Mission: Press photographers association of greater los angeles (ppagla) promotes press photography, and advocates for industry integrity and positive relationships when covering a vast array of news and feature stories.
Programs: Ppagla is bringing greater respect to the news media. It strives to create positive relationships with local police and fire departments, foster communication among members, advocates for industry ethics and integrity amongst the news media, and educates young news photographers. Ppagla brings respect to the part of the news media that previously had been seen as second tier to news reporters and writers. To accomplish this, ppagla serves as a broad umbrella organization for news photographers from various media, including television, newspapers, magazines and wire services. Ppagla fosters communication among its members via newsletters and a book that has been published annually since 1954. They are given to members, public safety officials, and libraries. Ppagla has deep relationships with college journalism departments in greater los angeles. We conduct student seminars with photojournalism students to discuss the latest technological developments to encourage learning and professionalism. Ppagla also sponsors an annual awards dinner recognizing prominent photographers to discuss their accomplishments.
ppagla grants a scholarship to two students per year. Funds for the scholarships are donated from the past presidents and retired members' scholarship fund, and the recipients are chosen anonymously.
