Mission: Coordinate programs, public and private, host speakers dealing with medical or informative information, which promote and safeguard the independence and well being of senior citizens, age 55 and older, in the greater plymouth community. A primary goal is to help seniors socialize and to advise and refer them and their families to local services and agencies and provide then with resources for home care, housing, financial and all other senior related issues.
Programs: Service accomplishments maintain, order and verify all records for the focus hope food program, to insure that seniors financially qualify to receive food supplement. The enrollment of qualified individuals for the extra help medicare program. Workshops each year for medicare enrollment, medicare fraud, and medicare questions and changes. Arranged a legal aid and crime prevention program for seniors. Assist the plymouth united way with the registrations for the senior make a difference day fall and spring clean up and tefap food distribution. Provided flu shots. Arranged for low income seniors to participate in the "project heat program" (cleaning and maintaining furnaces). Held informative presentations regarding, diabetes, depression, fall prevention, pain management, medicare open enrollment &medicare fraud, hearing testing twice a year, dementia, home care & housing, eye screenings, blood pressure and sugar checks, monthly, women's wellness and managing meds, estate planning, posture screening, exercise & nutrition. Provided resources for adult day care and elder abuse, transportation, utilities, emergency medical trips, chore program, ramps, cell phones and home care.
program accomplishments 7527 participants attended entertaining, social and classes during the 12 month fiscal year. 501 participants attended health and wellness related presentations. We offer on a weekly basis tai chi, senior yoga, senior cardio fitness classes, cardio drumming and zumba gold. Weekly recreational programs such as wii bowling, art classes, monthly movies, bunco club, knitting, writing, walking clubs and game day are also offered. Expanded variety of activities are offered for the senior community at the friendship station senior center. Participant numbers continue to increase.
editing, publishing and distributing 12 issues of the sentinel newsletter, to approximately 720 members and 33 seniors agencies. The coordinating of seniors with local agencies to ensure that seniors receive assistance, current and updated information.
