My organization, Girl Plus Environment, has been working with PBPA for the past three years and we've had nothing but positive experiences. PBPA has helped us to develop so many important policies and procedures for our organization and their team is always available to answer questions that we have. Our ED also participated in the PBPA Bootcamp which was very beneficial for our org while we were in our beginning stages!

As a small nonprofit, budgeting for legal counsel and advisement is a challenge. That's why we love Pro Bono! Their expert team, and the hundreds of attorney volunteers they work with, have provided us such great support over the years. We've engaged them on many legal matters, we've taken advantage of their webinars and website resources, and we are confident that we are in compliance with the laws related to maintaining our 501c3 in good standing. Thanks, Pro Bono!

Small nonprofits with limited budgets don't have easy access to legal services. Pro Bono Partnership's work has made our mission possible. I never imagine that a small nonprofit like ours would require legal help, but I soon learned that we live in a very litigious society. The volunteer lawyers matched with our organization have provided truly vital counsel that has enabled us to continue our work. We are so grateful to be a beneficiary of Pro Bono Partnership's work.

Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta is so important to Atlanta area nonprofits. I have worked with PBPA for 12 years at two different nonprofit organizations. The lawyers that have helped have done an amazing job and this partnership has saved both my organizations thousands and thousands of dollars. Note to nonprofits working with PBPA - be certain to enter the projects with PBPA as in-kind gifts in your system and please make sure to appreciate the organization because they are working very hard to connect you with the services of the kind lawyers who assist you. PBPA is our largest nonprofit, in-kind donor, most years, and we are very fortunate to have this group to turn to. Thank you PBPA!

We wanted to purchase a building in which to house an emergency shelter. The property was owned by the bank. They wanted us to accept full responsibility for the whole loan from the precious owner. Probono Atlanta went to bat for us....and it took a minute...but they finally convinced the bank to allow us to purchase the property for the amount owed. The lawyers were exceptionally patient and professional with our many questions and lack of experience in this area.
We have gone to PPA on several occassions with much less complicated issues and they handled them all, again, providing the needed information in and help in a timely manner.
This is a great organization and a life saver for small non profits who do BIG work like ours.

Earlier in 2024, the newsletter Pro Bono newsletter mentioned that corporate documentation for non profit organizations may not be in compliance with recent changes in governances by the State of Georgia. I quickly reached out for assistance since we were incorporated over 30 years ago! They asked to review a copy of the By-Laws and Articles of Incorporation for GOLDEN RETRIEVER RESCUE OF ATLANTA. They promptly made recommendations that were approved by our Board of Directors and voting members. All the attorneys we have worked with at Pro Bono are extremely professional, knowledgeable and very responsive. This legal issue was handled in exactly the same manner. Pro Bono provides a much needed and valuable service to non profit organizations in the State of Georgia that do not have a lawyer on retainer to contact. H.O.P.E, Inc. is a client of Pro Bono Legal and it has been a lifesaver for our small grassroots organization. When we first became a client we did had an operating budget of under $100k, and that was over twelve years ago. Their legal advice helped us remain a compliant organization and gave our Board a great peace of mind. When we finally became a 6-figure operating revenue organization, we underwent their legal bootcamp, and it was phenomenal! To know where you stand legally in every facet of your organization is incredible. We had been under their care for so long that we have nearly no findings (4- and most were optional things to add, in which we did). The level of credibility they gave us is invaluable. We have grown tremendously as a program and organization, bringing in over mid $500k, and they played a hand in it. THANK YOU, RACHEL, JUSTINE, AND TEAM!

Veterans Helping Veterans was founded on September 7, 2012 as a passion of Lewis Jackson to assist Veterans and their families. With that vision, he recruited the core founders whose mission became “Helping Veterans Receive Benefits and Understand Entitlements”.

Since that inception, membership is now close to 160 members strong. We are a non-profit, volunteer organization whose mission is to promote building better lives for all of our nation’s veterans and their families. We especially pride ourselves on the work we do to assist veterans with receiving their earned VA Disability benefits.

Veterans Helping Veterans also serves the community at large. We assist low-income families with food drives along with financial seminars. We also host annual Veterans Day events where we educate all ages on the rich history of the U. S. Armed Forces. Though not a political organization, we provide community residents information regarding their voting rights.

Our organization, Project Community Connections, Inc. (PCCI) has worked with Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta for over 12 years. I honestly can say that they have been critical partners with us through the best and the worst of times. PCCI is a nonprofit homeless services agency in Metro Atlanta and we have grown over the years in staffing levels, services offered and even into becoming an affordable housing developer. The Partnership has offered a myriad of legal services that helped us grow responsibly, to mitigate risk and to become a stronger organization. They helped with legal advise on employment law, general policies and procedures, board governance issues, ownership structure and complicated housing tax credit matters - just to name a few. The network of legal experts is amazing and each and every attorney has volunteered countless hours - for free - but still make us feel as important as every other client. Pro Bono Partnership provides essential services to nonprofits doing critical work in the world. Most nonprofit directors didn't start organizations because they had a love of forms, files and bylaws--usually they love serving clients and meeting needs. But for nonprofits to be truly effective they need to be well organized, structured and, above all, legal! Pro Bono Partnership takes so much of the worry out of running a small nonprofit. The peace of mind that comes with knowing that there is a team of experts ready to answer thorny legal questions, or recognize issues before the organization even seems themselves, is invaluable. Pro Bono Partnership makes our work lighter and we're so grateful.

Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta is a true SAVIOUR for our organization! There's absolutely no way we would be able to afford the legal services offered through this partnership, and definitely not the high-quality veteran attorneys in their network. As a long time for-profit business owner, I had no idea how much I didn't know about nonprofit operations, until we partnered with Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta! It's a pleasure to experience mutual respect with the ability to be vulnerable and transparent when working with the volunteer attorneys. Attending one of their workshops at the Junior League of Atlanta several years ago was one of the best decisions of my career! I look forward to continuing to partner! Everyone we encounter on the staff and in their network is pleasant, professional, and clearly believes in The Golden Rule. I am so thankful!

Delta LDC is working hard to present a professional and caring organization to the community. Our plans are to grow our organization and make it a well-known and respected name in the community. We have worked hard over the past twenty years to establish ourselves as a pillar of responsibility. We have worked hard to serve the South Dekalb community through educational forums, fiscal responsibility classes, home ownership workshops, and being a voice for those who feel they have no voice.

Our community will now see that we have grown to be a responsible, caring and organized community minded organization that they will feel proud and safe to be a part of.

Pro Bono has done so much for our urban garden non-profit that I don't know where to begin. In our first meeting, we met with 3 lawyers who helped us identify what we needed to change, file, or create to comply with regulations that would allow us to seek government-funded grants, and insure that we protect the integrity of the organization . For example, we never knew that we had to meet certain criteria just to qualify as a "public charity". Over the last year, we have received the kind of follow-up help that we never could have done ourselves.
Examples:
- One of the most important issues was helping us review employee contracts and separate them into "contractor" and "staff", with clear role delineations and payment menthods for each.
- Revising our Articles of Incorporation, drafting policies and procedures
- Drafting release forms for our clients and volunteers.
- Provinding information about insurance coverage.
. . . and so much more! ProBono has been a lifesaver for us.

Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta is loaded with extremely knowledgeable and experienced talent, and I have received their wise council on multiple occasions. Our non-profit has received the highest level of advice in multiple areas of law and even in multiple states. We had tax issues with having 2 books published, and Robyn Miller was brilliant in directing us around the tax laws which came into play to assure us that the proceeds from the book sales would go directly to the non-profit for whom the books were written. Also, there was a non-performance issue with a contract for marketing the books, and the other party was in Boston. Robyn use her network and acquired the services of a local attorney in Boston to help move our issue forward.

When hiring a new employee, our non-profit wanted to have certainty that our job description would meet the FLSA requirements, so I reached out to Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta again. I am very thankful that Robyn Miller assisted us again and gave us invaluable advise on the working of the document. Also, she reached out to another local attorney that deals with FLSA more often than Robyn does, and we received additional direction from Robyn's contact. This document was far better written thanks to their help, and I have confidence that it will accomplish our goal for having the person in the role outlined with the job description as a salaried employee, not an hourly employee.

It would be impossible for our tiny non-profit to have afforded the amazing services provided to us by Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta. The team there has invited us to fantastic classes, provided great follow up and support, and continue to offer advice and information for the challenges we face as a non-profit. We love Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta. No matter is too large or too small. Believe me, we've thrown some unique legal issues their way and they've really stepped up and rose to the challenge. The most notable case was an immigration issue with one of our staff members that took an entire EIGHT YEARS to resolve. No one would expect an organization, much less, a volunteer attorney and her staff, to stick with a case that extensive. But they did! And did it gladly and we felt like we were treated like a regular paying client (I can't even imagine what the legal costs would have been - certainly not something that a small nonprofit or its employee could afford.) We cannot say enough about the work they do. It's a vital resource for the nonprofit community in Atlanta.

Fulton County Court Appointed Special Advocates, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that trains volunteers to advocate for foster children. At our initial legal checkup meeting, I was surprised, impressed and honored to sit down with an assigned legal team headed by a project manager to talk through our needs and develop a schedule for delivery of legal services. During this past year we have even had a few unplanned emergencies that we received assistance with. Our Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta Legal Team is comprised of Atlanta's Top Attorneys. There is no way our organization could afford the caliber of legal counsel provided through Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta. On behalf of the foster children of Fulton County, many thanks to the Attorneys and Staff that unselfishly dedicates their time and expertise to serve PBPATL.

We are Exodus 321 Inc. a 501 c3 non profit organization. We serve the mentally challenged, the disabled and homeless community in the Atlanta Metropolitan area. We have transitioned over 250 persons from living in the street or in harms way, to living in safe clean long term housing. We have also assisted with the opening of over 33 homes to accommodate our at risk community. Our organization is now 11 years old and in good standing.

We were introduced to Pro Bono Partnership Lawyers of Atlanta about 6 years ago. Since then they have helped us to resolve all sorts of challenges that we have encountered. We appreciate and are more than grateful to the volunteer Lawyers of Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta., for their extraordinary patience and untiring support We know without their guidance, legal help, and many seminars and webinars, we would not be in existence to day.

I would like to share one of our many success stories with you. One of our residents was teaching school at the age of 27. He was from a very good family but when his father died he became severely challenged. At the time we met him he could hardly walk or talk, and seemed hopeless. However, after three years of good nourishment, love and understanding at our facility, in addition to the help of his family and two George State university volunteer students, this young man regained his confidence and his ability to cope. He then became a volunteer worker at a mission and was subsequently hired as a staff. Also, he worked as a math tutor with an agency. Eventually, he came to us and said "I believe I'm ready to live on my own ". He got an apartment. Went back to the university for graduate school and graduated at the top of his class. This is just one of the many lives that were changed because we had the staying power afforded to us by the Volunteer Lawyers of Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta.

I practice corporate law, and I think it is important to take on a couple of pro bono projects each year. I love the Pro Bono Project, because they make volunteering easy for the transactional lawyer. They screen clients to ascertain their exact legal needs, they break those needs down into several discreet projects if necessary, and they send out lists to potential volunteers describing both the client's mission as well as the exact parameters of the pro bono services needed. As a result, when working with the Pro Bono Project, I have never had a pro bono assignment "spiral out of control" or felt like I had gotten in over my head. The project management and support is unlike anything I have experienced and I can always find opportunities to put my skills to use while supporting a cause that is important to me on a personal level. Sometimes this work can be intimidating and I appreciate the expertise and thoroughness that everyone through Pro Bono---staff and volunteer attorneys---brought to the table.
In Peace,

I have spent the last 20+ years of my career in the non-profit sector. As such, I have had the opportunity to have several of those non-profits be accepted as clients of Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta (PBPA). It has been a wonderful experience! All of the attorneys and especially the staff of PBPA have been incredible. I do not feel that any of the nonprofit clients that I have referred could have gotten any better legal or moral support--even if the organizations had to pay. As clients, PBPA has saved these organizations thousands of dollars in legal fees, whereby adding monies to the organization's bottom line and allowing these organizations to offer greater services to the communities they serve.

I am on the board of a charity in Atlanta that serves children with incarcerated parents - kidz2leaders.org. Last year we were consdiering opening in NJ by partnering with some people from our organization who had moved from Atlanta to NJ. There were many complex licensing and IP issues to wrangle with. The Pro Bono Partnership handled them all for us expertly. We were able to put together an agreement that protected us but was not off-putting to our new sister organization. Top notch legal representation.

Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta is one of my top resources as a charity executive director. They've provided expert legal assistance through their amazing volunteers. Help on projects has ranged from creating updated bylaws that comply with our state laws, review of a contract and license agreement, and assistance with a d.b.a. In addition to one-on-one help with attorneys, PBP Atlanta offers excellent webinars and workshops on issues common to non-profit management. At our organization, we work hard to fulfill our mission, and we strive to operate a lean organization. Thanks to the good work from staff and volunteers at Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta, issues that could become problems are prevented and more of our resources can be directed to our program.

Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta makes it easy for transactional attorneys to give back to the community. Prior to volunteering with PBPA, I found it difficult to find pro bono matters that fit within my skill set. The once-a-month emails detailing available projects allows you to not only choose the level of time commitment you desire, but also choose an organization with a mission statement that speaks to you. The Executive Director, Rachel Spears, and the rest of the PBPA team are extremely nice and always willing to answer questions. I would recommend this organization to everyone!

Pro Bono Partnership makes it easy for in-house lawyers in particular to find projects that fit within their practice area and schedule. They do an amazing job of vetting clients to ensure projects are well-defined and meaningful, so both the clients and volunteer lawyer are well-prepared for the task at hand. There are always a wide variety of matters to choose from, allowing you to give as much time as you want or as little time as you have. Their lawyers and staff support you along the way with their own time and resources to ensure the project is a success. Through volunteering with PBPA over the years, I have also increased my awareness about many local non-profits with inspirational missions making big differences in our community.

Pro Bono Partnership allows attorneys to select volunteer projects of vary complexity and time commitment based on their availability. PBP's team makes the volunteer process seamless, and allows attorneys to learn about and assist deserving non-profits across Atlanta.
