Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center

I found an injured snow goose & called Pocono Wildlife Rehab- they were so nice and helpful on the phone & when I arrived with the goose. I’m grateful that they’re here & so caring for our wildlife!

Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center is an invaluable and unmatched resource to our area of the Poconos. They are extremely knowledgeable and kind. I have personally delivered injured turtles, baby opossums, squirrels, and even a mouse. I have called many times from home with questions about an animal to ask what I should do if anything. We have attended their wildlife shows and open house days. All enclosures and habitats are beautiful, clean, and well-kept. I don't know what our area would do without them!

I began working as a volunteer in April. It has been a lifelong dream to work directly with wildlife in need of help. What I've learned in just a few weeks has been astonishing. The amount of care they deliver 24/7 to the largest variety of rescued animals in Pennsylvania requires incredible expertise, skill, resourcefulness and boundless energy. They care for mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians - the only rescue with such capabilities in the Commonwealth. It is stressful -- sometimes very stressful - for the full time staff of just 4 people. But, the commitment they exhibit toward each and every animal fills my heart with admiration and wonder. I will keep trying to be the best volunteer I can be and live up to their standards every day.

A couple of summers ago my husband and I came across an injured juvenile Northern Flicker in our yard. I called Pocono Wildlife Rescue worried I might get an answering machine as it was a weekend. Happily someone answered and immediately diagnosed the little bird with a concussion and gave us detailed instructions on how to get to the Center. We were greeted upon our arrival by two workers who were ready to take this sweet bird in and nurse him back to health. I emailed them a few days later for a progress report and was delighted to learn he was recovering nicely. I would highly recommend this organization to anyone who has the misfortune of coming across injured wildlife. They are truly devoted to their job, and it shows.

We have taken many little creatures in need that we or friends and neighbors have found...the wonderful people at Pocono Wildlife love these sweet animals and provide topnotch care for all these babies! All the while they are preparing them to go back to nature in their beautiful and safe land nearby. This includes helping little ones late at night. I have driven a baby rabbit there long after hours and checked in the next day and the little one was doing amazing. We had a cat drop a baby squirrel by our gate...picked it up and found its sibling who was also crying (scouting around my neighbor’s yard around midnight!) I had spoken to Pocono what to do til morning ended up bringing 2! The gentleman said they were in good shape-I said I had good help and info! Phone help for a mama opossum who was hit by a car..ALWAYS helpful and so lovingly caring about every creature!

These folks were the only organization for MILES that would take 2 baby kestrels we found on the ground outside my mother's house. When we arrived they were waiting for us and immediately took care of the two babies, assuring us that the babies would be fine and showed us the other kestrels in their care. Just an amazing organization!

I found a swallow injured and called Pocono Wildlife. They gladly advised me to bring him to them. It was located off several back & winding roads until I noticed a sign. When I delivered the swallow, they immediately asked me basic questions, and took immediately into care. Great caring people and great experience.

Pocono Wildlife is such an amazing organization. I have been volunteering there for a few months and they have helped me so much! Everyone that works there is so kind and welcoming. I have learned not only about different animals but also what I want to do with my future. They inspire me with what they do, every single day.

I became familiar with Pocono Wildlife Rehab and Education Center shortly after moving to the Poconos with my family in 1993. It wasn't long before my husband and I encountered wildlife in need, and we were so relieved to have Kathy, the person who created this center, to bring these animals to. I honestly don't know what we would have done without her. What I do know is that she is extremely dedicated to the wildlife of this area. Over the years, she cared for many animals we brought to her, a fawn laying in the road, a squirrel with a botfly in its shoulder, blue jay with broken wing, baby squirrels, to name a few, and she gave us sound advise and educated us when we called about things like fledglings, baby rabbits, a skunk in our crawl space, etc. When I recently went to the center for a class on transporting wildlife for WIN, I learned that for all the Pocono Wildlife Center does, they do not receive any funding from the state. All is funded by donations. To see the facility that Kathy Uhler has created, built, maintained, all the work she has done for the wildlife, and all funded with donations is beyond inspirational. I can tell you that if you call the center with a wildlife issue, listen to the experts there and do what they tell you to do. The answer you get may be firm or direct, but it will be honest. Don't debate. They know what they're doing. Be thankful you have them to call. I know I am.

They took in two rescues from me. One very malnourished fawn that was abandoned and directed me to another rehabilitation center for an injured osprey the was shot. They also hold educational seminars that benefit our community. They help wildlife by keeping them wild. They provide a service For Free! That the Pocono Area needs.

My two dogs uncovered what turned out to be a bunny nest in the backyard.( I thought they were moles). I called Pocono Wildlife and they said to bring them in, no hesitation. I had to drive an hour since they were the closest wildlife refuge. They are such a value to the community!

We had found baby ducks and the mom walking around a busy parking lot so we had taken them here. They had taken such great care of them....thank you. Awesome place with such dedication.

We recently had found some orphaned raccoons and they took them in and got right to work giving those babies the best chance they had to survive without mom. They are always there to help the area with injured and orphaned wildlife while educating the public on the right thing to do by our wild counterparts!

I worked there for a few months helping to clean cages. Such wonderful, helpful people. Dedicated to helping the animals. You could see how much they loved these animals and birds and were always willing to answer questions and see to their care.

Katie Uhler , her husband and her volunteer group have helped so many times, when I've rescued injured wildlife. They always open their doors and take whatever unlucky creature that I bring. Birds, opossum, fawn, they always know what to do to alleviate the suffering.

Personable, generous, dedicated leadership serves birds and animals and people who want to preserve them and learn more about them. Our community is so fortunate to have this organization among us.

I was the President for The Friends of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and we had them do our lecture series many times to spread their word on the wonderful job they do for this area. I have never seen two people and a crew of volunteers do what they do to get things done. It is a definite must to have them around and any donation would be well worth it. They are one of the good guys.

I have seen their employees and some of the birds and animals they care for at an Audubon show. they were very caring and knowledgable about the animals. they truly care about them. I have read about all the good they do for the animals. I plan to visit during their open house.

For many years Kathy & Eric have given everything they have (quite literally) to help wildlife & educate the public. They have my great admiration for the life they have chosen.

This is an amazing rescue and education facility for wildlife. What I mean is that the wildlife get rescued and WE get educated about them because educating wildlife would be silly because they’re already much smarter than us! Anyways, this Wildlife Rehab has the sexiest porcupine you’ve ever seen, and a really cool albino crow! The husband and wife duo are fabulous, amazing, selfless educators who would do anything and everything to rehabilitate and release wildlife and to keep them safe and happy. We love you!!! Thanks for keeping the nature of the Poconos around for us to enjoy!!

I found a baby bird that a cat had gotten hold of. I rescued it and brought it to Pocono Wildlife. They took the baby bird in and took care of it. They had so many animals that they were caring for and the best part is that they return them to the wild as often as possible.

In the unfortunate event that they are unable to return them, they care for them and use them to educate the public. They are such an asset to the community and local wildlife.

Fantastic people doing fabulous work! Every time I have heard them speak on behalf of animals, I learn something new. This rescue works so hard to do what is best for lost, injured or orphaned animals. They are the best!!

I had the amazing opportunity to intern for this center. They care deeply about the animals they receive and do everything in their power to help return these animals to the wild. They are true professionals and I would not hesitate to bring an injured animal here, ever. Kathy, Sharon, and Matt taught me so much about the wildlife in our area and how to aid in their recovery. I am forever grateful for the experience.

This organization has worked tirelessly for over 25 years and all at a personal, professional and financial cost to the director. Thousands of animals have received outstanding care and have returned to the wild. I am in awe of the commitment of this organization which not only treats injured animals but also provides numerous educational programs so that all of us (human and other animals) can learn to live together with respect for all life.

The people at Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center work tirelessly at helping the local wildlife and educating the community. They have taken in several animals that I found in need of help to survive and they were able to heal them and re-release them back into the wild. I believe it is important for all living creatures that we maintain a healthy ecosystem and this organization contributes greatly to this cause. They exist solely on the the generosity of donors. I encourage anyone and everyone to get involved and/or donate so this organization may continue this important work.

The Pocono Wildlife Rehab and Ed Center is amazing. Such wonderful people doing the most selfless work. I've taken two animals in need to them over the years, first a wild bunny that had injured itself climbing through a neighbors fence, and another time a groundhog that appeared to be paralyzed in the hind quarters and who was healthy looking but dragging itself around. How amazing that they take care of these beautiful animals, rehabilitate them and then release them into the wild again. I've visited the center during their recent open house and was able to see the many different creatures they care for. I was amazed at the number and variety of "animals" and at the fact that they know how to do what they do, plus that they do it so well. They really are amazing and I am so grateful to have them doing the loving work that they do. I wish them unlimited abundance and the ability to continue serving on this beautiful Earth.

Sadly we found ourselves with two baby bunnies in our yard and no way for their mom to care for them. Wrongly, I thought I could feed and raise them but in just a few short days I realized their health was failing fast. I didn't know such a place existed but fortunately I found Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation. The staff welcomed me in without judgement and immediately went to care for the bunnies. I know they are in the best possible hands.

I only saw the small clinic but there was many baby animals being well cared for by the staff. I know there were many other animals being saved in other buildings at this beautiful location.

This is a wonderful organization. On three occasions I took either injured wildlife or orphaned animals to them for their care. Each time, they followed up with us communicating how the animal was doing. We have donated to this organization for the last five years. With an increase of our earnings, we increase our donation to them.

Wonderful place to take injured wildlife. I found an injured baby bird in my backyard. Called and they immediately answered and said to drop it off.

These guys rock!! We recently brought a little brown bat who was lethargic there and they fixed the little guy right up. They help so many local critters and even open their doors once a year for their open house so the public can see all the amazing work they do.

PWR is a God sent, amazing place. The Uhlers and Staff without a doubt, prioritize the well being of the creatures in their care above all else.

Katie and Eric have dedicated their lives to helping the helpless, from bears to birds of all kinds, to turtles and raccoons, a virtual Ark, but in numbers not even Noah could have planned for. No bunny or bat is ever turned away.

And while accepting all of that responsibility of care, they make time to educate in our schools and organizations to raise awareness of the world that hides around us. They teach and give interns first hand experience so that they can go into the world and be great caregivers themselves.

They reuse, repurpose wasting nothing to be able to invest in the care of the creatures.
Our part of PA is so very fortunate to have a sanctuary like this one, to take care of the creatures that would not survive without their help.
To put it simply we need them.

They rejoice each time they get to release the grown-up or the healed.

As I said at the start, Pocono Wildlife Rehab and its staff are a true gift to Mother Nature, and she has no better friends than them.

For as long as I can remember Katie and Eric have been helping the wildlife of the Poconos and beyond. They are 24/7 and always willing to try and save any animal or bird. They have been able to release many of the ones they cared for over the years. And to educate the community, they bring the animal and birds to the public so that we can learn and appreciate the wildlife we live with. Everyone there works hard to keep the animals safe.

This is a non-profit with heart! They are helping animals that can not help themsves. Everything they do, especially the fun and informative education talks they give, spreads the message that we are meant to care about the wild life around us!

It's such a relief knowing I can take injured wild animals to the rehab center for appropriate, reliable care. Such a wonderful asset to have in the community.

This facility has been in operation in northeastern PA for 31 years. They care for every species of wildlife and provide live educational programs for people all over the region. They even take care of bears!
