Mission: Pragati is a nonprofit organization with a mission to empower poor, unemployed and/ or abused South Asian women, by addressing the need for economic self-reliance and independence. The programs conducted in Queens, focus on information and education, employment guidance, referral and assistance for social services to increase womens’ literacy, increase self-esteem and confidence, and make South Asian women productive members of society. Pragati has worked with more than 7,000 women and families since 1994. It has provided the full range of social services for women and families
the organization has been supporting and helping South Asian for well over a decade. The number of women who have been assisted through stressful and violent home situations back into productive employed condition are too many to count. The ESL classes, avenues for health enrollment for families that this organization has provided to bribg marginalized south asian familes back into the fold is impressive. I hope the support for this will grow!!
As a volunteer with Pragati since 1993, I have experienced how a woman's life has changed after she received education, information and direct services that empowered her. Over the years Pragati has continued to serve women and families and has reached over 7,000 families in the NY Metropolitan region.
