As much as I love horses and the other animals they help I have never visited however, just seeing their posts and reading about what they do is heart warming. This is a fantastic place with wonderful, caring people and I can’t say enough about the vets.
I love volunteering at the horse rescue, because it helps & heals me, no matter what is going on in my life, as well as healing the horses. I have witnesses scared, non-trusting horses come & after time & love, leave into loving homes trusting humans! The commitment, care & love given to the rescues is amazing to be a part of.
Thanks to Lynn I found my fur ever horse Angel. I couldn't ask for a better horse, She has filled our hearts with so much love. Lynn does amazing work along with her volunteers. There aren't enough to words to express how great this rescue truly is...
If it was'nt for PMR i would not have my Maddie(Madrid) thank you Lynn for saving pregnant mares and doing what you do. Christina.
I went to PMR for the first time a little bit over 2 years ago.
All those rescued horses are surrounded by love by Lynn and all PMR's volunteers.
Lynn Hummer is very open to alternative therapies and holistic treatments for the horses besides working with regular medicine. All of this together mixed with tons of love results in great healing to the horses. I hold a very special place in my heart for PMR and Lynn Hummer. Lynn is a human being with a very special soul!
That is the place where LOVE comes first!
I moved to Santa Cruz at the beginning of the year for my husbands career. After moving I felt isolated and lost. Not long after I found Pregnant Mare Rescue and have been volunteering there ever since. I am so proud and honored to be a part of this organization. Everyday I step onto the property I am overcome with a sense of gratitude and purpose. The horses at PMR have heartbreaking histories and seeing how they are able to overcome with the help of the amazing volunteers makes all of the hard work a pleasure.
PMR and Lynn Hummer are absolutely incredible!!! The love shared, the lives saved, the knowledge spread ... What an amazing gift they are!!!
Correction: I witnessed holistic treatment and support for the horse mom's and babies that come in. Above and beyond love, sustenance, and dedication for the long term success and safety of all that come into Pregnant Mare Rescue's care. Please support the cause by becoming informed on the issues and then acting on your convictions to support the END of exploitation effecting our beloved horses.

Pregnant Mare Rescue operates with Volunteers that maintain & keep up the grounds, as well as love & help to heal the traumatized horses that are saved from cruelty, neglect & certain death. It is an amazing place not only for these precious animals to heal, but for all those that love them, to heal & share their mutual love for one another. Love it!!!
Pregnant Mare Rescue & Pregnant Mare Rescue Gilroy are saving lives! Their outreach and participation in the community are irreplaceable. Not only helping save horses from slaughter, they support the horse community and horses that need placement; even if not a pregnant mare. Kudos to the founder Lynn for fighting the good fight.
Lynn and her volunteer staff at PMR have graciously saved so many horse lives. They are a pillar of the bay area community and focus on the horse-human connection. They have come so far and continue to touch lives.
Pregnant Mare Rescue is dedicated to rescueing, rehabilitating and rehoming horses in desperate need of human intervention. NAVS was honored to assist PMR with grants to help transport mare rescued from slaughter and to help purchase hay after a drought drove up prices.
I have been a volunteer with Pregnant Mare Rescue for almost 5 years. As a horse lover my entire life, and a horse owner most of it, horses are my passion. Rescuing horses is no small commitment. Horses can live well into teir 30's if cared for, so having a commitment that any horse PMR rescues can come back any time, no questions asked if heeded is also remarkable. In the 6 1/2 years PMR has been in existence, they have helped over 80 horses. Some have been local needing a home after a fire, many due to personal financial circumstances. Former racehorses, and babies as young as 4 months old, have been rescued steps away from getting on a truck bound for slaugter. This April 2012 4 former premarin mares came all the way from North Dakota. Congratulations to Lynn Hummer and her wonderful family for sharing their home with these amazing animals. Volunteers and funds are always needed. For more information about volunteering, events, the horses, and to read the blog, go to www.pregnantmarerescue.org. Pregnant Mare Rescue can also be found on Facebook. A huge thankyou goes out to all the many, many people who have helped, and continue to help PMR.
