Programs: The purpose of the organization is to empower incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals to reflect and reengage in their personal lives through mediation, mediation training, and conflict resolution skill development. Prison of peace has been launched in 11 california correctional facilities. Prison of peace is supported primarily through grants from the california department of corrections and rehabilitation. The prison of peace program has graduated over 1000 peacemakers and mediators and 250 of those have been released from custody with no reported returned to custody. Prison of peace peacemakers and mediators have engaged over 20,000 fellow inmates in peace making and conflict resolution processes. It is prison of peace's endeavor to teach inmates how to deescalate potentially violent situations and at the same time gain greater self confidence and affect social change. The program enables participants to develop leadership skills, serve others, control impulse behavior, and build confidence.
