Mission: Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) are everyday community volunteers who stand up and speak out to help children who have experienced abuse and neglect. Our CASAs advocate for children in the Piedmont Judicial Circuit (Barrow, Jackson, and Banks Counties). Our goal is to train and support enough citizen-volunteers to have CASAs provided for every child, so all children in our foster care system might have someone in their corner to advocate for their best interests in court and in their community. We train our CASAs in a one night a week training course for 6 weeks on how to gather information about their child’s case and then put that information into a court report. These court reports are given to the Juvenile Judge and are a critical piece of information used to determine the outcomes of the child. As you can see, this makes the role of a CASA vital in good outcomes for these children. CASA’s are the ONE person in the courtroom who’s sole interest is the best interests of the child.
