Mission: Prevent child abuse north carolina (pcanc) is the only statewide organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect. Through investment in innovative programs proven to prevent child maltreatment before it occurs, pcanc helps north carolinas communities decrease factors that put children at risk for abuse and increase factors that encourage children to thrive. Through our offices in raleigh, we serve every community in north carolina.
Programs: Prevention programs - aid communities in parenting program implementation to ensure that families are getting the help they need. Provide implementation supports, coaching, technical assistance, pre-service training, and professional network supports for the incredible years parenting program in 35 counties and strengthening families program 6-11 in seven counties. Provide implementation supports, coaching, pre-service training, professional network supports, and parent leadership development for the circle of parents program in 25 counties with 38 parenting groups with an average of 97. 5% satisfaction rate. Work through a statewide prevention network of over 380 organizations and individuals to develop leadership and advocacy supports for community-based prevention organizations. Built a coalition of stakeholders dedicated to promoting evidence-based and sustainable activities to: protect children from child sexual abuse, promote safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments through essentials for childhood and child first program exploration.
public education - statewide public information and community awareness campaigns are designed to help individuals and communities understand the short- and long-term impact of child abuse and neglect, as well as to inform the public about the importance of healthy childhood growth and development. Toolkits, parenting brochures, statistics and research, and skill building tips are provided to all 100 counties and over 12,500 organizations and individuals across the state with 87% of communities reporting active participation in awareness activities. Information is provided to all interested citizens in regards to accessing parenting support in local communities, 800-line for information and referral services, and web-based training on how to recognize and respond to child maltreatment.
training and professional development - provided a total of 16 training, consultation and professional network opportunities statewide and hosted one statewide learning & leadership summit serving over 2,179 professionals and individuals. Training includes online, self-guided tools with built-in knowledge assessments, pre-service program training, parent support and leadership development, ongoing child maltreatment prevention webinars, and fatherhood engagement.
