I wish Pres House was the vibrant community it is today when I was an undergraduate. It’s an incredible place for students to thrive on UW’s campus and find their spiritual and emotional home.
Pres House is a fantastic organization dedicated to encouraging diversity and inclusivity in the community of Madison, Wisconsin. The members (students, board, etc.) are dedicated to propelling Pres House forward and making it accessible to those from all walks of life.
Pres house is a very welcoming and exciting community for students at UW Madison. From weekly dinners to retreats to break with a purpose, there are meaningful things to do and awesome people to know. I give my time to this organization because they make a positive difference in students lives.
Have you ever served on a Board of Directors where half the members are students? A key to Pres House success is the investment in and by student leaders at the very core of business, governance, and organization. First person experiences, stories from small and large group gatherings, truth-telling about challenges and successes--all brought to the table by our youth. They serve to educate the rest of us in our many walks of life. In the end, we all grow from this mix.
Pres House is a creative community in the heart of the UW-Madison campus. It is a campus ministry of the Presbyterian Church USA, and offers students everything they are looking for in a community of faith. But, it is also more than that. It is a risk-taking organization that provides student housing that goes beyond a place to sleep, it is a campus community leader that is not afraid to address the challenging issues facing young adults today, and it is a innovator constantly looking for the places it can help students and young adults grow stronger together in faith. This is a place where any UW-Madison student should look for a home away from home.
I have been privileged to be on the Board of Directors of Pres House for the past 5 years. Pres House, which almost died two decades ago, has developed into one of the finest campus ministries in the nation, thanks to exceptional staff leadership and a Board of Directors that had the courage to take some risks. it is a now a model for other campus ministries to pursue which may be at risk of closing.
Pres House has been the best community that I've been a part of over the past several years. It's the first place on campus that made me feel like I belonged and had a home in Madison. I've made friendships that I can imagine lasting for the rest of my life, grown in both my personal and faith journeys and become so involved that most of my free time is spent at Pres House. I know that there will be a day when I have to leave, and it will be a bittersweet ending that I wish would never come. I take solace in knowing that the connections I've made here will always be available to me for love and support.
This vibrant Christian community right on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus provides a wealth of opportunities for social and spiritual growth of undergraduate and graduate students. Sunday evening nondenominational services welcome individuals of all backgrounds, and follow the service with a meal to create a stronger sense of community. Small groups range from spiritual growth to social justice to community action. The inclusive community has become a gathering place for individuals of different racial and ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, and religious traditions. I admire the way in which the pastors have created a space in which students can grow personally, spiritually, and in community with peers of diverse backgrounds.
As a student who has been a part of this organization for the past 2+ years, I can't say enough good things! It has provided me with a welcoming spiritual community for me to grow in my faith, and given me the resources to serve the community in unique and fun ways. Would highly recommend.
I have been involved in Pres house since my first week as an undergraduate on the UW campus. The community has always been so welcoming, and has always helped to make me feel at home and has been a place that encourages me to take control of my faith journey while in meaningful fellowship with peers, the pastors and many others from the greater Madison community. I’ve had the chance to get involved at Pres House on so many levels ranging from Freshman Connection Small Group to the Organization’s Board if Directors. I would highly recommend this place to any student at UW Madison who is seeking a place of worship or simply a caring community!
Pres House is where I call home at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I have been apart of this organization since my first days at the university, and it has been the greatest contributor to my success at this campus. It is where I forged my closest friendships, where I have played the role of student leader, and where I find spiritual nourishment several times a week. My quality of life has been made better in all ways by the people and power of Pres House.
