Three years ago, my life changed dramatically when my husband of 37 years moved out and left me to care for our youngest daughter alone. She is mentally retarded with autistic-like behavior problems and is functionally a quadriplegic. I learned that sometimes a Hoyer Lift just isn't enough. A few months later, I met the first of the many Pleasant View, Inc,, staff that would become the support network I so badly needed. In the beginning they came to the house and helped me get my daughter showered and dressed and took her 40 minutes away to one of their two Day Programs five days a week. I mentioned to one of the home care staff to beware, that my daughter had a tendency to pinch or bite if not carefully lifted. He said, "Yes, I see that"......and that was it. I knew I was with the right people. I went to visit the Day Program frequently to observe and answer questions,if the staff had a concern. I was asked many questions, but no one seemed too concerned about my daughters behaviors. The Director told me "We see many of these same behaviors all the time". I knew I was with the right people. Months later a room became available in one of their group homes. By now I was feeling comfortable that this was going to be a good experience. My daughter was taken from the Broadway Day Program many times to see her "new home" which was 2 miles away. When moving day came, she was ready and never had any problems in adjusting. Again she was with the right people. I visit my daughter every week. I pick her up at the Day Program and return her to Mumaw House, her group home. She enjoys the visits, but is always eager to "go home" and see what is for dinner. The staff are very aware of her likes and dislikes. They now know her almost as well as I do! In the three years she has been with Pleasnt View, Inc., her vocabulary and language skills have inceased dramatically, but best of all, her autistic-like behaviors have improved dramatically. She is with the right people!

Pleasant View, Inc. supports people with disabilities in all areas of their lives. Throughout learning about Pleasant View, Inc. I have been taught a tremendous amount regarding excellent care and dependability regarding individuals with intellectual disabilities. Pleasant View, Inc in my opinions offers a fair share of programs to anyone with a disability regardless of how minor or major the disability. Pleasant View, Inc is committed to serving people and treating people with dignity and respect as well as educating the public about disabilities.
