Programs: Activist awards - photophilanthropys activist awards are granted on an annual basis to individuals demonstrating photographic and activism excellence. The awards for 2014 were as follows:professional photographer $15,000 grand prizeemerging photographer $5,000 grand prizetwo runner-ups and honorable mentions will be announced in each category but will not receive cash prizes. Photophilanthropy emphasizes the important role of high quality documentary photography and visual storytelling as a vehicle to create meaningful impact and social change. We seek images that bring awareness to critical issues but that also offer hope and a solution. This specific approach to social change will be emphasized and considered during judging. In order to be considered for acceptance to the photophilanthropy activist awards, all submissions will initially be reviewed for content and quality of imagery. Photophilanthropy reserves the right to refuse any entry based on quality or content. Once accepted, al photography workshopphotophilanthropy sponsored an expedition to india with a national geographic photographer. The workshop taught participants to focus their camera lens on a local nonprofit creating images for the nonprofit's use while developing skills as a social documentary photographer. The workshop sought to refine photographic techniques, to develop a critical eye and to improve storytelling skills.
