In 2006 I was fortunate to be asked to be an advisor to the Board of Directors. As a firebrand mental health advocate from the 90s, I recognized the need and the benefits of this unique group and organization straight away.
I found the Board of Directors to be engaged and authentic. Made up of NAMI or other concerned parents of Special Needs Chidren/Adult Children this organization take their duties very seriously. Monthly Board meetings review beneficiary accounts, supplemental needs, and individual comprehensive social services coordination. I watched this basically dormant organization blossom into a helpful, hard working, and knowlegable organization.
The mission of PLAN is to protect the individual's government benefits by providing top notch trust management and social services coordination. Federal and State law changes are constantly researched and reviewed. PLAN has true concern for the welfare of each individual, a comprehensive look at each individual knowing that each story is different, and what they do enhances their lives providing "peace of mind" for families who may not be here to do so.
From 2006 to now this specialized organization ( 1 out of 21 nationally) constantly and vigorously improves on their policies and procedures. Many changes have occurred converting from a grass roots organization to a professional organization ; advocates, lawmakers who have influenced policies and communities; and top notch lawyers as unpaid stakeholders interact with this organization making sustainable differences and growth earlier than expected.
Because of the integrity, legal knowledge, and sincere concern for the welfare of the individuals; the ongoing willingness of the members and employees to sort through barriers to quality care in order to institute positive changes quickly makes this organization one of my favorite non-profits.

BE AWARE! They want to use up client's funds to pay themselves as much as possible and do not care for long term benefits of the client. If some one disagrees with their polices, PLAN of AZ will file for guardianship using client's money to pay for their attorneys and their experts.
This organization has non-reliable drivers with old cars that constantly broken. They drive clients in 110-115 degrees heat without working air conditioner! Their caregivers are not trained to provide adequate care. It takes up to 8 weeks to reimburse health care providers.
