Programs: The mission of portersville christian school (pcs) is to glorify god by preparing students to serve christ and instilling high standards spiritually, academically, socially, and physically. The school provides a high quality academic program in addition to its spiritual life, and extra-curricular activities to achieve this mission. The school has served the christian community of butler, lawrence and mercer counties for 55 years. The quality of the academic program can be measured in several ways. Most graduates of pcs qualify for admission to their first-choice college or university. Many graduates are admitted to schools with highly competitive admissions requirements, or to specialized programs that have higher than normal standards. Last year's senior class of 16 students collectively earned $100,000 in scholarship money. Standardized testing results show pcs students achieve scores well above state and national averages. The class of 2017 was no exception. The school utilizes the terra nova achievement test for students in grades k-10, and pcs students achieved average reading, language and mathematics scores in the 70th percentile. A current senior class member was named as a commended scholar in the college board's national merit scholarship contest, placing among the top 5% of seniors in the nation. The school now offers students opportunities to earn enough dual college credit courses to leave high school with their first year of college also completed. The spiritual life of the school includes an international mission trip to the dominican republic during spring break. Students volunteer to help medical and dental teams, and provide a vacation bible school experience for local children. School days in the fall and spring are devoted to service, and students assist with nursing home patients, operation christmas child, local elder care ministries and the thanksgiving food distribution for a local rescue mission which helps over 900 families each year. In the spring, students serve local bible camp ministries. Bible is taught as a core subject and students also worship together each week. Last spring, all of the school's basketball teams on both the middle and high school level played in a league championship game, with the varsity boys and junior high girls coming away with trophies. Varsity soccer and volleyball brought home league tournament championships on the same night this fall. The school's archery program continues to improve, placing in state and national tournaments, and the fine arts department took on the challenge of performing "joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat" last spring. A performance of the greek tragedy "antigone" capped off the fall theater arts season.
