Programs: Pine medical center, dba essentia health sandstone, is organized and operated exclusively for charitable, scientific, and educational purposes. More specifically, essentia health sandstone is created and organized to own, maintain and operate, directly or indirectly, and to assist and coordinate the activities of, facilities for health care, education, care for the aged, and social services, including charitable care to persons unable to pay. Essentia health sandstone has a 9-bed critical access hospital serving central pine county. The hospital offers emergency care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is a certified level iv trauma center and an acute stroke ready hospital. Essentia health sandstone also has an ambulance, rehabilitation therapy center, surgery suite, and weekend urgent care. Essentia health sandstone employs over 130 full time equivalents. The hospital provided 920 hospital patient days and 10,700 outpatient visits during the fiscal year ended june 30, 2017. During the fiscal year ended june 30, 2017, essentia health sandstone provided the following community benefits: $349,000 in charity care, $733,000 costs in excess of medicaid payments, $3,000 in community services, and $4,000 in health profession education.
