The Poppy Foundation is a fantastic organization. While there are many volunteers contributing much more than we do, I believe all volunteers feel truly appreciated. Over the years, my husband and I have served at different levels, but our most rewarding has been the adoption aspect of this organization. At different times, six of these "bundles of joy" have allowed us to live with them. (If you know cats, you know they are in charge of their home!) This foundation serves a much overlooked population of abandoned, medically dependent, and homeless cats.

I came to discover The Poppy Foundation as a client when I had found a sick stray kitten that was in desperate need of help. It amazed me how willing to help me they were and although that sweet kitten didn’t make it due to her injuries, their efforts and dedication to help me out inspired me to become a frequent volunteer. As a volunteer I was able to see first hand the love and care the people of Poppy give to their cats and it didn’t take much time before I began to love them just the same. You can tell the poppy cats are happy and well loved and I think that comes from the great staff and volunteers that dedicate their time to this wonderful safe haven for cats.

I am such an animal lover and my dream has always been to take in the old, unwanted cats that always get overlooked for the kittens. One day, when I have my own home, I will be able to do that. In the meantime, I found the most wonderful place in the Poppy Foundation which allows me to assist in caring for the forgotten cats of Las Vegas. The care and love given to these abandoned and special needs animals really renews my faith in humanity. I am so thankful to be a part of this wonderful place and let these little critters know that even though they may have had rough beginnings, they are now loved and that we will care for them for the rest of their days. They have a loving home and family in the Poppy Foundation.❤️

When my wife and I moved here 20 years ago, the first thing we looked for was a vet. Dr. Steelman was highly recommended. In doing so, we became acquainted with the Poppy Foundation, both the cats and volunteers. Most of the Poppy cats have special needs and are not adoptable. The volunteers lovingly tend to their needs. We also discovered that all the donations go directly to the care of the cats. The Poppy board of directors take no salary; it is strictly a volunteer position. Over the years, my wife and I have donated to the Poppy cats. My wife is gone now, but I’ve continued to support the foundation and have adopted three cats. I could not think of a better organization to donate to and I have The Poppy Foundation prominently mentioned in my will.

I’m grateful to be a volunteer at the Poppy Foundation. It’s a wonderful non-profit that is dedicated to helping rescue cats that struggle with chronic health conditions that were abandoned and many senior cats that need homes.

The volunteers are incredibly helpful and kind. They have shown me how to care for cats and how important the organization is in helping to save stray cats in Las Vegas.

I love these sweet cats, and I’m happy to help this charity in any way that I can. All the donations they get make a huge difference, and everything is run by volunteers. The board and team members are good people working for a good cause.

Many cats' lives have been saved as a result of their efforts. Because of the Poppy Foundation, several cats were adopted into loving homes. Spending time with these rescue animals has positively impacted many people's lives, including mine.

A litter of six kittens was abandoned and brought to the Poppy Foundation. Poppy, fortunately, never turns away an animal, and took all of them in. Some, if not all, had upper respiratory infections. They were not in great shape, and Poppy really took the time to nurse them back to health.

I was interested in adopting a kitten, and fell in love with one of the six. He was too young to adopt, but Poppy let me come in once a week to visit him and spend time with him until he was old enough to come home with me.

He is up-to-date on all of his vaccinations and micro chipped. I brought him back a month later to be neutered, and I can’t thank Poppy enough for their dedication to saving cats. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t have the sweetest little boy.

There are a lot of animal shelters in Las Vegas, but Poppy is one of the few that are no kill. Many of the Poppy cats have special needs ranging from dietary restrictions to seizure disorders and even paralysis, but no cat is ever turned away. The staff and volunteers show the cats love and kindness, and over time even feral cats transition to an adoptable state.

I have known the poppy foundation for 22 years. They have amazing, kind and caring volunteers who help out daily to insure these beautiful kitties are loved and well taken care off. Many have chronic medical conditions and sadly some were mistreated before arriving at Poppy. Gratefully some kitties have been adopted and taken to their forever homes. But for the kitties who haven’t been, they will always have a warm place to sleep and a place where they’ll never go hungry. They get the care they need and they’ll never have to worry about what tomorrow will be. This is their forever home.

Over the last several years, I have been pleased and proud to support the mission, volunteers, and special-needs cats of the Poppy Foundation through donations and personal participation in broader fundraising efforts. This humane organization shelters unadoptable cats, ensuring they receive appropriate medical care, live their natural lifespan in a safe non-restrictive environment, and enjoy the society of fellow felines as well as loving attention from their caretakers. As a Buddhist, I want Poppy Foundation to be recognized for its dedication to the principle that even chronically ill and formerly abused and neglected cats deserve, as do all sentient beings, every opportunity to live as freely from suffering as compassionate humans can make possible for them. The Las Vegas community is elevated by the Poppy Foundation’s work and service.

The Poppy Foundation has been such a blessing to so many unadoptable cats who have found their way there. They make sure each one has medical exams, is spayed or neutered, vaccinated and medically treated if necessary. As a senior citizen Poppy has helped my kitty, too, before he passed.
The members of their Board all have full-time jobs but still find time, at no payment, to keep Poppy maintained, organizing fund raisers, working with volunteers and even buying supplies if needed.

What an amazing organization! With an estimated 85-90K stray, feral, and abandoned cats in our community, the Poppy Foundation is desperately needed. This 501c3 charity provides forever care to cats that are not typically adoptable. Most are feral, chronically ill or infirm, or geriatric.

Poppy Foundation has over 100 cats in their care at any given time. Despite this daunting number, the volunteers still manage to know the cats' names and their "personal" preferences, putting out favorite foods, petting the feisty ones in a certain manner, brushing the ones that desire it. That is pretty incredible. Poppy's dedicated staff of volunteers truly care about the cats, going above and beyond to improve the quality of life for these fur babies.

And the coolest part of this place? Members of the public can stop by to visit and hang out with the cats! If you love the felines, you will love visiting Poppy.

The Poppy Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that survives mainly on monitory, food, litter, etc. donations. Most of our cat Poppylation has health problems and cannot be adopted, but there will be all attempts made to find any 'inherited' healthy cats and kittens their 'forever' homes
Poppy survives almost solely by monetary donations, including friends who have passed away and have willed donations. Poppy also appreciates all the great volunteers who are happy to help in any way they can, showing the kitties attention, getting them socialized and giving them love.

Our Board members all work full-time jobs, but still find time to plan, organize and take part in various fund'-raising sales throughout the year. No one is compensated. 100% of all money raised goes towards the care and feeding of our kitties. This includes vaccinations, testing for cat-related diseases, x-rays, lab work, medication....... whatever veterinary care they need. Many are on special foods that Poppy pays for.

The cost of maintaining our Poppylation is high, but everyone involved is happy to do their part to help out where they can.

I have been involved with the Poppy Foundation since 2007 in various roles, and still feel joy in my heart just thinking of this wonderful charity. I was introduced to them by bringing my cats to the compassionate veterinarian, Dr. Linda Steelman. Over the years, as I volunteered, I watched them grow and evolve into a sun-drenched happy, healthy, loving space that belies the trauma that each cat endured prior to their being rescued.

Some of my favorite memories are of assisting the vets during the free/low-cost spay & neuter days, of helping keep things moving out on the golf course for charity tournaments, of selling adorable cat-themed items (and buying even more!) during the Holiday Sale, and sipping tea (and yes, wine) after idea-laden Board Meetings. I must say I didn't relish cleaning out the old vet office when it was time to move to the new one, but I did enjoy the company of so many willing volunteers!

When considering a donation, an "in-memoriam" gift, volunteer time, or adopting a cat, PLEASE consider the worthy Poppy Foundation.

When you walk into the Poppy Foundation, you’re immediately struck visually by the multitude of cat condos in the main room. After looking around you see a cat in literally every space on the condos and many more around the room. As you goo deeper in the room you see rooms off the main room, housing more condos and many more cats. The surprising thing is how well the many, many cats get along. I think it’s cause that know this is their last hope. So many have special needs and health concerns that are addressed by Poppy. This wonderful organization does not believe in euthanizing cats who may have health issues. If they are unadoptable they have a forever home with Poppy. Since ongoing care is expensive, Poppy needs donations to keep these beautiful kitties well looked after. Volunteers are welcome to help clean litter boxes, wash cage towels, feed and mostly shower them with lots of love.
Sometimes healthy cats and kittens become Poppy cats and they are able to go to forever homes. They are tested for disease, given their first vaccinations, spayed/neutered, and put up for adoption for a reasonable fee. We ask that those homes keep them indoors where they will always be safe.

I have been associated with this wonderful organization for many years. It has given many sweet but unadoptable kitties a home and medical care.
100% of all donations go to maintain them. Regular and special foods, medical care (including lab work, xrays, ongoing medication), constant litter changes, laundry, etc. are expensive and there is zero administration costs. Poppy is so fortunate to have so many caring people since it lives mainly by donations and fund raisers, In fact the Board members and volunteers often dip into their own pockets to help out.
I have seen so many of these animals become socialized and so many children, including classes of learning impaired visit and enjoy their interactions. It has been a joy.

Meet Seamus and Reilly, two cats we adopted from the Poppy Foundation. My wife and I have volunteered with Poppy for nearly 8 years. Poppy is run entirely by volunteers who care for, feed and medicate nearly 150 cats, the majority of which have special medical needs. The board of the Poppy Foundation is comprised of caring folks who give incredibly generously of their time and their own funds. In fact, the Poppy Foundation has been designated as a 100% Giving Board by the Community Foundation of Western Nevada, which recognizes the personal financial contributions of non-profit Board members. That says a lot about this Board. We also love Dr. Steelman and all she donates to the Poppy cats and the great care she provides for our boys. This is a great organization deserving of support and a Top-Rated Non Profit designation.

The Poppy Foundation is an amazing organization that helps unadoptable and special needs cats.
My favorite niece, Lillian the cat, came from The Poppy Foundation. She has not only enriched our lives with her charm and demeanor, she also makes everyone fall in love with her. Many people, especially her grandma, often talk about stealing this one-eyed beauty!
Many more amazing cats like Lillian are there waiting for their furever home. Some also have permanent residency and a full-time job assisting staff as valuable paperweights and door greeters.
I have been included in several fundraisers for this organization and they have all been rewarding and inclusive. If only I could volunteer full-time!

The volunteer crew works hard to identify safe and loving homes for the adoptable cats that find their way to the Poppy Foundation. I know that all the money I donate and the time I contribute goes to care for these precious cats that would have nowhere else to go without the hard working, loving, selfless crew at the Poppy Foundation.

Poppy’s has no less than 150 high special needs cats at any given time! These animals receive great loving care and are allowed to live their lives out with dignity! It is my honor to help assist in those endeavors!

This is such a kind and caring charity. Thanks to the amazing Dr. Steelman and the hard work of all the volunteers at the Poppy Foundation, homeless and chronically ill kitties get a second chance. They also put on lots of fun events for the community to help support their efforts. I've been supporting this organization for over 10 years and will continue to do so. To any of the people feeling uneasy about the 2 negative reviews posted, I would challenge you to take a tour of the place and see directly where your money is going. Warning though: you might fall in love with a cuddly kitty or two!

To merely speak about it hardly does it justice. If you visit The Poppy Foundation, it’s hard to believe your eyes. So very many cats of different health issues and ages, all looking well cared for and content. You’d think this staggering number of cats, coexisting would be full of ruffled fur and hisses, but it has a surreal calmness, maybe in part that these kitties know this is their last hope and lifeline! When possible I donate, and I adopted my last two lil stinkers from them, and I love them so much. Appropriate I am commenting today, Halloween, as they are both black cats, named after witches from Bewitched, Clara and Esmeralda. The Poppy Foundation is a very worthwhile organization!

I was part of Trunk or Treat this year for Poppy. Such a great fun! The Poppy Foundation does so much for their community and their speical cats. A lot of time and caring goes into each event. Every dime made goes directly back to these animals in need.

Treats all cats that come in like family. The only place that I could think of that takes care of cats and gives them a second chance at life.

The Poppy Foundation has been rescuing special needs and abandoned cats for years. Can’t say enough good things about them. I have been to The Poppy Foudation as a volunteer and see the wonderful care given to the cats by the Drs, volunteers and staff. Poppy also helps by doing spay and neutering for other non profit groups.

I have donated to this foundation for quite a few years and am very happy how they are running it. I never worry where my contributions go. They keep everyone posted on the cats and what's happening with them as well as events. I have been burned in the past from several other foundations where they leave town and the funds have disappeared. The Poppy Foundation is great and has been around since 1995. I will continue to contribute to their cause.

This is an amazing organizations whose only goal is to help the disabled, unadoptable kitties to give them the best life they can. They are community based and do what they can to help our community a better place to be. The ladies who run this organization are the sweetest, most humble people you could meet, just truly looking to good for the animals they love so much. I would recommend anyone to take the time to stop by, learn about this organization, and give all the support you can. 1 minute in their facility and your heart will melt for these babies!

I support the Poppy Foundation because they support our community by taking in cats that are otherwise unadoptable or put down just because they have issues like diabetes, blindness, CH, FIV, limbs missing...they also have made room for senior kitties and medically fragile cats that people drop off at their door. They are the meaning of 'no cat left behind'. You can visit these Poppy cats and play with them and make their lives happy and in turn they make you happy. I love supporting the Poppy Foundation in anyway I can because they do all they can to give back to the kitties in our community.

15 years ago when my daughter moved to Las Vegas & needed a vet for for her cat, I first met Dr Steelman & learned of her dedication to homeless unwanted cats. I have been to visit the Poppy Foundation and can attest to the stellar job they are doing. I visit every time I am in town and spend time visiting the kittens & the special cats who have a permanent home at Poppy and love seeing how happy and well taken care of they are. I have also contributed to their fundraisers and donated raffle items to them to help raise funds for the cats. I am a supporter of this foundation because I believe everyone there is open and honest and is doing the hard work of taking care of cats that others have turned their back on. The Poppy Foundation is the first place I would volunteer at if I lived in Las Vegas and I would them recommend them to anyone who was seeking to adopt, foster or re-home a cat.

I have been donating to the Poppy Foundation for two decades and it is by far one of theist wonderful organizations around. There are no paid employees, just volunteers who give their time and effort to help abandoned and disabled cats live their best lives. They also help abandoned cats find loving homes. My Brynhildr and Bert were both saved from desperate situations, nursed back to health by the dedicated volunteers of Poppy and given the chance to spend their lives being loved by me because of the hard work of the Poppy Foundation.

I have adopted two of my babies from the Poppy foundation. The work they do is amazing. So many selfless people come together to care for these cats. I am a monthly donor and also spend time there loving the kitties whenever I can. Everything is spent directly on the cats which is one of the reasons I like them. It’s all about the cats!

I wanted to donate as my friend is asking for his birthday gift to go here. However after reading a review I am now concerned and would like this non profit to please simply post the amount of our donated dollars thst go directly to helping the animals and what percentage goes to administration. ( all United Way non profits must have less than 25% going to Administration) I like to use that figure as a basis. I see that there is a link on here to get more info for $125. Not spending that!! I would like this organization to please post these numbers .

Christine, Thank you for your comment and Thank you for verifying our non profit status. We can assure you that 100% of donations go directly to the care of our cats. We do not charge administrative fees and there are no salaries. Our organization runs solely on volunteer time and generous donations from the community of folks that support us. We have been caring for over 120 chronically ill and medical fragile cats for over 10 years. These cats need around the clock medical care, shelter , food and love for the rest of their lives. Again thank you for your comment and we hope you continue to support local non profits.
