There are a lot of people wanting to surrender their dogs, either their own or ones they found abandoned or dumped. There is a process that has to be done in order to get these dogs rescued. The Humane Society is a shelter, they house dogs until they are adopted or transported. There is only a limited amount of space. If a dog cannot get adopted or transported, it becomes a "LIFER" at the shelter and that's one space less they will have to rescue more animals. There are currently 10 lifers at the shelter now. That is half of the kennel space available. The only rescue in LeFlore County is out of Arkansas and they only pull from the dog pounds. As with every shelter, rescue, dog pound they are full. So when someone asks for a dog to be brought in it has to be assessed first. They do this by pictures and information from the person surrendering the dog. Every dog in the Poteau Valley Humane Society is healthy and has been vetted. They cannot bring in random dogs that have had no vetting. That would be risking the health all of the animals in the shelter. So if they take your dog, you have to be willing to foster it for at least 14 days and in that time they provide the shots (medication) they will need to get them free of any illnesses (as much as possible) and be able to accept them into the shelter. The people at PVHS care about the animals they have and that they save. They do the best with what they have to work with and to abide by the laws of a shelter, not a rescue. But unfortunately they cannot save them all.

POTEAU VALLEY HUMANE SOCIETY. I needed help! I explained my story. That wasn't their focus. They were more interested in PICTURES of the dog. They never asked if the dog or I for that matter, we're safe or needed their help. TOOK days for the "Director" to respond. DAYS. Her (director) main focus. Again, PICTURES. I explained this dog was smart and loving and behaved well for a year old puppy. NOT her focus. PICTURES. AFTER WAITING DAYS FOR A CALL BACK BEFORE, NOW They've NEVER CALLED BACK NOR DID THEY EMAIL BACK . IF THIS OPERATION IS A 501 C 3 THEY ANSWER TO SOMEONE. For the SAFETY of their animals I'm calling the USDA or whomever monitors human societies. I will also get the word out to people who donate, that their PRACTICES get a grade of F-. Before people give them money, I want those people to know how I was treated. I'm being evicted because I kept this dog and tried to save it. I explained all of that and AS YOU CAN SEE, IT DOES NOT MATTER TO THEM. SHAME ON YOU. SHAME ON YOU. YOU WERE NOT HUMANE TO ME. I WOULD LET YOU CARE FOR PET FLIES. SHAME ON YOU. EXPECT VISITORS FROM USDA AND ANYONE THAT THEY HAVE TO ANSWER TO. THE LADY WAS RUDE. HATEFUL. SHE COULD CARELESS ABOUT THE HELP BOTH THE DOG AND I NEEDED. SHAME ON YOU!!!--
