The Executive Director' allocation of time and resources to embrace programming which supports toddlers, reinforces other programming, educating children as soon as they are able to expand their senses.
As a Visual Artist, who also teaches children ages 5 -12, I see how amazingly imaginative youth are. The Prescott Joseph Center's excellent Summer Art Program motivates youth to be creative in ways that enhance their knowledge. The Pre-school
continues during the summer, as a very rewarding program for families.
I have been a volunteer with PJC since 2000. I started out teaching asthma education to elementary school children in West Oakland. In 2009 the BreathMobile(r) started so that school children could have a mobile medical clinic come to them to deliver asthma medical care - for FREE!
We started with 6 schools and now go to 22 schools from Hayward to North Richmond. We are grant funded and can serve any family that asks for our help. In addition we provide economic development to our communities by offering on-the-job training to new grads in health care fields with a stipend.
I'm so proud to be able to serve our neighbors in this way.
Prescott Joseph Center is a pillar in the West Oakland community. It provides different services such as the BreathMobile and the Pre-Pre school to local residents free of charge. My experience has been nothing but pleasant and I hope for many more years of growth and success!
Wonderful organization dong excellent work for West Oakland's most vulnerable. Their many programs are worthwhile and much-needed. The Food Pantry provides emergency food, the Pre-preschool is a high caliber child development and education program focused on providing everything from early literacy and math, to arts and gardening projects for preschool and kindergarten readiness. The Northern California Breathmobile (R), the only mobile asthma clinic in Northern CA, provides a variety of asthma care services to school children in Alameda, Contra Costa and San Francisco Counties. Prescott Joseph is making a real difference in Bay Area communities by operating the one and only Breathmobile® in Northern California. Weekly this 33 ft. Winnebago RV, outfitted with the latest equipment to function as a mobile asthma clinic, visits some 200 kids at various schools around the Bay Area. Through the Breathmobile's vital work, positive outcomes are being realized every day. In low income communities, 200 high-risk children with asthma have increased their asthma management skills and 85% of these children have gained control of their asthma within 5 Breathmobile visits. As a result, local asthma-related Emergency Room visits and hospitalizations have declined by 70% for high-risk children. As well, asthma-related school absenteeism has also declined by 70%. It's an honor to be part of an organization that is truly serving the needs of those who are at risk.
