The Home provided an absolute amazing “home” for me! I am so grateful for the opportunities it provided: safety, security, belief in what could be if I would apply myself all the while trusting in God’s plans for my life, no longer going hungry, understanding of what family should be, and so much more. So thankful for their ministry.
The PHFC is a wonderful organization that has a dedicated staff and an army of church volunteers who are passionate about the people they serve. They are changing lives and do an amazing job.
I have financially supported PHC for several years, we visited a few years ago for the first bicycle ride (before my New Year 2018 cancer diagnosis). I follow on Facebook and through the newsletters. They are doing God's work, caring for children, youth, mother's, and families. "Let these little ones come to me, and hinder them not." Government Street Presbyterian in Mobile AL are delighted to host groups at our Baytreat property on Mobile and at worship in our sanctuary.
As a pastor, I have been associated with The Presbyterian Home for Children for over 20 years, in one way or another. A few years ago, I was on staff, and I was awed by the professionalism and the commitment of the staff there. They join together as a team, and change the world, one person at a time. There is no doubt that they truly care for the people they serve, and they provide excellent services to help people not only survive terrible circumstances, but to grow and thrive as the individuals and families God wills for them to be. They share God's love in ways that change the world. I am proud to say that I work for them and with them in their mission. I can think of no better non-profit organization.
What a wonderful team to work with. They all have a servants heart and it shows in all they do. I have had the honor of working closely with the management team over the past few years as they updated both programs and practices and it is refreshing to see a group driven to do things the right way! The Presbyterian Home for Children continues to do amazing work serving children and families in our community and demonstrating God's love individually to each of them. I'm very proud of the work done there through the leadership provided by the Board, Doug Marshall & the other teachers, counselor and administrators. This is an organization of excellence.

Our group from Cahaba Springs Presbyterian Church has volunteered at PHFC for many years and were able to see the results of the work accomplished there. Many at-risk children grew to be productive citizens.
I grew up in Talladega, and had friends that went to school with me that lived at the Presbyterian Home. Several of the girls would come spend the weekend with my family. Later they rotated churches and came to my church. When I finished college, I interviewed with Mr. Uptain. He asked me to work for a month in the behavioral cottage to see if I was a good fit. I enjoyed working at the Presbyterian Home and Mr. Uptain offered me a job. I declined the job offer and went to work for AIDB where I taught for 28 years. I still had connects over the years with the Presbyterian Home, and have always supported PHC.
Two years ago, I retired and became the Executive Director for the United Way of North Talladega County and met Doug. He and I have worked with the families at the Home.
Last week, a group from Robinson Cottage and staff helped with one of our food distributions. The girls worked and provided fresh produce boxes for 400 families.
I am very proud to have friends that support each other in the nonprofit world.
I am a busy person and choose my charitable affiliations carefully. The Presbyterian Home for Children cares for children who are disadvantaged at no fault of their own. They are often in despair before they come to the Home. For 150 years the Presbyterian Home for Children has been offering God’s love in a safe environment. I am honored to support the talented and caring staff in their mission to help these children and if necessary their families.
After being involved with the Presbyterian Home for Children and the services they provide, I am always in awe relative to their vision for providing needed services for individuals in need. Their services have evolved throughout the past 150 years to address the societal needs of different periods of time. This is a non-profit guided by God to serve individuals and help them become the individuals God intended them to be.
I have interacted with the senior leadership of this terrific organization several times and found them to be genuine caring, fiscally responsible, dedicated to the community and overwhelmingly of great benefit to the children and families they serve. What an amazing organization!

Many many years ago on my first trip visiting the home I brought a group from our church to volunteer for a weekend.
I was very impressed with what the mission of the home was then and how it continues to adapt to the times and the needs of those it serves.
That weekend we did a few needed projects around the campus and got the pleasure to spend time with the residents as well. It’s great to go volunteer but the time spent with the residents is a blessing! They are so bright, so sweet, and so full of life. I know the residents enjoy the time together but it’s hard to say who really gets more from it, them or us.
This particular time we stayed in one of the cottages that shared a large concrete slab porch with another cottage. And in that other cottage was a family that had just recently moved to the home. I could see the face of a small child peak through the window of the door and when I would look at the child he or she would close the curtain quickly. I saw toys on the porch so I knew the child had to come out to play. This went on for a couple days and in conversation with the then president of the home I mentioned this. He told me that this family had been abused badly by an adult male and the children were extremely afraid of adult males. This was heart breaking to me. Why anyone could do such a thing is what I continued to ask myself.
After that trip to the home it was about a year before I was able to visit again. It just so happened that we stayed in the same cottage again. It would also happen that the same family was living in the cottage across the porch. But things were different than the previous year. This year the children came out of the house, they played with their toys, laughed, and had a good time. They spoke to me and weren’t afraid anymore. They of course didn’t remember me but I remembered them.
I’ve seen first hand what amazing work the home does. I know it isn’t easy but the rewards of helping those in need far outweigh anything else. This is how everyone working at the home and those who volunteer at the home feel.
This home is an amazing place doing amazing things for those it serves.

The Presbyterian Home for Children has been helping children in Alabama for over 150 years. They have adjusted and moved with the times seeking to serve the most vulnerable at their time of need. This is an excellently run non profit with a mission to serve others in need.
I first came to PHFC 5 years ago as a volunteer on a weekend mission trip with our yeoman work group from Spring Hill Presbyterian Church, Mobile, AL (approx 4 hours from Talladega, AL). After 2 interactive, productive, and fun workdays with some of the residents, staff and fellow volunteers, I returned home to Mobile so enlightened and uplifted by the love and caring that I had felt throughout the entire campus during my time there. I couldn't wait to go back and have done so several times a year with volunteer groups, with my wife, and at times by myself. I'm still volunteering and also serving on the Board of Trustees and making new friends. Needless to say, I'm extremely proud to be involved with this great, caring organization. Presbyterian Home For Children is a wonderful organization dedicated to helping children and their families in need. From the offsite school to the thrift store, PHFC does a great job in stewarding their resources to maximize the impact in both the individuals and the broader community. Located next to the AIDB also gives the PHFC an opportunity to partner with another great Alabama charity to extend their impact even more broadly. I would definitely recommend visiting the home and/or school to see for yourself the impact they have each and every day.

My experience with Presbyterian Home for Children has been from the employment/HR side with their staff. I'm their HR Consultant and what is clear and evident to me is how much each of the staff members truly have a servant's heart. Specifically, I see how important it is to them that they recruit and retain the best employees that truly do believe in Presbyterian's Home for Children mission and vision. They have also shown through performance how they care for and take care of their own employees by offering competitive benefits and pay practices while carefully balancing their fiduciary responsibilities. Without a doubt, Presbyterian Home for Children cares about helping people in need. This nonprofit has been in existence since 1868, which is such a commendable accomplishment! PHFC provides a safe place for women and children in crisis and for young girls and young adult women who have experienced neglect and need a safe shelter away from their past trauma.
The nonprofit is led by Doug Marshall (President/CEO), who is the perfect person for this job. Not only does he have the leadership instincts and nonprofit knowledge necessary to lead this nonprofit, he has such a passion for the work they do and the people they help. You can tell he loves his job because he smiles when he has the opportunity to tell someone about PHFC. He's proud of his staff and their hard work, too.

A few years ago, a woman visiting my church confided in me that she and her children were from another state and were escaping an abusive domestic situation. She told me that she and her children were residing at the Presbyterian Home for Children.
Today she and her children are doing well and the domestic abuse they previously suffered is a distant memory, thanks to the services offered by the Presbyterian Home for Children. This is just one of thousands of stories about lives that have been changed by this necessary ministry for more than a hundred years, and Lord willing, there will be many more.
I have known of the great work of the Presbyterian Home for Children for many years, but it wasn't until I had occasion to work directly with the leadership team of the Home that I realized the expertise and the servant heart it takes to help some of Alabama's most needy children. I have had extensive discussions with their leadership, and I know how much they care for the families they serve and how hard they work. I have experienced domestic violence in my family, and it touches me that if my family weren't blessed with the resources we have, my child and grandchildren could be seeking help at the Home. We are fortunate to have such a resource.
