Mission: Perc is dedicated to improving environmental quality through markets and property rights. Perc's work consists of research, outreach and education. Perc applies economic thinking to environmental problems.
Programs: Research - percs academic research is at the front of all our efforts and remains our core competency. We treat research as the first stage in a multi-stage process to develop effective conservation policies and strengthen conservation practices. Core research areas include issues related to land use, water, and wildlife. Additional focus areas include the urban environment, energy, and global conservation issues. Conferences and colloquia: perc hosted multi-day conferences in the past year to develop research ideas. The ideas and publications these workshops generated (or will generate) infuse the academic and policy debates with the principles of free market environmentalism. Fellowships: percs in-house research initiatives are augmented by visiting scholars from universities and organizations around the world. In 2017, we hosted graduate fellows, julian simons fellows, lone mountain fellows, and impact fellows. Details about our fellowships can be found on our website, www. Perc. Org
outreach and publications - the objective of percs outreach team is to disseminate to a broader audience the ideas generated by our senior fellows, research fellows, visiting scholars, and enviropreneurs. Publications: percs publications generated significant interest and attention from major outlets such as the new york times, npr, and e&e news in 2017. This resulted in invitations to present before key audiences, including congressional testimony, and helped us develop a stronger voice in todays environmental policy debates. Perc developed 12 major policy reports and publications in 2017. Details can be found on our website: www. Perc. Org. Articles and op-eds: percs outreach efforts are not confined to in-house publications. Perc grows its audience by publishing articles and op-eds in popular media outlets across the country. Perc continues to regularly place op-eds in leading outlets such as the wall street journal, new york times, the hill, and outside.
applied programs - the primary value of applied programs is to expose policy makers, conservation groups, and environmental entrepreneurs to percs ideas sothat they can put those ideas into practice. Applications of fme are useful in our research and outreach products, as success stories buildenthusiasm for percs ideas among conservationists, partners, policymakers and supporters. Environmental hackathon: inspired by multi-day collaborative computer programming events, this intensive pilot workshop engaged successful enviropreneurs to develop market-based solutions to an environmental issue. Partnerships with state-based groups: in 2017, perc partnered with a variety of state-based groups to spread our research and ideas to new audiences. An example of these partnerships is the center for public land stewardship. This center, which is a partnership between perc, the texas a&m institute of renewable natural resources, the noble research institute, and the east foundation, is designed to fill critical research needs and advance effective conservation solutions
