There are several dance organization in Pittsburgh that put on regular socials, but Pittsburgh Ballroom also spearheads charitable outreaches in the wider community. For many years they've run programs in schools to introduce children to ballroom dance, and they partner with health organizations and fairs to tout the benefits of dance to senior citizens.
I participate in the Pittsburgh Ballroom outreach program. It is so rewarding to entertain and demonstrate to others our love of dancing. Senior citizens are our main focus group and the feed back from them has been great. I especially like to invite them to dance along with us and see their smiles
My Husband and I are volunteers for Pittsburgh Ballroom in two capacities.
First, with a small group of member from our club we visit nursing homes and senior citizen centers in the Pittsburgh area twice a month. Our purpose is to present different types/styles of ballroom dances..These performances are completed by our volunteer members for the enjoyment of the seniors. We then try to get the seniors involved in physical and mental exercise by dancing with us or each other.
Our ultimate goal for the seniors is for them to get involved with dance or some other physical and/or mental activity which would increase socialization and physical fitness. We enjoy sharing with these dear folks.
Our second area of volunteer involvement is with middle school age students. These opportunities have been in both public and private schools. The students are introduced to different types/styles of ballroom dances. They learn to move to the beat of the music and use patterns which each style creates. The students learn social graces of being polite and kind to other students with which they may not normally interact. They learn how to ask for a dance and accept an invitation to dance when dancing with a partner.
The students also learn the skills of leading and following in dance. Students may volunteer to research and share the history and culture of the particular dance styles/types they have learned. This information will be presented to parents, school friends and faculty at the culmination of the program. It is a great finale at the end of our dance year.
Thank you Pittsburgh Ballroom for giving us opportunities to serve our local communities. It is an enrichment to all involved.
I have belonged to Pittsburgh Ballroom for 2 years! We dance at beautiful venues throughout the city of Pittsburgh for a nominal fee of $10. We have a senior outreach program in which volunteer dancers perform at various senior centers, communities and clubs around the city. We all know the health benefits of dance, not only the physical, but psychological and social as well. Another arm of our volunteer outreach program teaches middle school children how to dance as well as good manners and social skills!
My husband and I have been members of Pittsburgh Ballroom since 2014 and are thrilled to be part of the ballroom dance scene in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh Ballroom has incredibly fun dances at beautiful venues throughout the Greater Pittsburgh Region. Guaranteed evening of lovely social dancing and great music!
The great thing about Pittsburgh Ballroom is the variety of good venues we have for our monthly dances. On October 13, 2018 we were at the Benedum Center second floor rehearsal hall. This is the same facility the Pittsburgh Ballet performs.
A professional yet social ballroom dance organization. The leadership of Gretchen Brocks is superb. The outreach of the volunteers is unequaled in Pittsburgh....teaching young students to dance, performing in front of senior and community groups and soon to establish an Alzheimer's program. This "dance" group is so much more.
I am an active dancer and outreach volunteer with Pittsburgh Ballroom. I know that the mission is carried out to not only benefit the general dance public but to encourage and educate youth programs in schools.
They do wonderful monthly dances and give back to the dance community.
This is a wonderful ballroom dance organization that does great work in the community.
I am a competitive ballroom dancer and I so love this organization, I am on the board of directors.
