They are our future, and Pro Mujer has hand in shaping a better world.
I have been a donor for over 10 years. I have seen the effectiveness of microfinancing and the professionalism of this organization. An excellent way of fighting poverty in these countries is to empower the people to create their own businesses.
One clear measurement of the effectiveness of Pro Mujer as an NGO is the ratio of employees working in country versus headquarter staff. With most of Pro Mujer employees being in Latin America and having a small HQ staff indicates a well-run and efficient organization.
I am impressed by Pro Mujer's mission to provide poor women in latin America with the tools to create small business income for themselves and more opportunities for their families. The combination of microfinance, business training, and healthcare support gives the women so much more than funds; the focus is on long term success and independence. I plan to donate and or volunteer in the future.
we are a ngo in india doing micro finance to yhe poor women dev elopmental activities. my self has attended the 30 th international dailoug program org by grameen trust and grameen bank in dhaka , bangladeh, with prof. younusji,, we have lot of experience in micro finance to make shgs and how to get loans and to re pay all we will teach them in advance. one month with prof. younas on micro finance training. my name is mr. b.babu rao secretary sgss, ngo./
I am a donor and former volunteer. I have given a huge amount of my time to this organization because of its vision, mission and execution. Not only has Pro Mujer helped over a million women and their families to find dignity through being able to build a livelihood but they always share their learnings and have been a role model for other NGOs throughout the world. Microfinance, Health services, Training all done at a local level by dedicated and fantastic staff is a winning model to change the face of poverty for this generation and the next.
I would have loved to write a positive review because I am sure that the Pro Mujer is doing a great job! but you asked us to write about our personal experience and my personal experience with this organization is very negative. I wrote to them on many occasions asking them to help me help the women of the VRAE, women who are suffering unimaginable hardships, women teachers, women in the fields, women mothers who would love to have the opportunity for a micro impresa loan. Not once were my emails answered. Maybe I do not know how to write or express myself but I expected a helping hand letter at least of encouragement when I by myself am trying to do the work the Pro Mujer is doing with so many administration hands and so much donated dollars. As the hungry Lazzrus said in the Bible, ‘Can I sit underneath the table to at least eat the crumbs which fall down?’
I worked in Nicaragua with another NGO dealing with impoverished populations and education that was located across the street from Pro Mujer in Masaya and had the wonderful opportunity to PERSONALLY meet many wonderful women (often on that street) positively affected by the role Pro Mujer played in their lives. I have heard directly from the mouth's of these women! This organization is so COMPLETELY NECESSARY in the lives of these women so unfairly plunged into an environment that often neglects, disenfranchises, and oppresses them simply for their gender. Beyond that, this organization is improving the plight of women everywhere, and thus the world at large. This is a truly GREAT NONPROFIT and deserves to be recognized as such. Thank you.
Pro Mujer 's slogan is "Where your word counts". I love that! The women who borrow money know that other women are relying on them to work hard and repay their loans. This is the first step in the empowerment that Pro Mujer engenders.
By now, everyone knows that women are the foundation of successful micro economies (family, home, community). Pro Mujer puts this truth at the center of its programs. Working in Latin America, it provides 250,000 low-income women with business training, small loans and preventative health care, thus helping women with virtually no resources to upgrade their income and their well-being and the well-being of their children.
This is Pro Mujer’s mission - to provide the supports that enable women to transform their lives by their own work and diligence. It has pursued this mission with discipline, skill, compassion, and transparency for 22 years, making it one of the most profoundly proven women-focused sustainable development organizations in Latin America.
I am a current donor and former board member of Pro Mujer. I am also an industry expert, and served for over 13 years as director of an association of microfinance organizations. I became committed to Pro Mujer because the organization's focus on poverty alleviation through its focus on women is compelling. It has never lost sight of that goal in the pursuit of profit, and it has conscientiously worked to track its performance and increase its effectiveness year after year. The staff are committed, the board provides strong oversight and expertise to the institution, and its founders remain keepers of the vision for all engaged in the endeavor. I have heard its clients speak eloquently of the profound transformative effects that they've experienced through their participation in the program, and I've seen the economic effects in their households.
Pro Mujer does excellent work. I worked with them on a project to develop more flexible lending products for their clients. However they go far beyond that also providing short trainings, and also basic health services. Most importantly for many of the members they form a community of support among the women.
I first encountered about Pro Mujer while searching for an assigned school report about global woman leaders who are creating positive change for other women. Pro Mujer truly captured my full attention and interest when finding out that this organization assists and provides poor Latin American women with the opportunity to develop leadership skills, a healthy well-being and of course business opportunity. There is such an amazing connection and respect that I have for this organization, I personally come from a Bolivian background and understand just how difficult it is in all Latin American countries for all women. I was born in the United States and hold my culture and roots with such pride! Pro Mujer has created such an empowering and positive effective change for all Latin American women. I as a women feel great honor in knowing that women are working hard within these sectors by transforming other women's lives for better.
ProMujer is a wonderful organization, providing unique support to women in Latin America by truly passionate people.
Compared to similar NGO's in the field I have found that Pro Mujer distinguishes itself by being a very effectively run organisation with a great heart for the people part of their network. Pro Mujer are life changers, their grassroots impact is very tangible. You just have to listen and talk to the women in the communal banks to realise that a more hopeful world opened up to them once they were part of the group. The future is bright and "red" when the Pro Mujeres are around, that's what I have learned.
We are priviliged to support the mission and commitment of Pro Mujer to the women of Latin America. Our small loan gives us an opportunity to be a part of an organization that believes in women and helps them to be successful entrpreneurs, break down barriers and become self-sustaining.
I have watched the influence of Pro Mujer grow substantially over the years. I have visited all the countries where they are based and recognize how vitally important their work is. In addition to the modest loans they make to individual women they go the extra mile, offering classes in health care, internet access, child care, and business. Their work has transformed lives and will continue to bless each generation.
Pro Mujer is a great organization that really empowers women. I really hope they get bigger and expand to more countries.
Promujer is an amazing organization whose main purpose is to serve their clients in the best possible way. They have 100 health clinics, they have daycare centers, computer and internet services to name a few. I dont know any other to provide such a complete package to women entreprenuers.
PRomujer is an example of hard working and passionate people that not only offers credit to women they offer the opportunity to be someone and empower themselves through development and friendship. I love the way they work!
Pro Mujer is empowering incredibly poor women throughout Latin America to change their own lives. Their children will live better, healthier, more financially secure lives thanks to Pro Mujer's winning combination of small loans, health care, and training.
I first experienced working with ProMujer in 2007 when I founded a microfinance service trip to Bolivia through my university, Boston College. Through the partnership with Foundations for Sustainable Development, a group of us spent a week with ProMujer in Cochabamba, Bolivia interacting with clients at various local branches. After seeing the impact of ProMujer on its clients and the empowerment it gives women, my disposition of microfinance as a viable means for a family's sustainability strengthened. Starting in 2008, I partook in ProMujer's junior committee for 2 and a half years, mainly in the fundraising area. I highly recommend ProMujer as one of the top great nonprofits for all their efforts to help women support themselves and their families.
My dream job is to work for Pro Mujer! The work they do is so important and so necessary. Their programs are amazing and you can tell that their leadership is passionate about their mission.
Pro Mujer is a smart and effective solution that provides women with the necessary resources to achieve their full potential. The unique Pro Mujer model that combines credit, business training, and healthcare gives women the opportunities necessary to succeed and empower themselves. By further growing its operations, the organization will have a lasting impact on society globally.
Pro Mujer has made great strides among women in Latin America--helping them help themselves. The organization not only provides credit opportunities, but also the capacity and self confidence support essential for responsible assistance. These women, through Pro Mujer, have improved the livelihoods of families across the region. Now, Pro Mujer is poised to expand operations, apply a proven model, and achieve high level social and financial performance in new countries. I do not doubt their future success.
The entire Pro Mujer organization - Board and staff - are commited to working together to help women become agents of change at home and in their communities. We use a multidimensional approach providing clients with small loans, business and empowerment training, and low cost primary health care. We hold ourselves to a very high standard, and believe that we are one of the most efficient and impactful organization in addressing the problems of women living in extreme poverty.
Almost 20 years ago, well maybe longer now, I was asked to help move incorporation papers through the process for Pro Mujer. I was happy to do this as it seemed like a worthwhile endeavor. Then I visited Bolivia to see the program myself and was hooked! My first visit to the Friday meetings for the communal banks made me fall in love with these women..... many of whom had walked many many miles to get to the center in El Alto. I learned on that first visit why people worship the sun.... you will do almost anything to find that little sliver of sun to stand in for a few minutes 'cause it's cold and windy most of the time. The women were greeted to the smell of someone baking hot rolls and making hot beverages..... for many of them it would be one of their two meals that day.... which they consumed with gusto and smiles. Then the banking activity began.... the women had formed and named their banks, each having I believe 5 or 6 women each. They sat around tables carefully counting out what they would be required to payback as a portion of their loans and what they were required to save. I was fascinated with their hands.....turned deep brown by the sun, rough and often gnarled....even the young women. I discovered later that many who looked in their 60s were in their 30s or 40s.... or younger. These women were not numerate nor literate, but really smart and eventually were using calculators and took leadership positions in the group. They supported one another in so many ways and not the least being they had to kick in any money owed by a member who was not there that day.... a good incentive to make it each week and this incredible community developed. Once in awhile a husband or partner would appear to pay the client's share if they couldn't be there. Then the training in empowerment began, how to be and stay healthy and how to get your children an education, etc. The trainers were wonderful and it was a joy to watch. At the end of the day there was music and a little dancing.... Pro Mujer is now in a total of 5 countries and the success of the women and their families is fully documented. Over the years it's been wonderful to learn from these women (and their children) how much Pro Mujer changed their lives. Supporting this organization is one of the activities that reminds me how much good and kindness and generosity there is in the world. Jeanniemack
Pro Mujer is a great organization making a big impact in Latin America. Combining Microfinance, health services and business education is an innovative model and demonstrates that an integrative approach is the key to success. Their leadership and staff is deeply committed to empowering Latin American Women.
The great job that Pro Mujer is doing in Latin America is really amazing. You can only see in the faces of the women (and families) the happiness and hopeful possibility to grow up after the contact with the Institution.
I am continually impressed with the wonderful work that Pro Mujer is doing in Latin America. I will continue to follow them as they change the world!
Pro Mujer is an absolutely amazing organization. Each time I volunteer I am newly inspired and moritvate by the fantastic women Pro Mujer supports. I am quite sure that I get more from volunteering my time than Pro Mujer and the women it supports get from me.
I have known Pro Mujer for over 10 years and am continually impressed with how the board and management are committed to the mission and equally committed to reflect as an organization on how to improve systems, proceses and management to deliver greater impact. I had an opportunity to talk to one of the clients in Bolivia. She sat with her daughter, who also was a Pro Mujer client. I asked her why, since she was obviously a seasoned client, did she not get her loan from a commercial bank now that she had a good credit history and experience. She looked at me in disbielief and said that Pro Mujer believed in her when she didn't even believe in herself and for that, she would always be a Pro Mujer "socia".
The clearest indications of Pro Mujer's commitment are the success of it clients and their enthusiasm for Pro Mujer. I have witnessed the pride of the women clients in themselves--their viable businesses, their opportunities for leadership within the Pro Mujer village banks, and their hard-earned confidence. Clients have proudly told how their children are now attending university--from the poorest of the poor to professional class in a single generation! Pro Mujer is strongly mission-focused, and it resonates throughout the staff. As a volunteer and former board member, I have seen the organization mature and top-quality leadership brought in.
Pro Mujer is an organization that gives women pride in being who they are. Through small loans, primary health care and various forms of education including empowerment, Pro Mujer clients are lifted from poverty and become productive members of society. What is most important, is that by doing so, the cycle of poverty is broken for the next generation. I have been a proud donor to this organization for almost 10 years and have witnessed first hand how my investments are being used.
I AM IN CHARGE OF MY FAMILY'S CHARITABLE FOUNDATION.I HAVE SPENT A GREAT DEAL OF MY TIME SEARCHING FOR THE BEST CHARITIES TO DONATE TO. PRO MUJER IS OUR #1 CHARITY. BASED ON THE QUALITY OF THEIR ORGANIZATIONAL STAFF,EFFECTIVENESS OF THEIR SUCCESSFUL PROGRAMS AND OPEN TRANSPARENCY OF THEIR OPERATION. I HAVE PERSONALLY VISITED A NUMBER OF THIER LOCATIONS IN MEXICO, PERU AND NICARAGUA AND WAS VERY POSITIVELY IMPRESSED.I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND PRO MUJER TO BE CHOSEN FOR THE AWARD. THE MORE YOU WILL LOOK INTO PRO MUJER THE MORE YOU TOO WILL BE IMPRESSED. THANK YOU....STANLEY EISENBERG
Our foundation has authorized funding of almost $3 million to Pro Mujer programs in Nicaragua, Peru, Bolivia and Argentina. We fund microfinance in 52 countries and have worked with dozens of organizations. Pro Mujer remains one of favorite and most trusted partners. We plan to continue working with Pro Mujer for years to come.
I had the honor of working with Pro Mujer for 4 years in Nicaragua, and I have since been an ongoing donor of the organization. Pro Mujer is filled with some of the most amazing people I have ever met, both staff and women participants.
I have been a supporter of Pro Mujer for many years and hope to continue to be one for many more. Their work with microfinance is of the highest caliber because of the support services, education and leadership training they offer to their microfinance clients. It is this attentive working to help women grow and prosper in all aspects of their lives which makes Pro Mujer stand out. I say this as an anthropologist who has worked with women in a number of third world countries.
In the past years I have become familiar with the work by Pro Mujer and I can say they play a vital role to empower women in Latin America, to transform their lives and those of their families. It is a very important job.
Pro Mujer is a top organization based in NYC focused on the mission to fight world poverty. Microfinance is a strong global avenue to achieve this. Pro Mujer's concentration on women in Latin America exemplifies the organization's strategy to do one thing at a time, do it very well, before moving on. The near and long term prospects for Pro Mujer are extremely promising and no doubt will be life-changing for many people across the globe. As an active volunteer, I have heard many of Pro Mujer's clients speak graciously about the results of the programs aiding business, healthcare and education. Get involved and join efforts with Pro Mujer if you feel passionate about women empowerment, local entrepreneurship, and the fight against poverty!
I am so honored to be a part of the Pro Mujer mission and family! Their work in the Latin America is groundbreaking and inspiring. Help to spread the word about Pro Mujer. -Giovanna, Junior Committe
I am particularly proud to have helped Pro Mujer's mission as a donor and past volunteer on the Junior Committee. While part of the Junior Committee I was able to travel to Nicaragua and meet some of the women and families that benefit from the services that Pro Mujer provides. There is no doubt in my mind that thousands of individuals have gained invaluable skills and self-confidence through Pro Mujer, and that they have become an integral part of their local economies as a result. Pro Mujer gives it's clients a sense of self-worth along with a community for ongoing support. These things, along with Pro Mujer's committment to women's health which is a pilar of community health, has inspired me to continue to give in any way I can.
I've been lucky enough to have had the opportunity to witness ProMujer's dedication to the empowerment of women through microfinance and other development initiatives for the past two years. Whether at a black-tie event in New York City or a local health clinic in rural Nicaragua, everyone I have come into contact with involved with ProMujer is passionate about the cause and carries a genuine belief in ProMujer's ability to affect change across the globe.
ProMujer is a wonderful organization with far reaching impact. I have had the opportunity to sit and speak with various country directors and well as communal bank directors to hear their stories about how women benefit from ProMujer's services and support network. It is not just the women who are served by ProMujer, but also their families. The numbers associated with ProMujer are astounding, 99% of the women repay their loans in full, hundred of thousands of women served, and millions more children and extended family. This means ProMujer is doing something very right. When speaking with the founders, Lynn and Carmen, and the country directors across Latin America, it is impossible not to want to help this organization and become obsessed with their mission. ProMujer is filled with such talented and dedicated people who are constantly coming up with new creative ways to approach women's empowerment in Latin America.
I am not only impressed by Pro Mujer's commitment to creating self-reliant communities but by their focus on cultivating a new generation of leaders in microfinance. Their commitment to education is evidenced by their active junior committee, their publications, and their focus on training women to better their own lives. I am impressed by Pro Mujer’s ability to connect women across the world by creating a solidarity network.
While fairly new to ProMujer, I have been consistently impressed with the organization as a whole. It's not just my faith in the staff, but also the published results of their microfinance and health initiatives providing me evidence of the impact of my donation
I have been blown away during my fairly short time with ProMujer. While the organization's holistic and effective approach to breaking the poverty cycle is what initially lead me to seek involovement with the organization, the dedication of the staff and fellow volunteers has only made me want to increase that level of support.
The integrity and innovation that underpin's Pro Mujer's work mirrors the tenacity and resources fullness of their clients. Pro Mujer remains true to and focused on their mission of empowering women, and they are rigorous about building programs that target their clients needs and about measuring their impact. I have been repeatedly impressed by the emotional intelligence and skill of Pro Mujer's staff in country and in headquarters. For all of these reasons and more, I support Pro Mujer.
i have been involved with Pro Mujer for several years now as a very vocal supporter and donor. three years ago i had the opportunity to see first hand how they work with women in latin america. i went on a Pro Mujer field trip to Peru. what truly impressed me about this "microfinance" organization is what they do for their clients' health. they very early realized that the women in this communities was the primary earner in most of the families, and without healthcare, if they became ill there would be no bread on the table. however, like everything else at Pro Mujer, the healthcare services are not free, they believe that the women should pay for what they receive. in many of their offices the first thing you see when you enter is the health clinic and not the banking side of the operation. they have documented statistics of how they have reduced breast and uterine cancer with their customers versus other community members. by dedicating their financial and health services to women they have an astounding success rate in loan payback and improved healthcare. what a truly fantastic organization. i am proud to be a very small contributor to this group.
