Mission: Prepare and prosper is dedicated to providing high quality tax preparation and related financial services to individuals and families of limited means by leveraging volunteer resources and advising and assisting others to provide similar services in their communities.
Programs: Tax preparation servicesprepare + prosper (p+p) strives to emulate its vision where all people have access to the resources and services they need to be financially stable. We believe now is the time for us to ensure the organization's future of progress and growth as we create long-lasting pathways to financial stability and economic mobility for people in minnesota and throughout the country. By leveraging the help of more than 540 volunteers, p+p served more than 13,200 people in the twin cities in 2015. These volunteers gave more than 24,600 hours of their time, and helped return more than $27 million in tax refunds.
financial capability servicesp+p maximizes the tax-time money moment by offering financial services and products that help households increase the financial impact of their tax refunds. In 2015, p+p served 7,000 tax payers with integrated financial services/products, as follows: 1) leveraging its "on the ground" expertise to facilitate policy change in the areas of tax credits for low-income households; 2) worked with customer year-round in reaching their financial goals through a volunteer-based financial coaching program called money mentors; 3)lead an emerging initiative called the financial access and inclusion roadmap (fair) which aims to bring to market and widely distribute a financial product to help customers transact, save, and build credit. Fair is designed to reduce reliance on the multi-billion dollar wealth-stripping financial marketplace and increase low-and-moderate income consumers' financial capability and confidence in their financial circumstances.
claim it! Campaignin 2012, p+p took over the management of the claim it! Campaign, which is designed to increase awareness about the earned income tax credit (eitc). (claim it! Was formerly managed by the greater twin cities united way, which now provides funding to p+p to oversee it. ) in 2014, p+p worked with over 250 nonprofit and government organizations to promote the eitc, distributed thousands of campaign materials, and made numerous presentations throughout the state. In 2014, the total number of orders more than doubled from the prior year.
t. A. /training/education servicesp+p also provides in-depth training and technical assistance to other organizations across minnesota in to build their capacity to run successful free tax programs. In 2014, p+p increased the number of organizations it serves through this program from 14 to 17. These 17 organizations operated 39 free tax sites throughout minnesota, and provided tax assistance to nearly 16,000 additional households.
