Mission: Pittsburgh Irish and Classical Theatre, Inc. (PICT) founded in 1996, is a company that has garnered national and international acclaim through its commitment to producing theatre of substance and artistic merit. PICT Theatre presents plays that represent the classic and Irish traditions. PICT invites people to examine classical drama and its connections to our world today. PICT has invested in our community, promoted this region and provided employment to theatrical artists, technicians and artisans. PICT demonstrates that classical theatre is relevant today, adding human context and meaning to people's lives. By making the works of classical playwrights such as Wilde, Shakespeare, Shaw and Pinter accessible to a diverse audience, PICT has contributed 18 years of Broadway-caliber theatre experiences for an engaged and growing number of patrons.
Results: PICT Classic Theatre is the third largest professional theatre company in the greater Pittsburgh region. PICT was founded a year after the last remaining theatre in Pittsburgh devoted to classical work had closed. As of December 31, 2014, PICT has produced over 80 main stage shows, including 5 world premieres, 7 U.S. premieres, and 40 Pittsburgh premieres. A review of Pittsburgh theatrical achievements over the past few years demonstrates that PICT is a leader among small and mid-sized arts organizations, receiving numerous accolades from local media, national and international organizations. Seven of the last ten Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Performers of the Year (Simon Bradbury, Derdrui Ring, Martin Giles, Scott Ferrara, Sheila McKenna, Douglas Rees, and David Whalen) were honored for significant performances at PICT.
