I came to Phoenix Rising in December 2013 as a homeless veteran and left as a homeowner. This program gave me my life back through empowerment, encouragement, support, and making sure I had the tools to get back in society. I became homeless because my ex put me out of our home while suffering with PTSD from my injuries I incurred in Iraq in 2008. I had just retired from the ARMY when this person attempted to destroy my life. When I got the Phoenix Rising I literally came straight there from a mental health facility. Ms. Carla reassured me that one day at a time was all I need and I would get through this rough period of my life and being separated from my kids. The support I was shown was amazing through that journey, they provided me with a caseworker to outline my short term and long term goals and having case management on a monthly basis. Through this support I found veteran organizations like WWP and Operation HomeFront to assist me. Today, I walked out of Phoenix Rising a homeowner and a peer mentor to other veterans to support them through their own journeys. I appreciate everything they did for me to include all the staff and would highly recommended this program receive the funding needed to keep it's door open to homeless women.
